[Vol. 4] Chapter 19: A World of Illusions
Human encirclement?
Violet exchanged a glance with Edwina, but the latter just shook her head in confusion, apparently not understanding what it meant either.
Nevertheless, from these fragments of words, Violet could already infer many things.
For example, something must have been happening in the restricted area that Edwina passed through last night.
It was highly likely that the Demon Suppression City was undertaking some action against monsters. Coupled with the situation of the city-wide search for demons this morning, the general cause and effect could be inferred.
Furthermore, this butterfly calling itself Lord Tiyelu probably mistook their group for monsters, which wasn’t entirely unfounded.
Violet herself was of the divine race, Xiao Guang was a dragon, Leila and Rene were winged-race with white wings, and Theresa had a quarter of tree spirit bloodline. Even Edwina, although the three major divine lineage families of the Holy Empire were human, after being blessed by the gods, they had transcended the level of humanity due to their special bloodlines.
However, was the judgment criterion “as long as the other party is not of the human race, they are considered one of us” a bit too naive and presumptuous?
“So, Lord Tiyelu, how did you happen to find us at a critical moment and rescue us from danger?”
In order to appease this childish butterfly and obtain as much information as possible, Violet could only try to speak in a pleasing manner. After all, since Lord Tiyelu had kindly “saved” them, the priestess couldn’t resort to harsh interrogation methods.
Indeed, although this kind of praise is cliché, it clearly works for Tiyelu. The little butterfly immediately fluttered its silver wings proudly.
“Hmph, isn’t it because Lord Tiyelu has foresight? When I came back today, I happened to see a group of aggressive humans rushing over here. I knew for sure that trouble was brewing again. Feeling a bit uneasy, I secretly followed them to observe, so I could rescue you in time. Hmph!”
So it was merely a fortunate coincidence…
Originally, I thought it was just following the trail, but I didn’t expect to directly catch such a big fish. This little butterfly, seemingly foolish, holds a respectable position among the monsters. I wonder if…
“So, Lord Tiyelu, where are the other companions now? Could you take us to meet them?”
Miss Butterfly turned her small antennae, seemingly evaluating Violet with a smile that resembled someone selling kidnapped children. After a while, she leisurely responded.
“Although you are not human, you are not one of the candidates to rescue the little princess, so don’t get involved in this matter. Although I don’t know why that woman is mobilizing people to catch you, but after you have finally escaped with your life, go home quickly after you go out. Lord Tiyelu will not always happen to be nearby.”
Ah… So they haven’t reached that level of foolishness yet.
Violet felt slightly disappointed.
She could sense the determination in Tiyelu’s words. In this matter, no matter how she persuaded, Miss Butterfly wouldn’t budge.
Although it was the other party’s misguided attempt at rescuing, the priestess couldn’t resort to violence or coercion against someone who had shown goodwill.
As for the “little princess” in Tiyelu’s need for rescue, although not entirely certain, judging from cause and effect, it’s highly likely to be the mythological infant of the Moon Shadow royal family.
It seems these monsters haven’t found that special infant yet, so there’s no need to rush to establish connections forcibly. It’s better to start from the human side.
“Speaking of which, how come you, this little girl, can…”
“Hmm?”
Midway through the sentence, Miss Butterfly inexplicably shut her mouth, let out a forced “hmph.”
“Alright, alright! Lord Tiyelu still has matters to attend to, can’t waste time with you youngsters. The sanctuary here will automatically lift in a while, so fend for yourselves!”
With that said, the silver butterfly’s figure gradually dissipated, leaving the misty mountain behind. It seemed she could freely move between this independent dimension and the real world.
Or perhaps, the one appearing before Violet and the others was merely a special projection.
To Violet’s perception, the latter possibility seemed more likely, which was one of the reasons she didn’t insist on keeping Tiyelu around.
After the little butterfly left, Edwina and others, who had been observing her exchange with Violet, approached. Edwina gestured towards the stone path ahead with some eagerness.
“Miss Violet, since we still have time, shall we…?”
Edwina naturally meant taking the opportunity to explore the mountain peak known as the sanctuary. She had been wandering here for a long time, to no avail. Now with a stronger ally, she naturally wanted to give it another try.
