[Vol. 6] Chapter 21: The Medical Immortal
The power of holy light brings forth miracles known as healing.
“This… this, this…?”
The twisted and dislocated bones and muscles began realigning on their own under the radiance, restoring themselves to their original state at a speed visible to the naked eye. The bloodied and mangled hand quickly shed its damaged skin, writhing as it regenerated new tissue.
Murong Yun’s scarred and battered body, under the care of Priestess Iv110, was completely restored to its original state in less than ten seconds. The transformation was so astonishing that it almost felt as though the grievous injuries from moments ago were merely a collective illusion.
However, the tattered white robe he wore, which had not been mended alongside his body, stood as irrefutable proof that everything just witnessed was no fantasy but a miraculous feat born from an incredible healing power.
“The Medical Immortal… The Medical Immortal! Such an otherworldly medical art exists in this world?!”
The white-bearded old healer, whose eyes had earlier reflected impatience and anger, now brimmed with admiration and fervent respect. He could not suppress his excitement as he exclaimed, “In all my years practicing medicine, I have never seen such a technique, capable of reviving the dead and regenerating flesh and bone in an instant! If I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes… I would hardly believe it! Absolutely incredible!”
His awe transformed into utter devotion as he turned to the black-haired girl who had just withdrawn her hands in thought. Without hesitation, he fell to his knees and bowed deeply, his body trembling with excitement.
“I am Wang Yanglin, a disciple of an old bone doctor, begs your pardon, [Immortal], for my earlier disrespect and lack of knowledge.”
“…Huh?”
The priestess instinctively took half a step back.
This old man… wasn’t his change in attitude way too abrupt?
To be fair, she had expected her healing to shock others, but this reaction was far beyond her imagination.
If someone walked in without context, they’d probably think he’d just seen his ancestor leap out of their coffin…
At a loss for how to handle the overly enthusiastic old healer, Miss Violet decided it would be best to simply pretend she hadn’t seen him.
On the other side, Murong Yun, whose arm and all other injuries had just been instantly healed by the priestess, stood up from his chair in astonishment. Instinctively, he clenched his fist, sensing that not only was his strength completely restored, but it also seemed slightly enhanced compared to before.
At this point, how could he not understand what had happened? He immediately cupped his hands and bowed deeply, offering his respect to the petite, black-haired girl.
“Thank you, senior, for bestowing this opportunity upon me. Murong Yun is deeply grateful.”
Hmm… as expected, this guy was much easier to communicate with.
Although Violet still couldn’t fully accept being addressed as “senior”—a term that made her sound old, the mention of an “opportunity” wasn’t entirely wrong.
[Glorious Blessing], though merely a Tier 6 Holy Light spell, wasn’t inherently a healing-focused magic. However, with her boosted attributes, the priestess could easily use it to treat minor injuries like these.
Additionally, the skill provided beneficial enhancements. Much like the [Kiss of Light] a certain holy knight girl once received, it was a one-time spell with permanent effects. While it didn’t significantly increase light affinity or all attributes like [Kiss of Light], it still offered solid bonuses to physical strength and resilience. In Illusory World, it was a vital piece of the “one-time purchase ultimate enhancement package,” particularly suited for martial artists and similar classes.
Honestly, Murong Yun seemed like a decent person, and Violet had a good impression of him. The priestess couldn’t just ruin the latter half of his career as a fighter over a sparring match. This spell was her way of offering some compensation for what happened.
After this incident, all other sparring assessments were naturally suspended. Ling Feng and Bai’er, both wide-eyed with surprise, approached the priestess, while the guards, following the Prefect’s gaze, hurriedly helped the overly excited but utterly ignored white-bearded healer to his feet, restoring order to the scene.
“Weren’t we supposed to keep a low profile…?”
“Ahaha…”
Violet could only manage an awkward laugh in response to Ling Feng’s whispered complaint. But with the Prefect now nearby, she couldn’t exactly offer any further explanations.
In truth, Violet’s original plan was simple, to let Murong Yun throw a few punches, assess how much his martial skills could amplify his attack power, and then casually knock him to the ground to end things.
What she hadn’t expected was that, in trying to intimidate him and force this hesitant guy to go all out, his sudden burst of strength would far exceed her initial estimations.
Somehow, with a physical constitution that was only slightly less than legendary level, Murong Yun managed to leap several levels in combat power. The force he unleashed approached an overwhelming level, triggering the higher-level counterattack threshold of the artifact [Feather Robe Graria].
Had Violet not suppressed it immediately, the counterattack alone would likely have killed Murong Yun on the spot. Even so, the overflow of residual energy still dealt significant damage to him as he struck the artifact directly with his palm, leading to the cascade of events that followed.
