[Vol. 6] Chapter 47: Subduing the Beast
The world tilted and spun.
Violet opened her eyes to behold the towering figure standing proudly amidst an illusory sea of clouds.
[A battle within the mental realm? So you, too, have mastered the use of… SP—no, divine consciousness.]
Yazi had clearly not reached the realm of true god.
Neither it, the Qilin above, nor the Western Saint Yuan Qianqiu had crossed into the realm of true gods. They remained at the level of pseudo gods, a tier below. While their specific abilities might vary, their potential was capped at this level.
For one simple reason: none of them possessed a [Divinity].
Yet, if that were the case, how had Yazi managed to wield this power, something that should only be accessible to those who had surpassed such limits?
Could it be tied to its lineage as a descendant of the [Ancestral Dragon]?
In the realm created by their interwoven spiritual consciousnesses, the beast’s arrogant and overwhelming intent roared to life.
[How fascinating! Your spiritual consciousness is vast as the ocean, the greatest I have ever encountered! But, O destined one, do not think this alone will make me yield. Come, fight me!]
There were no unnecessary words or preambles. As soon as it finished speaking, Yazi opened its massive, blood-red maw and unleashed a torrent of dark, malevolent energy. A colossal beam of destruction aimed straight at the girl.
[ROAR!!!!]
*A battle maniac, through and through.*
With that thought, Violet raised her palm, her hand facing outward.
The roaring black beam, thicker than her entire body, collided with her extended palm. But instead of overwhelming her, it shattered as if meeting an unyielding, indestructible force, splitting apart and careening to either side of her. The energy surged past her, tearing into the distance, but she stood unscathed.
In the real world, she might have hesitated, unsure if her physical body could withstand a direct hit from an attack nearing the peak of demigod.
But this was the realm of the mind. Here, their forms were shaped entirely by their divine consciousness. In this space, the strength of one’s “body” depended solely on the power of their SP.
It was for this reason that Violet could so effortlessly cleave the beam with a simple wave of her hand.
[Yazi, you won’t defeat me with attacks like these. Use your full strength, don’t worry about the consequences.]
[ROAR!!! ROAR!!!!]
Perhaps it was Violet’s lighthearted tone that made the beast feel mocked, or perhaps it was the exhilaration of facing an unprecedentedly powerful foe. Either way, without further response, it charged forward with a furious roar!
The crescent-shaped horn on its head glowed brilliantly, extending nearly half its length further until it became a seemingly indomitable blade of destruction. With unstoppable force, it aimed straight for the chest of the black-haired girl.
[Smack!]
But Violet reacted in an instant. Her hand shot up like lightning, gripping the tip of the horn with even greater speed. The horn’s sharpness flared, yet it failed to harm the seemingly delicate hand in the slightest. Instead, the momentum of Yazi’s full-powered charge was forcibly halted, without her taking even a single step back.
Though her small frame seemed insignificant in front of Yazi, her simple act of standing firm rendered the massive beast unable to advance even an inch.
[I warned you, didn’t I? Conventional attacks are useless. Or perhaps… is this truly the extent of your power, Yazi, one of the nine dragon children?]
[ROAR!!!!!!!!!]
Failing to break free from her grasp, Yazi bellowed in rage. Its long, scythe-like tail suddenly extended, transforming into a chain-like whip that swept toward her with blinding speed.
Violet remained unshaken. With one hand holding the beast’s horn, she raised her other to catch the blade-like tail tip, gripping it firmly in her palm.
Then, she exerted force.
[Roar…?]
The beast’s furious roar suddenly shifted to confusion as its four massive legs left the ground of the mental realm’s cloud-filled expanse. It found itself lifted into the air, suspended like a weightless object.
In that moment, Yazi understood the significance of this scene.
The girl fighting against it actually swung the beast’s long, powerful tail with one hand, as if she were pulling the end of a yo-yo string, and suddenly hurled its massive body into the air!
Then, with a forceful smash, it came crashing down!
[Boom!!!!!!!!!!]
The giant beast, being pulled by its tail, traced a smooth arc through the air before violently slamming into what appeared to be the ethereal cloudscape, causing an earth-shattering explosion.
The clouds stirred, and violent winds surged from the impact point, threatening to tear apart the natural white clouds that had formed in the mental space.
Though this was merely a spiritual body formed from their divine consciousness, the intensity of the fall still caused Yazi to experience an unavoidable shock and dizziness. Before it could recover and reorganize itself, its entire body was lifted once more, with the tail end as the pivot, and sent flying through the air again.
[Boom!!!!!!!!!!!!!]
An even more intense impact followed after the beast flew through its arc.
This is actually kind of fun…
As she grasped on Yazi’s tail, swinging it around like a toy, Violet couldn’t help but think to herself.
This was the spiritual space. As long as she didn’t destroy the core of their spiritual essence, no matter how much she pummeled, there would be no real damage. That’s why Violet felt comfortable and bold in smashing her opponent down.
Honestly, while there was a power gap between her and Yazi, in the outside world, she wouldn’t be able to overpower it in this manner. After all, Violet was just a harmless priestess with few offensive abilities.
But in this direct confrontation using their divine consciousness, with SP as her weapon for a brute-force clash, Violet wasn’t afraid of anyone.
Booms and crashes echoed continuously through the mental space. At first, Yazi seemed enraged by this humiliating defeat and tried to resist using its claws or by firing magical blasts.
However, it quickly realized that all of its efforts were in vain. No matter what form of attack it used, it couldn’t harm the girl at all. Even energy blasts like light beams could be easily swatted away.
The disparity in their divine consciousness strength was simply too vast, almost like a toddler facing off against a fully armored knight. If Violet had been aiming for a quick victory instead of showcasing her strength, the outcome would have likely been decided already.
[Boom!!!!!!!]
Once again, Yazi was swung through the clouds by its tail. But this time, its massive body dissolved into light particles, leaving only its consciousness still lingering in the mental space.
[That’s enough.]
[Oh? Does that mean you’re ready for a second round? Come on, you should still have plenty of energy left.]
The priestess lightly rubbed her hands together, a bit expectantly, but Yazi only spoke in a deep voice.
[No need… You are very strong, much stronger than I had anticipated. This overwhelming, superior divine consciousness… Only the existence that created us—the [Ancestral Dragon] and the [Supreme Sacred Fox God], such inconceivable beings—could possibly be on par with you. Truly, as the person of destiny, I yield to you.]
[I… admit defeat.]
[Ah, well…]
With a slight shake of her head, the priestess quickly detached herself from the thrill of the battle and looked at the beast, which was slowly re-forming but much smaller than before.
[So, what does that mean?]
[Hmph, I, Yazi, keep my word. I am not a schemer like Yuan Qianqiu. Since I’ve proven my strength, I am willing to follow our agreement and submit to you, to be ridden.]
The beast, now fully reformed, stopped roaring. Instead, it moved forward and knelt before the girl, lowering its head, which bore a crescent-shaped horn.
[Here, in this place of spiritual convergence, I sign the pact. From today onward, Yazi, the second child of the dragon, shall be your mount. O person of destiny, lead me toward new glory… and let us create the future together.]
[Mm, now that it’s come to this, there’s not much more to say.]
The girl nodded slightly and gently placed her hand on the beast’s head.
A glow shone between them, and everything fell into place effortlessly.
[The contract… my lord…]