However, the priestess saw much more clearly than she did.
After mastering the use of SP, Violet had gained a considerable understanding of the special ability systems in this world.
As early as when she was conversing with Tiyelu just now, she realized that this independent dimension was locked, and the key was the silver butterfly who claimed to be the guardian of the sanctuary.
Without Tiyelu’s cooperation, this place would just be an inescapable mountain for outsiders.
Still, as the saying goes, although Violet is not incapable of forcibly finding and breaking through those blockades, doing so would likely result in the destruction of valuable items inside, rendering it meaningless.
If there weren’t something to rely on, why would Tiyelu casually bring in unfamiliar individuals?
“Let’s just find a place to rest and wait for now. We’ll deal with anything once we’re out.”
Just as Tiyelu had said, not long after her departure, the misty mountain scenery before them underwent a series of changes. When clarity was restored, they found themselves back at the headquarters of the Black Knights Mercenary Group.
It was exactly where they were surrounded by Lan’s troops, with even their positions unchanged. However, all the forces belonging to the Demon Suppression City had already left. Clearly, just like Edwina’s experience, the time spent in the mountains was equivalent to or even faster than the outside world’s flow.
Violet, noticing this, furrowed her brow.
Was this characteristic too similar to that of a divine realm?
After all, her pet space also worked like this. No matter how long one stayed inside, upon exiting, they would always return to the initial entry point. Violet had also seen similar abilities to control the flow of time in the pseudo-divine realm created by Minerva.
Moreover, during their rest earlier, Leila had mentioned again to Violet about their powers being significantly suppressed in the mountains. Perhaps the only ones unaffected were the priestess and the little dragon girl.
This also aligned with Violet’s impression of the effects of a divine realm.
But the problem is… could there really be such a small divine realm? Could it be that this is just a fragment or imitation of a divine realm?
Such doubts would probably only be resolved when they encountered Tiyelu again in the future. Since both parties had the same goal, their paths were bound to intersect once more.
With Mr. Side-Swept Bangs and Lester not nearby, and with no mercenaries around, it seemed they all believed Violet and the others had left directly. This teleportation trick was quite effective for deceiving people, but unfortunately, if the actual effect were known, it wouldn’t be as useful.
The mercenaries were numerous and varied, and Violet didn’t intend to burden Uncle Lester, who was already helping them wholeheartedly, with unnecessary trouble. After discreetly confirming that they were safe, she left with a few girls. There would be time to catch up later.
Next, it was time to make a decision. At this point, they were undoubtedly being hunted all over the city, and staying in a hotel like before was unlikely.
If they still wanted to intervene in the affairs here, Violet had several options before her.
First: Declare her relationship with Her Majesty the Queen, or use force to confront the Lord of the city, who might be the mastermind behind everything, and coerce them into lifting the wanted order.
This method was straightforward and easy to achieve, but they didn’t yet have a deep enough understanding of the events. If the city’s lord wasn’t the real planner, haphazardly resorting to violence might startle the snake, leading to further chaos, and eventually forcing Violet to use even stronger force.
The whole mess with the “Light Worship Cult” in the Sky City still had the priestess’s head spinning.
Second: Continue evading the Demon Suppression City’s pursuit, investigate the various behind-the-scenes aspects of this event in secret, and then take action when the opportunity arises.
This is a relatively cautious approach, but Violet doesn’t like to hide and seek, and they still lack a good breakthrough. Normal investigation would obviously be quite laborious or troublesome.
Third: directly deploy SP or even a divine realm on a large scale, regardless of consequences, and forcibly find the Moon Shadow clan infant.
This is the simplest method, but Violet believes it’s not necessary to go to such extremes at the moment. Aside from the potential enormous upheaval it would cause, more importantly, they’re here to enjoy themselves, not to fulfill some task’s requirements. Violet doesn’t feel a sense of duty to solve the problem either, her interference in this matter was simply because the priestess thought it would be interesting.
If the means are put before the ends, it won’t be enjoyable.
Wait a minute, what was the initial reason for their falling out with those soldiers…
Right, that female officer, who seemed to call herself Lan Tulls, Tulls… and that weapon that’s very similar to something from the game…
Hmm, now that’s intriguing.
