[Vol. 5] Chapter 313: The Programmer’s — Power!
After a pause, Minchen continued.
“As for why I ended up in Sacchino City, it was actually a coincidence. Due to some personal biases, Nicholas insisted on getting the Master’s approval before he was willing to learn the sword techniques I taught him.”
“So, I took him to visit the Wind Blade Sword Saint who resides in the Austre Empire. Although the Sword Saint himself wasn’t there, we still got the approval of his senior disciple, who manages the dojo in his absence. It was just as we were returning when we ran into that incident.”
“Hmm, I thought it was just some strange quest issued by the panel…”
The priestess pondered for a moment, then couldn’t help but tease.
“By the way, you guys sure know how to leave a legacy… Xiao Shuai is one thing, but Minchen, how many girls have you gotten involved with since you came here?”
“That bamboo, Awen! She’s your kid too, right? It’s bamboo!! Unbelievable!! You even did ‘that’ kind of thing with a bamboo!! I didn’t know before that bamboo could even do that. In some sense, you’re pretty impressive. I’m curious about what other unique creatures you have children with.”
“Hey, spill the beans, how many more are there?”
“Uh… ahem, ahem!”
Noticing the disapproving and scrutinizing look from the lady beside him, Minchen, with a strong desire to survive, quickly cleared his throat several times, swiftly changing the topic and raising his hand to point at the tall, domed mechanical structure just ahead.
“Look! We’re… we’re here!”
“You really are afraid of her, huh…”
Seeing the protagonist getting caught off guard again, the priestess smirked, shaking her head. However, she wasn’t mean enough to keep teasing him about it. She followed Minchen’s gesture and turned her gaze toward the front.
It was the largest and most magnificent building in the dungeon, and judging by the guide puppet stopping at the edge, it was clear that this was the so-called [Divine Network] core, the mysterious location of the “final form.”
The guide puppet quickly entered a long access code on the silver door, which exuded a strong sense of technology. The door then opened like an automatic sliding door, revealing the modern, high-tech scene inside.
This place… could perhaps be described as a “large-scale war command center”.
At least a thousand puppets were seated at command platforms equipped with projection screens, operating panels at high speed yet in an orderly manner. The platforms were arranged in rows, and the rapid tapping sound echoed throughout the vast space, like a grand concert. The sight was so impressive that it was hard not to feel a sense of awe at such a spectacular scene.
“What is this?”
Hearing the question from the black-haired girl, the guide puppet immediately responded without hesitation.
“Detected a question within the authorized scope. Answer: The Divine Network is a large-scale computational device built around the [Divine Network Final Form Unit 0] as its core, supplemented by 3279 Divine Network Series individuals. The upper half of the central hub of [Dungeon No. 00001] is responsible for interfacing with each Divine Network Series individual, exchanging data signals, and being unifiedly coordinated by the [Divine Network Final Form Unit 0].”
“Oh…”
Although it sounded somewhat complicated and abstract, Violet, with her memories from Earth, quickly understood what the guide puppet meant.
“Divine Network” — as the name suggests, it’s a network, naturally connected by individual points.
Having had experience with the underground facility in the Holy Spirit Trail, it was easy for her to deduce the truth after seeing all of this.
Much like the Holy Spirit Trail, there were definitely more than one such underground facility in this world. The 3279 Divine Network Series units mentioned by the guide puppet likely represented the total number of “points”, similar to the puppets that sat on mechanical thrones, connected by numerous data cables and surrounding equipment.
And here…
Every instrument in this hall might correspond to one of the puppets. They are scattered across various corners of the world, dwelling deep underground or in other secret places that are difficult for ordinary people to reach. Together, they form the [Divine Network] as individual nodes.
The data and powers from around the world are gathered through them and brought into [Dungeon No. 00001] beneath this holy hall, where they are coordinated by [Divine Network Final Model 0]…
The priestess once again turned her head, but this time, her gaze was directed at the golden-haired girl, Loknisa Cecilia, who only appeared to be in her youthful prime.
“So this is the true principle behind faith-based magic, right? You’ve known all of this… Who else is aware, besides you?”
The once Judgment Saintess, who had protected her family and the Holy Empire for over three hundred years, nodded respectfully and replied.
“Currently, the ones who know are the head of the Summerfield family, Saintess Yuna Summerfield, and the head of the Lambert family, Pope August Lambert.”
…As expected.
In other words, the real secrets and inner workings of the Holy Empire are still in the hands of the three divine descendant heirs. They are not unaware of the issues now at hand, which have already strayed far from the original path. They either don’t want to change, or cannot change, and are merely following the current path, swept along by the tide of history.
It was clear that Loknisa was in such a situation, which is why when Yuna saw the true “Divine Miracle,” she was so emotional and conflicted, saying that the current Holy Empire no longer deserved to be saved or seen…
If the current state of the Holy Empire is considered the “old system”, then Loknisa and the Pope, August Lambert are likely the conservative faction. While Yuna Summerfield… is likely the reformist.
But now, it seems that her plan is nearing its end.
The priestess swept her gaze across the room, but did not find the target she had hoped for.
“Where is the Final Model 0?”
Before the guide puppet could speak, Minchen proactively responded to the black-haired girl’s inquiry.
“Follow me, I’ll take you to her. This model of magical puppet doesn’t have the permission to enter the core of the Divine Network.”
As expected, the guide, whose face always maintained an unchanging “smile,” nodded as if triggered by certain keywords.
“Detected that the target has arrived at the designated location. Guidance task completed. [Guide 00037] will return to standby mode. Thank you for your cooperation. Goodbye.”
After speaking, she turned and left the building without looking back, quickly disappearing at the end of the street.
The young man in plain clothes shrugged helplessly.
“There’s no helping it, puppet are like that. When I first arrived, it was pretty much the same, and I had to figure things out on my own for a while. They only follow the rules. Come on, Model 0 is below us.”
Under the man’s lead, the three of them left the guide puppet and continued down the main path of the “Large Command Center”.
The continuous clacking sounds of intense typing never ceased. Although it was a bit noisy, what Violet cared about more were the puppet and what they were working on.
But when she looked at the screen in front of one puppet girl, she found it filled with rows of dense numbers, symbols, and jumbled characters that made no sense, rapidly scrolling downward.
This puppet girl’s job seemed to be to stare at the screen, filtering through the information, occasionally deleting some content or adding equally meaningless characters before or after certain sections.
“Eh…”
After just a few glances, Violet decisively gave up on investigating further.
Programmers are really impressive.
