[Vol. 6] Chapter 64: Coach, I Want to Learn This!
“This was indeed Meng Rui’s doing, but considering her good intentions, I thought it caused little harm to those entering the dream. It also helped everyone in the valley alleviate their loneliness, so I didn’t step in to stop her…” Qilan shook her head helplessly.
“…I never expected that today it would summon such remarkable individuals.”
“Walking by the river often, how can you not get your feet wet?”
The Music Saint did not comment on the priestess’s remark. After briefly locking eyes with the two young women seated at the table, she thought for a moment and said:
“Although Music Fairy Valley has remained hidden from the world, it harbors no malice. If you believe this matter harms the world and have come to resolve it, Qilan is willing to take responsibility for Meng Rui’s actions, offer compensation, and promise to never hold the [Music Fairy Flower Show] again. Would that suffice?”
After a glance at Ling Feng, who remained silent, Violet turned her attention back to the Music Saint, dressed in elegant robes.
“Your hair is black. Was everyone’s hair this color a thousand years ago?”
“…?”
Qilan seemed momentarily taken aback by the sudden shift in topic before finally responding.
“In my time, black hair was indeed the norm. Most humans, except for the demons, had hair like this. Miss Violet also has very pure black hair. Could it be that you are a great power left over from a thousand years ago?”
“Ahem… that’s not a question I can answer.”
“Eh?”
To avoid the hole she had just dug for herself, Violet quickly changed the subject.
“By the way, if Yazi and I hadn’t come here today, would you still have made such an offer so readily?”
As expected, the Music Saint’s expression grew serious when the conversation turned to critical matters. She shook her head with a helpless smile.
“You have a sharp insight…”
She didn’t deny it, nodding frankly instead.
“Whether in the past or the present, the Ancient Spirit Realm has always respected strength. If it were merely ordinary dreamers, they wouldn’t have been able to reach this place or make me reconsider my stance. After all, ever since Meng Rui created this dream, the joy and laughter in the valley have increased significantly.”
“As the current master of Music Fairy Valley, I naturally have to consider the lives here. To put it bluntly, I might even be biased toward my family. Sending the two ladies to the [Valley of Ten Directions] earlier was also an attempt to make them retreat. But since Yazi and the master of Yazi have personally come, of course, the situation is different.”
“You certainly dare to speak your mind…”
The Music Saint smiled.
“If one cannot maintain a mind as clear as a still mirror, music will inevitably carry impurities. Even if it displeases you, I must speak my true thoughts.”
Violet did not respond directly. Instead, she glanced at Yazi beside her, as if seeking its opinion. However, the latter remained silent, offering no comment.
Perhaps it believed that at such a critical moment, the decision should be made by Violet as its master, rather than influenced by concerns over the steed’s pride.
Recalling Murong Yun’s earlier behavior, Violet thought for a moment before asking one final question:
“Is Qiuniu’s remains still here? Can you take me to see them?”
Hearing this, Qilan showed a hint of surprise but soon closed her eyes slightly in quiet reflection.
“Everything of his has already transformed into the very essence of this Music Fairy Valley, protecting our peace. Without the Beast of Music’s guardianship, this place would not have given birth to countless flower spirits and such beautiful melodies.”
“If you wish to find him, then simply look around at this world.”
…………………………
Violet returned to the ship’s cabin once more.
The fluttering petals that had filled the air had vanished without a trace. The others around her began to open their eyes, as though awakening from a dream. Though they appeared somewhat fatigued, their expressions conveyed more nostalgia and fond recollection than exhaustion.
“Whew, we’re back… Who knows when I’ll see it again next time,” Murong Yun sighed softly, his tone tinged with regret. Seeing Violet turn her head toward him, he offered her a smile.
“So, Miss Violet… what did you think of the [Music Fairy Flower Show]? Was it worth experiencing?”
“It was alright,” she replied.
Violet nodded calmly, quietly retracting the small fist she had almost swung out due to the mistaken form of address. Without explaining much to Murong Yun, she simply turned her gaze toward the stage alongside him.
