Transmigrated Farmgirl's Scheme to Get Rich - Chapter 249
Adding Cold Water to Good Tea
Today, Xiuying hadn’t gone to town and just took her son to the kitchen to make a meal. Seeing Mo Feng come in, Xiuying wondered, “Why did you come back? Isn’t there a large pot of stewed meat in the back courtyard?”
“I don’t want to eat it, is there anything at home?”
Xiuying pointed at the pot in the kitchen. “I just made dumpling soup.”
Mo Feng looked inside the basket hanging from the rafters, which was empty. “How can we not even have steamed buns?”
He had just finished speaking when Mo Yan and Mo Ling entered from outside, each holding two freshly-steamed buns in their hands.
“Why have you two come back?”
Mo Ling replied, “I’d rather come back here to eat mother’s side dishes, than eat the stewed meat contaminated by their saliva.”
It turns out that those people were just permanently next to that pot of stewed meat, specifically picking out the best cuts of meat. When Xiuying heard that, she couldn’t help but say, “That family is famous for being willing to eat but not willing to work, and they don’t find it shameful, either.”
Mo Ling went to fetch a few side dishes, and the three of them ate that alongside the steamed buns. Mo Yan asked, “Sis, you’ve said before that they don’t get to eat meat normally, so will their stomachs be able to handle eating so much at once?”
Mo Feng angrily said, “They’ll definitely get diarrhoea when they get back home. Let’s hope it kills them.”
Mo Yan stood up to boil water, and Xiuying said, “There’s a pot of boiled water over there. It’s enough for you to drink, and I’ll boil more later.”
“No, I’m boiling some water to make some tea for our cousins. It’s good for digestion.”
Mo Feng and Xiuying didn’t understand, but Xiuying smiled and said, “Don’t mind her, just watch and see!”
After boiling the water, Mo Yan went inside the house to fetch a teapot, and poured the water inside. A refreshing fragrance emanated from inside the teapot, and Xiuying said, “Such good tea! It’s so fragrant.”
Mo Yan replied, “It’s just jasmine tea, fragrant but not expensive.”
Mo Feng said, “We still shouldn’t let them drink it.”
“This pot of tea is just for them, and we’ll have another pot for the people handling this event.”
Mo Yan then placed the teapot to one side, and fetched another teapot to make another pot of tea.
After seeing that the tea in the first teapot had finished brewing, Mo Yan went to the water reservoir to get half a scoop of water, slowly pouring it into the first teapot. “This way, it won’t be too hot or too cold. It’s guaranteed that they’ll drink to their hearts’ content.”
Mo Feng laughed, “By drinking tea mixed with cold water, they’d have to go a round or two on the toilet even if they didn’t eat any meat. With how much meat they’ve eaten, who knows how long they’ll be stuck there.”
Everyone present teased her for being a prankster, and Mo Yan placed the two teapots on a tray. “Brother, this glorious mission shall be left to you, don’t mess it up.”
“Don’t worry!”
Mo Feng took the tray from the back courtyard, and when he saw those people still eating as soon as he entered, he said, “Cousins, I know that you’ve eaten a lot of greasy food today, so specifically made some high-quality tea for you to help with that.”
Those people had just gotten thirsty, and as soon as they heard there was tea, they instantly rushed over to drink. After reaching out to touch the two pots of tea, one pot was scalding hot while the other’s temperature was just right. How could they care enough to think more about this, and instantly drank from the teapot which wasn’t scalding.
In the flash of an eye, the entire teapot was drained dry by them, and Mo Feng handed the remaining pot of tea to the housewives managing the affairs and the bearded old men making the paper decorations.
After realising that he hadn’t gotten food for his aunt yet, Mo Feng pick up a bowl, went to the pot to scoop up half a bowl of vegetables, and grabbed a steamed bun before entering the house.
After roughly ten minutes, he heard someone say from the courtyard, “Brother, hurry up! I can’t hold it in anymore!” It seemed like that pot of tea had done its job.
His aunt asked, “What’s happened to them? Why did they get diarrhoea after eating your family’s food, was it unhygienic?”
Mo Feng replied, “How would it be? Everyone else in the courtyard ate it as well, and so did you, so why are all of you fine?”
Mrs. Liang said contemptuously, “They didn’t have any oil in their stomachs, and after eating so much meat in one go, it’d be strange if they didn’t have diarrhoea.”
