[Vol. 6] Chapter 15: Hen, I Am Here
“[Radiance of the Holy Light]” [1]
For a brief moment, the black-haired girl hesitated, weighing the potential consequences of her actions. But soon, she decided to follow her instincts.
This was her true response to Zeng Xianzhi’s gift of the [Spirit Veil Quest for Immortality]. It was also an experiment, and Violet’s answer to the one who had sent her here, [Hen].
Light surged skyward, then cascaded back down.
“BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!”
Immense crimson-gold pillars of light descended like falling stars, enveloping Zengjia Village and the surrounding land and mountains for dozens of kilometers.
The pure, sacred light instantly dispelled all evil and cold within its range. Its brilliance outshone even the once-in-a-millennium moon and the radiant Seven Stars, as if a divine protector had descended to guard the area. No malice could endure, and all demons were forced to retreat.
Among those purified was [Hidden Fog].
The moment the sacred radiance descended, the entity that manifested through some form of magical spell, was obliterated, leaving not even a trace. It didn’t even have the chance to utter a single curse before vanishing.
The same fate befell the [Evil Flame Spirit King] in the village square, locked in battle with Bai’er.
It was supposed to revel in the sacrificial ritual and be greatly empowered by the moon’s energy. Instead, the overwhelming radiance reduced it to barely a third of its original size. Fighting under such oppressive conditions sealed its inevitable doom.
As Violet gradually retracted her senses, which had been probing her surroundings, she pretended not to notice the astonished gazes fixed on her. Dismissing the [Light Protection] that shimmered around her, she turned her eyes elsewhere.
[Radiance of the Holy Light] was a large-scale, ninth-tier purification spell. Whether its purifying effects were perfect or not was debatable, but one thing was certain. It was incredibly bright.
This brilliance was why the priestess, on a sudden whim, had decided it was the perfect response to the current situation.
Violet had initially worried that close exposure to such high-level magic might inadvertently turn Zeng Xianzhi and the others into “devout followers of the [Light Worshipper Church].” However, after observing them for a while, she noticed that they remained completely normal, showing no signs of their minds being polluted by an influx of information.
This was a pleasant surprise, but why was it the case?
What surprised the priestess even more was that despite being immersed in such an intense environment of light-element magic, the sinister energy stirring within the villagers continued unabated. In fact, it grew even stronger, causing the glowing white talismans to flicker violently, as if they might extinguish at any moment.
Violet quickly realized the reason.
The seeds of dark energy within the villagers had already been activated. While the purification spell could eliminate external traces of malevolence in their surroundings, it couldn’t directly eradicate the evil that emanated from within.
These villagers had become hosts for the sinister force, unlike [Hidden Fog] or Zeng Zhuang, who were merely vessels for external malevolence. Without the white talismans acting as a barrier to isolate their auras, the radiance of the purification spell might have identified them as targets to be cleansed outright.
In other words, eliminating external threats wasn’t enough.
If this had been the Violet who had just crossed over from her game world, she might have been stumped by such a situation. She might have resorted to using even higher-level spells to brute-force a solution, potentially causing all sorts of complications afterward.
But the current Violet was no longer that inexperienced.
She closed her eyes slightly, and her SP once again transformed into an intangible yet palpable net that swept across the area.
Through a perspective beyond ordinary sight, she saw an entirely different reality—a purer world of elemental and spiritual forces.
Even under the overwhelming brilliance of the [Radiance of the Holy Light], faint motes of light still drifted down from the heavens, accompanied by the serene glow of the moonlight.
These particles filled every corner of the world, like the atoms forming the foundation of all things. Yet, the closer they came to the ground, the more their “colors” darkened, until they were eventually dispersed by the sacred light.
In that moment, Violet understood something profound.
The full moon and the power brought by the alignment of the Seven Stars were, at their core, pure, attribute-less energy. It wasn’t the energy itself that needed purification. It was the external forces influencing and corrupting it, transforming it into dark energy and malevolence.
In other words, the real problem lay with the land itself.
An idea flashed through Violet’s mind. She mobilized the spiritual energy transformed from her SP, enveloping each of the villagers from Zengjia Village, those individuals emitting far denser dark energy than the light points she had previously seen.
Soon, her divine will gathered around her, forming a vortex. With absolute strength, she forcefully drew out the evil and demonic energy that had already taken shape within the villagers’ bodies.
“Puff, puff, puff, puff, puff, puff, puff, puff, puff!!!”
Almost immediately, the white talismans that had been used to seal away the dark energy within the villagers began to ignite into fire, burning away completely.
This was the only outcome the talismans could achieve under the overwhelming divine power.