Though this was a bit outside her plan, it wasn’t a big deal. Violet hadn’t intended to hide her abilities too much anyway. So, she decided to go with the flow, revealing a portion of her power directly. This way, she could avoid wasting time and effort dealing with trivial issues later.
In hindsight, the result was quite favorable.
After the commotion, the Prefect’s attention naturally shifted to the three women who had regrouped. Upon confirming that Murong Yun was unharmed, he proactively approached Violet, offering her the proper respect as a junior would to a senior.
His stern, square-jawed face softened into a polite, agreeable smile. One that was just warm enough not to feel insincere.
“Greetings to you three. I am Wen Fu, the Prefect of Yangyuan Prefecture. May I ask how I should address you?”
After an exchange of formal but relatively superficial introductions, Wen Fu nodded once again and said,
“A pleasure to meet you all. The abilities you displayed earlier were truly remarkable, this Prefect saw them clearly. There is no need for the sparring to continue. Instead, I invite you to rest inside. Once today’s evaluations are complete, perhaps we can have a more private discussion. What do you think?”
Such official negotiations were exactly the kind of situation Ling Feng excelled at handling. She immediately stepped forward and replied,
“Thank you for your kind offer, Prefect. In that case, we shall gladly accept your hospitality.”
Wen Fu nodded, and a guard quickly approached to lead Violet and her companions toward the inner hall.
“Phew…”
Watching the three women’s figures gradually disappear, Wen Fu let out a small sigh and shook his head with a wry smile.
“Such a small place as Yangyuan City, yet it seems to be teeming with hidden talents. Even experts of this caliber have been drawn here by the news of the Qilin’s appearance. Who knows whether this will bring fortune or calamity.”
Murong Yun, now clad in fresh robes, appeared to have a familiar relationship with the Prefect. He soon spoke in a low voice,
“This Violet senior’s attire and name are somewhat peculiar, and her origins are hard to determine. However, the healing abilities she displayed were upright, balanced, and imbued with a sacred purity. There’s no chance she harbors any malicious intent. I believe she is worthy of a certain degree of trust.”
Wen Fu neither agreed nor disagreed.
“Spells and abilities are, after all, external tools. They cannot fully reveal the essence of a person’s character. Moreover, these three carry an air of distinction, suggesting their backgrounds are anything but ordinary. Still, this recruitment process naturally attracts a mix of individuals. I will find an opportunity to observe them further. Murong, are you able to continue sparring?”
“No problem at all. On the contrary, I feel invigorated, my blood flows strongly, my limbs are light. It’s as if I’ve been reborn. That light from earlier… it was extraordinary.”
“Is that so? Then this healing technique is beyond extraordinary. If it could ever be made widely available…”
The Prefect waved for his aide to continue overseeing the ongoing evaluations and dismissed the guards. However, instead of returning to his seat, he turned to the still visibly shaken and unsteady elderly healer, clasping his hands in a gesture of respect as he inquired:
“Mr. Yanglin, you addressed Miss Vi as an [Immortal] earlier. Was that merely a slip of the tongue, or do you have substantial reason for such a claim?”
The white-bearded elder trembled slightly as he opened his mouth, muttering,
“Immortal… She must be an Immortal…”
His aged eyes gazed upward, as if lost in thought.
“The world knows of four realms for the strong: [Micro-Perception], [Heavenly Might], [Peak Ascension], and [Seeker of Immortality]. Those who reach the Seeker of Immortality realm are seen as the pinnacle, untouchable by ordinary mortals. But this is ignorance.”
“In my younger years, while accompanying my master, the old bone doctor, during a tea conversation with one of his mysterious friends, I learned that cultivation is divided into two paths: the Mortal Path below and the Immortal Path above. Only by surpassing the [Seeker of Immortality] realm and reaching the [Eternal Life] realm, can one truly be called an Immortal Saint.”
“The ‘Eternal Life realm’ is only the beginning of Immortality. Beyond that, it is said there are three higher realms, culminating in the ultimate realm that transcends all four. Unfortunately, these are shrouded in mystery, and even I know nothing more.”
“Breaking through to the Eternal Life realm is as difficult as climbing to the heavens. While [Seeker of Immortality] cultivators are rare across the four nations, they can still be found in any era. True Immortal Saints, however, are extraordinarily rare and can only be encountered by chance, never sought after.”
“It is said that upon reaching this realm, a cultivator gains at least a millennium of life, remaining ageless and undying. This senior wields divine abilities that can turn decay into miracles with a mere gesture, yet she appears as youthful as a maiden in her prime, eerily similar to my master’s mysterious friend. How could this possibly be ordinary?”
“Therefore, I am certain she must be a great [Immortal Saint] of at least the [Eternal Life] realm, likely having cultivated for centuries. Wen Fu, this is no small matter. You must not treat her lightly…”
“Such profound wisdom…” Wen Fu said, bowing deeply. “This junior has learned much from you, Elder.”