Mo Yan’s aunt opened her mouth, but didn’t know what to say, finally mumbling out, “Anyways, they only got diarrhoea from eating your family’s food, you need to pay for them to see the doctor.”
Mrs. Liang retorted, “They were the ones who ate the meat. No one invited them to eat it. It just so happens that the weather in early summer is incredibly hot, and they might be able to cool down after a bout of diarrhoea. There’s no need to see a doctor.”
“What if these were your children instead!”
“They’re lucky that they aren’t, because if they were my children, I would’ve slapped them a long time ago. Ever since they were little, I’ve taught them that even if they were to starve to death, they had to eat with dignity, and couldn’t lose me face when they went outside!”
“Who do you think you are? You’ve already divorced Zenian, but you’ve still come to take care of the Mo family’s matters.”
Mrs. Liang stood up, brushing off the dust on her clothes. “Who would be willing to handle the affairs here? If Mo Zenian didn’t beg me, I wouldn’t even have come today.”
Mo Zenian cried out, “Both of you stop it, what kind of etiquette is it to argue in front of mother’s spirit! In the past, I had wronged Yanfen, and now that we’ve remarried, she’s naturally the female head of the household.”
That shrew went out to check on her children. Mo Ling and Mo Yan came back, and the family looked at each other and grinned in front of the old woman’s altar.
The old woman was buried at night, and the funeral carried on for five days. Her funeral was much larger than second grandma’s. Everyone in the village gave money for her afterlife, and the people carrying the coffin changed several times on the short road to the cemetery.
After everything could be considered said and done, Mo Ling and Mo Yan didn’t want to stay for a moment longer, and immediately rushed back to town. Mo Ling was concerned about Zao’er, while Mo Yan was concerned about her business.
The storefronts were still fine, and something had happened at the workshop. According the Chuzi, the workshop received the mission of making winter clothing for the soldiers at the border. Because too much cloth was needed, Chi Jie personally returned to the Upper Valley to import more fabric, and asked Mo Yan to help collect cotton.
There was still over a month before the new batch of cotton would be collected. In the past, the local cotton would usually be exported to Yi City or the Upper Valley. It’d be sold to make cotton blankets or sent to textile shops.
If they wanted to buy sufficient high-quality cotton, they’d have to do it as soon as possible. As long as the price was suitable, who wouldn’t go for the closer option, since they wouldn’t need to incur a transportation fee to sell it.
Mo Yan went back home on horseback, and as she rode, she made a mental note of how many acres of cotton fields were in the neighbouring villages.
At night, she asked Mo Ling, “Sis, how much cotton can be procured from a hectare of cotton fields?”
“Five hundred kilograms or so.”
They’d have to wait for Chi Jie to return before figuring out how much cotton would actually be needed.
After five days had passed, Chi Jie still hadn’t returned. Who knew if he had been locked up at home to get married.
After another three days passed, there was still no sign of Chi Jie. Mo Yan decided that if he didn’t return tomorrow, she’d personally go to the Upper Valley to find him.
The next day, she rode her horse and slowly travelled along the main road, hoping to spot Chi Jie’s carriage. After riding for ten kilometres, she still hadn’t seen up, so just directly went all the way to the Upper Valley.
She rode her horse to the Upper Valley, and sought out Chi Jie’s family’s textiles factory after entering the city. After eavesdropping, she learnt that Chi Jie had actually been trapped at home by his mother. He was being forced to marry a girl, and apparently the marriage was today.
Mo Yan didn’t care about whether he got married or not, what she cared about was what would happen to the workshop now that he was trapped there.
After asking the textile factory’s manager the address of the Chi family, Mo Yan immediately rushed over. It’s unnecessary to mention that the Chi manor was prestigious, but it had also been decorated to the nines, making it seem even more luxurious.
Mo Yan dismounted outside the door, tying her horse to the hitching post outside. When the doormen came over to ask who she was looking for, Mo Yan asked, “Is your family’s second young master getting married today? I’m here to congratulate him.”
“Miss, do you have an invitation?”
“I’m a friend of your young master, and I’m from Qianshui Town. You can just go in and tell him about me.”
“Young miss, I’m sorry, but our mistress has told us not to let anyone from Qianshui Town enter.”
She must’ve been afraid someone would take Chi Jie afraid. His mother definitely didn’t intend on letting him leave, so what to do?
P.S. Mo Yan is truly the most heartless of all time. Thanks for reading!
