[Vol. 6] Chapter 12: A Thousand Years of Extreme Yin, the Night of the Seven Stars
“Boom! Boom! Boom!!!”
It was clearly the intertwining of flames, yet within the obscured situation, a loud, explosive rumbling echoed across the area.
It seemed that Bai’er didn’t actually intend to use her sword to strike the fire. After delivering that clever blow, she immediately withdrew, leaping around like a nimble cat, rescuing a few frail women and children who had fallen to the ground amidst the chaos and were about to be trampled.
When she reappeared, her heroic figure had already returned to the side of the noble young woman, who had been standing beside the village head, Zeng Xianzhi, earlier, and was now preparing to assist in evacuating the crowd.
“You… you are…?”
“You are the village head here?”
“Uh.”
Although the noble young woman’s tone didn’t come across as arrogant or superior, there was still a subtle authority in her demeanor, likely developed from her long-standing position of power. Zeng Xianzhi instinctively bowed, performing an awkward but respectful gesture that he hadn’t shown to Violet earlier, and spoke quickly.
“I am Zeng Xianzhi, the village head of Zengjia Village. May I ask who you two ladies are…?”
After confirming the identity of the young woman, she nodded.
“The midnight hour is approaching. There is no time for pleasantries. You must immediately guide the villagers to safety and distribute these talismans, one for each person. If any villagers behave strangely or attempt to harm others, place the talisman directly on their forehead. Do you understand?”
Seeing the noble young woman seemingly perform a magic trick, pulling a large stack of white talismans from her sleeve and handing them over with precision, Zeng Xianzhi glanced once more at the central square, still reverberating with intense explosions. He hesitated for a moment.
“Who exactly are you…?”
“Go now. This is the critical moment.”
The noble young woman signaled with a glance, and Bai’er immediately understood, stepping forward to wave something in front of Zeng Xianzhi’s face. The latter was visibly startled, then immediately became respectful.
“Yes, sir! I will go immediately!”
Seeing the village head turn and rush toward the still chaotic crowd, the noble young woman and Bai’er finally focused their attention on the ghostly flame wrapped in golden-red solar fire.
“The midnight hour is approaching, and the once-in-a-thousand-years celestial phenomenon of the [Seven Stars Alignment] is about to occur. I never expected this remote mountain village to become the extreme point of Yin energy, giving birth to an [Evil Flame Spirit King]. If it weren’t for the [Yin-Yang Division]’s prior divination, predicting that something would happen here, the consequences would have been unimaginable.”
Seven Stars Alignment?
Violet, who had been enjoying the spectacle, was momentarily stunned upon hearing this and instinctively looked up at the sky.
At that moment, she realized that in the starry night sky, which should have been moonless, seven extraordinarily bright stars had appeared. These seven stars were roughly a quarter the size of the full moon that could be seen during the third month in another continent, and they were scattered across the sky, slowly rotating in a specific pattern.
What was even more astonishing, and perhaps even eerie, was that the colors of these seven stars were each different.
They displayed the colors of the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. Though their light was not as bright as the full moon, it was still enough to cast a strange, shimmering veil across the land beneath.
And it was under this light…
That the ghostly green flame, trapped inside by the solar fire, suddenly erupted!
“Whhhoooaa!!!”
A sharp, childlike wail rose violently from the ghost flame as it twisted and spiraled upward after dispelling the sunfire.
While to Violet, it merely seemed to be a noisy disturbance, and the two mysterious women only furrowed their brows without reacting too strongly, the villagers, who were scrambling to escape under Zeng Xianzhi’s orders, immediately began covering their ears, as if hearing some kind of otherworldly wailing. The white talismans, which had been handed to them by the village head, glowed faintly, seemingly offering some form of protection.
But there were still a dozen or so villagers, too far away for Zeng Xianzhi to reach in time with the talismans, who suddenly cried out in pain and collapsed. Their bodies were soon engulfed in the eerie, green ghostly flames, threatening to consume them completely.
“Go!”
At the critical moment, the noblewoman let out a sharp command. Her sleeve fluttered, and over ten white talismans flew out, precisely sticking to the heads of each villager who was being enveloped by the ghost flames, villagers Zeng Xianzhi had no time to save.
It was as if a bucket of cold water had been poured over the raging ghost flames. They immediately shrank and extinguished. The surrounding villagers quickly carried away their unconscious companions, who had been burned but had no external wounds, and fled from the center of the battleground.
“Bai’er!”
“Yes!”
The noblewoman raised her hand again, and three more talismans flew out with a swoosh. Two of them stuck to the sword held by Bai’er, imbuing it with light and flames, while the last one landed on the back of Bai’er’s hand.
It seemed that some kind of power was released, assisting Bai’er in once again facing the ghostly green fire, engaging in a fierce battle alone.
‘Hmm… It seems like there’s no need to worry about this side. They’re quite reliable, after all.’
Violet shifted her gaze away from the ghost fire and turned her attention elsewhere.
Though the sudden fire and the two women’s combat techniques were interesting, they weren’t enough to truly surprise the priestess.
Honestly, she was more intrigued by the so-called [Seven Stars Alignment] in the sky and the mysterious “person” who chose this moment to cultivate the ghost fire, attempting to conduct a living sacrifice.
Leaving this to the two women should be enough. Now, it’s time to meet him.
Walking down the village path, lit by the eerie glow of the Seven Stars, the white-robed girl approached the group of villagers who had just found a place to take refuge, now gathered together and looking somewhat uneasy.
Soon, she found the target she was looking for.
The girl approached him from behind, lifting her cloak as she stood on tiptoe and tapped his broad shoulder, making a sound.
“Hey.”
“Ah! A ghost!!”
Zeng Zhuang screamed, startling the other villagers who quickly turned to look at him. Even Zeng Xianzhi, who was standing nearby and deep in thought, jumped in alarm and hurriedly grabbed a few talismans, rushing over. This caused the priestess, who was also startled, to show a look of helplessness.
“First you’re a fairy, then you’re a ghost… you’re really going too far, aren’t you?”
“Huh… huh?”
Realizing who the voice belonged to, Zeng Zhuang quickly turned around, his eyes landing on the petite figure of the black-haired girl. He showed an expression of genuine, unforced surprise and joy.
“Fairy? Didn’t Village Chief say you left our village for something? Why are you here now…?”
Suddenly, as if realizing something, he exclaimed loudly!
“Oh! I get it! You’re like those two adults, here to exorcise demons and subdue evil spirits, right!?”
Violet facepalmed, looking helpless.
“You really are dense, no wonder you were targeted… but in a sense, you’re not wrong.”
Violet turned her gaze to the Village Chief, who had just rushed over, his expression equally surprised but with a hint of caution.
“V-Vi… uh, Miss Vilet, what are you…”
“Who is Miss Vilet…? Never mind, don’t blame me for showing up uninvited. But your village is indeed special, and I think Village Chief has finally noticed that, right?”
“Alright, let’s skip the pleasantries. It’s time for the real troublemaker to make their entrance and meet everyone.”