The white-haired girl, Meng Rui, who had been playing the zither, had already set the instrument aside and was now gently bowing to the audience with a polite smile.
“Thank you all for your enthusiastic support. As the night deepens, this session of the [Music Fairy Flower Show] concludes here. I wish you all sweet dreams tonight, and until we meet again~”
With those words, she offered another small bow and gracefully turned to leave.
“Ah, no matter how many times I come, it always feels like a dream, so mesmerizing,” someone sighed.
“Indeed. It’s a pity that it’s only an illusion of music. If I could see the beauty of the valley in reality, I would truly die without regret,” another remarked.
“While the scenery is enchanting, I think the music within the valley is the pinnacle of its wonders. Miss Meng Rui’s zither skills are already at the level of a grandmaster, yet even she falls slightly short of the sublime melodies we heard. The title [Music Fairy] is truly fitting. I wonder who could be behind such extraordinary music.”
“Come, let’s go. Who knows when the next [Music Fairy Flower Show] will be held again. Remember to keep the secrets of the valley. We mustn’t let vulgar individuals ruin this pure land.”
“Exactly, exactly…”
As the event concluded, the passengers aboard the [Music Fairy Ship] dispersed, some chatting, others reminiscing, their conversations filled with awe and reflection. Soon, the large cabin grew increasingly quiet and empty.
“Violet.”
Not far away, Ling Feng and her companion appeared in Violet’s view and quickly approached her.
With the dream dissolved, they too had returned to reality along with the others. However, a certain unlucky soul, locked away from start to finish, still seemed utterly confused about the situation.
“Yes, let’s go meet her,” Violet said.
Though Murong Yun appeared puzzled by this sudden decision, Violet offered no explanation nor stopped him from tagging along. Soon, the four of them moved along the corridor to the backstage area, arriving at what seemed to be a resting lounge.
There, a serene girl in white and pink sat quietly, as though waiting for them.
Her zither was placed on the table in front of her, its gilded cloud patterns reflecting a faint shimmer under the lamplight. Her smooth, pale fingers glided over the seven strings, producing soft, mournful sounds that seemed to carry a hint of melancholy.
It seemed Meng Rui had already dismissed the attendants and guards in advance, leaving only herself to wait. When she saw Violet and the others arrive, her bright, autumn-like eyes slowly swept over them before she stood and lightly bowed her head.
“Welcome. If not for my teacher’s reminder, I wouldn’t have realized such esteemed guests were aboard the [Music Fairy Ship]. Please, take a seat.”
Violet shook her head.
“No need for all that. I’m just here to look around and confirm a few things. I’ll leave soon. Hosting these dreamscapes must take a lot out of you, so I won’t disturb your rest for long.”
“I see. It seems you’re very considerate, senior~”
“Wait, no! Why does everyone here keep calling me ‘senior’? Just call me Violet, got it?”
“Alright, Violet~”
Meng Rui chuckled softly and nodded, her gaze resting on the black-haired girl with a faint trace of curiosity.
Violet didn’t dwell on this, skipping the pleasantries and going straight to the point.
“Earlier in the dream, Qilan mentioned that as an apology, you’d fulfill one of my requests. Do you agree with that?”
Meng Rui nodded again, maintaining her elegant and polite smile.
“My teacher’s words are my own. While I don’t possess extraordinary power or endless wealth, and I don’t believe the [Music Fairy Ship] to be some unforgivable existence, since Teacher Qilan has instructed it, I’ll do my best to comply. Whatever your request may be, please say it.”
Although she spoke lightly, there was a noticeable weight in Meng Rui’s autumn-like eyes, and the other three present held their breath, seemingly curious about what unusual request this unconventional Violet would make this time.
After a moment of silence, during which Violet appeared to be considering and hesitating, she finally spoke.
“It’s simple. After this whole thing, I found myself a bit interested in musical instruments. For the rest of my time on the ship, if you’re free, could you teach me how to play the zither?”
“Uh… huh?”
