~End of chapter 32

Not two days after, her concubine mother began her labor in pain.

Xi Xian was sitting outside. She still remembered that day in her past life. Her palms turned cold and sweaty, and the person was sitting, in a daze, in front of a daughter’s wall.

The moon was silent outside. It was unknown where her father was wandering at this time. She saw the people in the delivery room coming out with fabrics, and copper basins full of blood-colored water. In the moonlight, it looked strange, beyond belief.

Chapter 33

(12.3)

Xi Xian’s complexion turned pale as she sat dumbfounded, while her concubine mother’s voice got weaker and weaker each time, and in the end, she seemed to have heard her calling “Xian Xian”.

Xi Xian clutched the corner of her clothes tightly, as she watched the curtains swaying leisurely, but no one came out again, and there was a dead silence all around.

In the dim atmosphere, someone hurriedly came to tell her to retire and ordered a maidservant to escort her back and change the deep-pink dress she was wearing on her body. Xi Xian stubbornly refused to leave, and shrunk by the wall like a quail, her eyes were full of tears, her throat was sour as she choked, unable to even speak half a word, her lips just kept trembling, withering, spiritless.

She remembered her mother when she was a child, holding her in the courtyard, singing folk songs of her hometown to her, with a fragrant body, pointing to the flannel-like night sky, counting the stars for her.

Her mother told the little Xi Xian that one day, she would also go up there, and protect and bless her from above, always watching over her.

Xi Xian began to cry, hugged her mother’s shoulders, and told her mother with a pouting mouth that she didn’t want her mother to go up there.

Later, when they entered the Xi’s residence, her mother did not get to live even one good day, and she was not even allowed to call her “mother” anymore.

Her mother also endured those days with patience, enduring all the malice coming from concubine Wang and Xi Yao, while stubbornly teaching her to be a kind and tolerant person.

On that day, when the morning light fell on her shoulders, it was unrealistically warm like frost. She slowly began to believe that her concubine mother was dead, and her little brother with whom she had blood ties, was also dead. All dead.

Her concubine mother was born from a peasant family. Her family sold her in order to pay back her brother’s gambling debts.

Back then, her concubine mother was as young a girl as Xi Xian was now, sitting on the shabby mule cart, watching the dim lights of the farmhouse in the distance getting farther and farther away, with patched, wrinkled clothes on her body. She slowly lowered her head, knowing in her heart that she would never go back there.

Later, her concubine mother was bought, and then changed hands, before being gifted to her father as an outside mistress, without any freedom, she was forced to follow the flow, living without any luxury. She just wanted to live well and not be sold again.

But she became the talk of the women during tea, when they were not being disdainful, or ridiculing her, there was some extra pity, but they were all saying that she was filthy, saying she was a low life.

Her concubine mother no longer went out, but those who poured foul excrements in front of the small courtyard where they were living, let the children sing nasty songs outside their courtyard, they even went as far as to say that the daughter she gave birth to, could only ever become a concubine.

Her concubine mother did not do anything wrong, and Xi Xian did not do anything wrong either, but they heard every vicious curse that existed at each turn.

Therefore, Xi Xian did not dare to ask for true love, in this world, only a man with an unyielding and upright temperament was worth relying on.

This life was different, her concubine mother’s labor was very smooth, it was not a difficult birth, there were not many blood-stained copper basins, and at dawn, Xi Xian heard the baby’s cry.

Xi Xian’s face finally revealed a smile, the first one since she was reborn, it was a light one but coming from the bottom of her heart. It seemed that the purpose of her rebirth finally was appearing in her heart, and her stiff heart was slowly relieved.

It was not revenge, it was not to make anyone cry in pain and regret, but to make her close relatives happy, so that she could have peace of mind.

Xi Xian felt that she should thank her legitimate sister, no matter what disagreement there was between them, at least her legitimate sister had invited the best doctor to support the pregnancy of her concubine mother.

Xi Xian didn’t know why her legitimate sister had not done so in her past life.

In her past life, her legitimate sister was indifferent and did not take them seriously, but Xi Xian did not blame her for this, because this was originally their own business.

But today, her legitimate sister still didn’t see her, Xi Xian didn’t feel angry about it, and just instructed Qing Yu to wait for her sister to return, to tell her that she had to talk to her.

At night, the city of Chang’an was under strict martial law, Xi Xian didn’t know what had happened, so she only dared to instruct the maids to not raise their voice, in order not to disturb her concubine mother’s rest, while she went out, wearing a cloak.

Her legitimate sister still didn’t see her. Qing Yu told her, if she was afraid, she could go to her third sister Xi Yan.

As Xi Yan was cutting the wick of the candle, and lifting the bed curtain, taking off her embroidered shoes, she saw her sixth sister Xian Xian, standing in place, with a helpless face, seemingly a little pale and weak, with a look in her eyes as if she had lost her spirit.

Xi Yan didn’t know what happened, so she stepped forward and held Xi Xian’s hand, as her eyebrows frowned slightly: “Why is your hand so cold? You’re not wearing warm clothes either.” So, she hurriedly pulled her inside the room.