The storm of divine will forcefully seized and gathered the enormous energy that was supposed to become a sacrifice for a nearby group of ghost flames. The intense sacred aura in the air purified the malevolent energy instantly, returning it to its original pure state.
The invisible storm swept through the divine light, only to quickly settle again.
When Violet opened her eyes once more, the villagers, who were completely unaware of high-dimensional powers, still wore expressions of confusion, shock at the celestial light phenomenon, and anxiety over the destruction of the talismans. They had no idea they were no longer in danger.
“Hah…”
Violet raised her staff, letting the divine light of the [Radiance of the Holy Light] dissipate.
With that, everything was settled.
Without explaining or slowly clarifying anything, and without even a wave of her hand to the simple villagers she had just met, the priestess turned and walked away, without a shred of hesitation.
The time of the hour had passed. As Violet spread her wings and ascended into the sky again, the silver moon had vanished without a trace, leaving only the seven stars following their unchanged trajectory, rising to their peak before beginning to wane.
Though she had only just arrived in this land a little over a day ago, according to the local calendar, it was likely already the year 1000 of the Four Saints Era. Since she hadn’t been able to complete the life sacrifice at the point of ultimate yin, the plan of that misty figure was essentially impossible to carry out.
Though what had been destroyed was probably just its avatar, and the so-called “great era” couldn’t possibly be limited to just this level, Violet didn’t particularly mind. If they crossed paths again in the future, she’d assess the situation then.
Hovering in the sky for a moment, the priestess directed her gaze toward the dark green flame in the center of the village, which was gradually extinguishing. After a brief moment of thought, she flew off toward the distance.
A few minutes later, Violet landed again on the cliff where she had been passing time earlier, eating sunflower seeds. To her surprise, a gray-haired, plain-dressed young woman was already standing there, waiting for her.
The young woman looked at the black-haired girl folding her white wings, her silver-blue eyes meeting hers, and then she made a polite bow with both hands, smiling gently.
“Thank you, senior, for your righteous intervention in saving the lives of the villagers of my spirit kingdom.”
Violet swept her gaze over the simple yet noble-looking young woman, who radiated an air of mystery, and couldn’t help but ask with curiosity.
“What about your companion? Why didn’t she come with you?”
The young woman smiled gracefully.
“Bai’er still needs to take care of some follow-up matters to prevent the resurgence of evil spirits. She’ll join us a bit later. I hope senior can forgive the delay.”
“I see. You’re quite bold, aren’t you? I thought you’d be the more cautious type…”
After all, the relationship between this woman and Bai’er was clearly that of a master and bodyguard, and judging by their previous battle with the ghost flames, it seemed the former wasn’t very skilled in close combat, more likely resembling a mage.
So, from a conventional perspective, it was quite dangerous for her to approach a mysterious priestess, especially by herself and so close.
Of course, a person of importance must have their own hidden ways of self-preservation, but that didn’t justify her actions.
Violet guessed that the young woman had realized her capabilities and was trying to show goodwill to form an alliance. This wasn’t the first time Violet had encountered such a situation.
She nodded, not putting on any airs of being a “senior,” nor questioning the other’s appearance. She got straight to the point.
“My name is Violet, and there’s nothing to hide. As you can see, I’m not from this continent.”
“I see.”
The noble young woman smiled lightly again and looked up at the seven stars in the sky that were slowly separating.
“My [Ancient Spirit Realm] is vast and interconnected, with abundant spiritual veins. In the past, we often had visitors from outside this world, and while most came with good intentions, some arrived with motives to plunder or with evil thoughts, which led to many disasters.”
“However, since the Four Saints descended a thousand years ago and quelled the evil, the number of visitors from outside has greatly decreased. I never expected to meet a kind-hearted foreign senior today. It is truly an honor.”
She raised her hand again in a gesture of respect but did not bow.
“I am Ling Feng, and it’s a pleasure to meet you, Senior Violet.”
“You people from the [Ancient Spirit Realm] sure have your own way of speaking…”
The priestess shook her head, skipping over the empty pleasantries.
“Since our intentions align, I’ll speak plainly.”
“From the looks of it, your status in this country should be quite high. I don’t care what your exact position is, but there is some information… I’d like to ask you about, and if necessary, I may seek some assistance.”
“Ah, of course, there will be a fair compensation in return.”
“You can consider this a mutually beneficial partnership. What do you think, Miss Ling Feng?”
At these words, the gray-haired young woman’s smile grew noticeably wider. She nodded, stepped forward, and took Violet’s outstretched hand.
“That is exactly what I hoped for. I wouldn’t dare to ask otherwise.”
