[Vol. 6] Chapter 46: Are You Teaching Me How to Do Things?
“…?” ×4
The moment the Western Saint spoke, not just Violet, but even Ling Feng and Bai’er tilted their heads in confusion. In the distance, Yazi, still bound within the seal, immediately roared in outrage.
[Yuan Qianqiu! You scheming woman, what trickery are you plotting now?! I am a Dragon’s Child, how could I lower myself to serve another?! If such humiliation is the price of my freedom, I would rather risk total destruction in a final struggle!]
“…Could you kindly stay quiet for a moment?”
The red-haired girl glanced back at Yazi, and the sudden surge of her unrestrained, icy authority was so overwhelming that even the ferocious beast flinched. Its scales bristled, and for a brief moment, it actually dared not speak further.
After silencing the restless beast, the Western Saint turned her smile back toward the still-slightly-startled priestess, who, though managing to keep her expression neutral, couldn’t shake the feeling that she was now negotiating with a cunning merchant rather than a revered saint.
“So, what do you think? As long as you’re willing to help, releasing Yazi without damaging the foundational seals here. I can make the decision on its behalf: it will serve by your side as a guardian for one thousand years, bound by contract.”
“Hmm… a thousand years, huh?”
Although the offer was abrupt, Violet quickly began to understand the intentions of the Western Saint, who was temporarily borrowing Yuan Zhi’s body.
From her initial encounter with Yazi, Violet had already learned that the [Seven Stars Evil-Subduing Seal] technique used to suppress it couldn’t fully purge the malevolent energy within. That energy was an innate part of Yazi’s being, its source of power. To eliminate it entirely would strip Yazi of its strength and even end its life.
In other words, the method bestowed by the Divine Fox was only a temporary solution, capable of suppressing the danger but not eradicating it entirely.
It was becoming clear that when the Divine Fox taught Yuan Qianqiu this technique, it never intended for it to solve the problem permanently. Instead, it was a stopgap measure, meant to hold the threat at bay until the prophesied “chosen one” would appear a thousand years later to find a true resolution.
To Yuan Qianqiu, if Violet were willing and capable of resolving the issue, the act would not only save the countless lives in Yangyuan County above but also fulfill her thousand-year pact with Yazi, allowing its release.
As for whether the priestess could fully deal with the malevolent energy within Yazi, even if complete eradication were impossible, having someone strong enough to harness the beast under a technique bestowed by the Divine Fox would significantly reduce the chaos and threat Yazi posed. It was certainly better than leaving it as a ticking time bomb, ready to explode at any moment.
For Violet, having an unparalleled beast like Yazi as a guardian could also be advantageous, as long as she could control it. With many of her trusted allies sealed off from her in the Ancient Spirit Realm, having such a formidable companion would be quite useful in certain situations.
Understanding the intricacies of the matter, Violet nodded in acknowledgment.
“I see. I must admit, this is a mutually beneficial arrangement. It seems I have no reason to refuse…”
Just as the Western Saint’s expression began to relax into a smile, the priestess abruptly changed her tone.
“But I refuse.”
“Wha…?!”
The smile froze on Yuan Qianqiu’s face. For the first time since her appearance, the ever-composed saint looked visibly surprised and even a bit anxious.
“Why? You should have no reason to…”
“Heh, *that* is precisely my reason for refusing.”
Under the equally astonished gazes of Ling Feng and Bai’er, Violet nonchalantly spread her hands.
“You see, I’m the type of person who hates trouble and being forced to do things I don’t want to do. To be honest, if Ling Feng sincerely asked for my help, maybe added a couple of ‘meow meows,’ then while troublesome, I wouldn’t be entirely unwilling to figure this out.”
“But you? I have no personal connection with you, and I owe you nothing. You chose to dangle the promise of benefits to bind me into doing this. Sure, it looks mutually beneficial on the surface, leaving no room for rejection, but to me, it’s just coercion in disguise.”
“You put on an air of respect, but what do you really take me for? Some so-called chosen one? Or just a tool to solve your problem?”
Having been openly mocked to her face, the Western Saint’s expression naturally grew increasingly unpleasant, but the priestess didn’t seem to care.
She pointed to the silent Yazi at the center of the seal, seemingly lost in thought.
“Besides, is this really fair to Yazi? You made a pact with it a thousand years ago. Now that the time has come, you should honor that agreement unconditionally and let it go, not presumptuously extend it into another thousand-year deal on its behalf.”
“But this is for its own good…”
Raising a hand to cut off Yuan Qianqiu’s argument, Violet shook her head.
“I don’t doubt that your intentions may have been for its benefit, but if that’s the case, you should have laid out all the details and the full plan for Yazi a thousand years ago, allowing it to decide for itself. Instead, you waited until now, borrowing a body to resurrect yourself, and have been up to something unknown in the latter half.”
“If it’s forced to sign a contract with me out of desperation, how is that any different from another thousand years of imprisonment?”
Even as she spoke, the red-haired girl opened her mouth as if to offer an explanation.
“You don’t understand. Considering Yazi’s personality…”
“You mean its proud and arrogant nature, right? That if you had told it everything back then, it wouldn’t have obediently gone along with your plan? Then tell me, how is your behavior any different from *deception*? You’re just playing with words.”
“I…”
Faced with Violet’s relentless rebuttal, Yuan Qianqiu was momentarily left speechless.
Instead, the beast itself, which had remained silent and simply listened to their exchange, suddenly let out a deep growl. Unlike anger, this sound seemed to carry an undertone of amusement, spreading its intent outward.
[Interesting, interesting! Well said!]
[Little girl, your words please me greatly! Indeed, that is how it should be. We beings who exist in this world ought to act openly and with clarity, not resort to deceit cloaked in clever words!]
[Yuan Qianqiu is a despicable schemer. I no longer trust her. But you…]
[I shall grant this world another chance.]
The beast raised its massive claw, bound and pierced by chains, extending it forward.
[I am Yazi, second son of the Dragon, descendant of the [Ancestral Dragon]. O destined one… If you truly bear the mantle of destiny, step forward and prove it to me, with your strength, let me see what you’re made of!]
“…Ha.”
Locking eyes with the beast for a moment, Violet glanced at the speechless original Western Saint, who seemed unsure how to respond. After a brief silence, the young woman, now the center of everyone’s attention, smiled.
“Violet, don’t push yourself…”
“It’s fine. Since it’s issued such a direct challenge, evading it now would make me seem like a coward.”
Shaking her head, she gestured for Ling Feng and Bai’er to remain calm. Then, returning the protective talisman in her arms to Ling Feng, Violet tucked away her staff and stepped forward.
A ferocious, chaotic aura surged around her, transforming into a tempest within the crystalline palace as it rushed toward her now that the talisman no longer shielded her.
Yet, she paid it no mind.
Her snowy white robe, adorned with feather-like patterns, shimmered with a radiant glow, transforming into a protective, supple armor that clung closely to her body. The light sheltered her seemingly fragile frame.
The overwhelming malice and primal energy slammed against her like a hurricane striking a boulder or waves crashing against a seawall, but she remained utterly unmoved.
Alone, the black-haired girl parted the storm of wild energy, walking forward slowly and casually, as if strolling through a garden.
The path through the hall seemed both long and short, and before anyone could say anything else, Violet stood before the enormous beast, crouched between the seven pillars.
“Roaaar…”
Its fierce, dark-red slit-pupils locked with her silver-blue gaze, emitting a low growl that carried both anticipation and a hint of excitement. Yet, its massive claw, extended toward her, remained steady.
And so, Violet placed her small, pale hand against the thick fur of its claw.
“Come, show me your true strength.”
