[Vol. 6] Chapter 129: Interference, Sparks Fly
Seeing Shangguan Hong’s troubled gaze and the expressions of the other [Shocking God Sect] disciples who had gathered around, Mu, the teacher, paused for a moment, then sighed and spoke.
“From my perspective, the most appropriate solution would be to use the fact that the opponent saved someone as an excuse to call off the match and settle things here. But I can tell by the looks on your faces that you probably don’t intend to back down.”
“Well, it’s understandable. You’re young and full of spirit. Plus, each of you carries unique skills and traditions, and you believe you have many hidden strengths as young geniuses, right?”
“In the past, you’ve all challenged opponents from other realms, defeating older, more experienced foes. To suddenly be beaten twice in a row by someone your age, with no experience of a fight, I’m sure you’re all upset, thinking it’s just luck on the opponent’s part or that you didn’t give it your all.”
“I understand that much.”
After thinking for a moment, Mu continued.
“It’s not ideal for Shangguan Hong to step in, as you said. The age gap between you and the opponent is too large. Even if you defeat them after wearing them down through two rounds, it wouldn’t be a fair win. If you lose, it would be a devastating blow to our [Shocking God Sect]’s reputation. As for the current plan…”
Mu turned his gaze to the only disciple among the group with black hair and black eyes, a young girl with her long hair tied in a simple fishtail braid. While her appearance and figure were above average, she was otherwise quite unremarkable and didn’t draw much attention.
“Yanzi, you’re in the middle of the third generation in terms of age, and you’re the only disciple whose overall strength comes close to Shangguan Hong’s. You should step up to restore the Sect’s honor.”
“I’m not asking you to defeat all three of them, but just to win one match to avoid a complete loss. Aside from the abilities we’ve already discussed, you’re allowed to use all your hidden skills in this duel.”
The girl known as Yanzi furrowed her brow slightly. Although she appeared to be only around sixteen or seventeen years old, her posture and demeanor were unusually composed and steady. She didn’t simply follow her teacher’s instructions but instead questioned him.
“But, Teacher Mu, you should know that I’m not good at direct combat. Many of my real hidden skills are lethal moves, and while that would be fine in a life-or-death battle, this is just a sparring match. Is it really necessary to go that far?”
Mu, with a deep look, gazed at her for a moment.
“Are you really not good at it? Yanzi, you are the most composed disciple of this generation. Not only is your talent exceptional, but you also have your own ideas, wisdom, and are great at keeping your secrets. The abilities you’ve shown so far, are they really all of your hidden cards?”
Yanzi frowned again but didn’t speak. She simply waited for him to continue.
“In the [Ancient Spirit Realm], powerful beings are as numerous as clouds. Talented people aren’t limited to just a few of you. No matter what kind of talent you have or how high you might reach in the future, the undeniable fact is that you haven’t fully grown yet. You and your team still lack the necessary coordination.”
“Though the outcome of this sparring match is unexpected, it’s still a rare opportunity. Soon, we’ll be heading to the [Endless Wasteland Sea], and there, even I might not be able to protect all of you.”
“I hope you can show your true strength in this battle, so that everyone can better understand each other and unite as one. That way, we can improve our chances of survival on the dangerous journey ahead… What do you think?”
“……”
After a moment of silence, Yanzi shook her head.
“I don’t mean to hide anything from everyone… but… alright, if Teacher Mu thinks this is the best approach, I’ll give it a try. But honestly, the opponent probably hasn’t fully shown…”
Before she could finish, a loud, thunderous sound of hooves suddenly rang out from the main road!
“Boom boom boom boom boom!!!!”
Everyone turned toward the noise and saw a large group of heavily armored cavalry, their horses also clad in tough armor.
There were thousands of them, their figures racing down the main road like a black cloud descending upon the city. Even from a distance, their presence made it hard to breathe and filled people with fear.
Despite their overwhelming numbers, their formation remained perfectly organized as they galloped, showing no signs of confusion. It was clear they were an elite, well-trained force.
Soon, whispers began to spread through the crowd.
“That’s the [Black Scaled Army], right?”
“Yeah, the elite force of the [Ink Sect]. Why would they be here? Are they after some powerful bandits?”
“Well, I’ve heard that recently the Holy Sect and the Five Great Protectors have been moving around a lot, seems like they’re making big moves, arresting and clearing out some rebellious elements. Could it be related?”
“Who knows… Anyway, it has nothing to do with us ordinary folk.”
With the unexpected disturbance, Hen quickly stopped focusing on the insignificant sparring match. She packed up her silver shuttle and hurried back to join Violet and the others.
The black-armored cavalry was clearly heading straight toward them.
Sure enough, within moments, the well-trained black-armored soldiers had surrounded the tea house by the road. A few customers, seeing the threatening approach, tried to leave quickly to avoid trouble, but they were swiftly surrounded by the [Black Scaled Army], their sharp spears forcing them back to where they had been.
Soon, under the heavy guard of the [Black Scaled Army], a well-armored general, clearly of high rank, stepped into the tea house yard. He removed his helmet and coldly scanned the crowd before booming out a question.
“What’s going on here? A public disturbance? Such boldness! Who is the owner of this establishment?!”
Seeing the threat in the general’s tone, a short, plump man dressed in fine clothes quickly ran out from inside the tea house, wiping the sweat from his brow as he hurried to the general’s side.
“General, I… I am the owner of this tea house. We aren’t causing any trouble. It’s just that the guests from both sects happened to clash and decided to have a friendly spar here in our humble place… You know, these things happen quite often in the Eastern Kingdom. Everyone just wants to keep it peaceful,” the plump man stammered, trying to explain.
“A friendly spar?” The black-armored general eyed him suspiciously, then glanced over at Violet and the others from the [Shocking God Sect]. A sarcastic smile spread across his face as he responded.”
A friendly spar that sounds like thunder and even shoots blinding white light into the sky? It was so bright that it scared our [Black Scaled Army] cavalry’s horses several miles away? Seems like both sides have some impressive strength.”
“Uh… haha, maybe there was just a little accident, that’s all. Everyone here can vouch for us, General, we had no intention of causing any trouble…” the man stuttered nervously.
“Hmph.” The general coldly snorted, ignoring him. He walked straight to the center of the area, his eyes scanning the crowd of onlookers.
“Those uninvolved, step back three paces!”
The crowd froze in surprise and quickly began backing away, leaving only a few figures standing clearly apart from the rest.
These were, of course, Violet and her group, along with the [Shocking God Sect] members.
The general glanced at the two groups, totaling barely more than ten people, then lazily waved his hand.
“Take all these troublemakers down!”
“Yes, General!”
Before the soldiers could step forward to apprehend Violet and the [Shocking God Sect] disciples, and before the priestess could react, a sharp shout rang out from the crowd. It was the [Shocking God Sect] disciple, Shangguan Hong, whose fierce aura immediately froze the [Black Scaled Army] soldiers in their tracks, leaving them stunned and unsure of what to do.
The black-armored general seemed taken aback, but quickly narrowed his eyes, his tone turning cold and filled with threat.
“You… still want to resist arrest? In the Eastern Kingdom, openly defying the [Black Scaled Army] is the same as rebellion. You better think carefully about the consequences, rebels!”
