[Vol. 6] Chapter 94: Surrounding the Sage
After leaving only the Light Elemental Spirit to protect the Peach Blossom Guardians just in case, Violet and the others continued deeper into the Peach Blossom Forest.
Soon, everything in front of them became clear.
They reached the peak platform above the sea of clouds after climbing the final gentle slope.
There were no more peach trees blocking their view. The misty white clouds and clear fog swirled in the air, blending the place with the sky, making it feel like they were in a fairyland.
The platform, only about a hundred meters in diameter, was mostly occupied by a clear spiritual spring and pool in the center. Water from the spring flowed slowly down the mountain. In the center of the spring stood a small, delicate stone pavilion.
Inside the pavilion, a young woman with pink hair, dressed in a luxurious palace gown, was sitting alone. She was lowering her head, playing with the chess pieces in her hand, making the strange array disc used for the spring glow with faint silver light. Surrounding the spring, however, a group of people in blue robes had completely surrounded the area.
Hiding behind the entrance at the edge of the platform, Violet and the others observed the scene.
“It looks like we arrived just in time.”
Xiao Kong’s expression was slightly more relaxed, but she didn’t hurry to reveal their presence.
“It seems the enemy has only just broken through to this point. Let’s see how Tao Mu plans to handle this situation.”
“Hmm… seems like we’re missing someone crucial. Could it be that Spirit Maiden is stuck and ran off at a critical moment?”
Violet softly muttered this, clearly a little frustrated. Just as Ling Feng was about to respond, a clear and gentle male voice echoed from the distant stone pavilion.
“Well then, Sage, have you made your decision?”
The speaker stepped forward, and his figure was revealed from this angle, coming into view for Violet and the others.
He was very pale.
He was white in the literal sense.
White clothes, white pants, white hair, white eyebrows, and his skin was as pale and delicate as a newborn baby’s. He carried a large medicine box on his shoulder and had a face that seemed harmless, with features that seemed to belong to someone innocent and kind. Standing there, he emitted no overwhelming aura of power, and at first glance, he didn’t give any sense of intimidation.
Despite the whiteness, his hair wasn’t pure white, it was pale, almost aged, like that of someone in their twilight years. However, disregarding the strange complexion, this young man appeared to be no older than twenty, which was puzzling.
The young woman in the palace gown inside the stone pavilion didn’t stand up. She simply looked at him and spoke with a cold tone.
“[Apothecary]… The rat of the [Seven Heavenly Demon Lords] really dares to appear before me? Aren’t you afraid I’ll personally strike you down here? Or do you think I can’t do it?”
The white-haired young man nodded slightly, his expression equally calm.
“Peach Blossom Sage, your reputation has spread for a thousand years. Your magical powers have reached their peak, and there are few in the entire [Ancient Spirit Realm] who can compare with you. Naturally, I wouldn’t be so arrogant as to challenge you.”
“We are here only to find one person. However, with Peach Blossom Peak’s strict defenses and the Sage not seeing outsiders, it’s difficult to visit in the usual way. If we have been rude, we hope the Sage will forgive us.”
“Hmph…”
Peach Blossom Sage smiled lightly, then placed a piece on the array, causing ripples of faint light.
“To make an intrusion sound so honorable, you shouldn’t be called ‘[Apothecary],’ but perhaps something like ‘Trickster’ would suit you better.”
“The truth is, I know why you’re here. Yes, the Western Origin Spirit Maiden is a guest of mine, but I’m curious why you’re bothering her.”
It seemed that the [Apothecary] didn’t pick up on the sharp sarcasm, as his smile remained unchanged.
“We just wish to ask Her Holiness the Spirit Maiden for a small favor. As the Sage knows, with the coming of the Great Era, many things in the [Ancient Spirit Realm] have begun to change.”
“People like us, who are of a similar nature, have gathered together to achieve something, and we have found the Spirit Maiden, who was chosen by the [Ancient Spirit Realm]. As the destined guide of the fated ones, she should be walking with us on this matter.”
“However, it seems that Her Holiness has some misunderstandings about us. She quietly escaped and came here. We had no choice but to travel a long distance to track her down.”
“Oh… So, you think of yourselves as the destined ones, born to fulfill the fate of the [Ancient Spirit Realm]? You believe this Great Era has descended for your sake?”
The [Apothecary] smiled slightly.
“Who the Great Era is meant for doesn’t matter. What matters is who can seize and control this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Surely, with the Sage’s divine skills and achievements, you must understand this simple truth? Fate is unpredictable, but humans can overcome heaven.”
“Heh, ‘humans can overcome heaven’,” the Peach Blossom Sage sneered, clearly tired of the roundabout probing. Her attitude immediately turned unfriendly.
“[Apothecary], you madman, you’re as disgusting as ever. You even dare to collaborate with trash like those from the [Yokai Controlling Sect]. A filthy alliance like yours has the nerve to talk about defying fate and calling yourselves the children of destiny?”
“Truly, this is the funniest joke I’ve heard in nearly a thousand years!”
“A bunch of insignificant creatures dares to invade my Peach Blossom Peak? Today, not a single one of you will leave here alive!”
“Damn it, there’s no one left but a lone fool still putting on airs! You refuse a toast but accept a beating, brothers, cut her down!”
The Peach Blossom Sage’s formal declaration immediately became the breaking point in the conflict. A loud, fierce roar came from the crowd, and over a dozen blue-clad figures leaped forward, brandishing weapons and charging toward the stone pavilion!
At the same time, from beneath the clear spring by the pavilion, several shadowy figures erupted with a “bang, bang, bang,” launching sharp water arrows at the lone woman inside the pavilion!
“Uncultured little fish, don’t wet my pavilion.”
After casually scolding them, the Peach Blossom Sage raised her hand and moved a piece on the array board.
“Boom, boom, boom, boom!!!”
As if repelled by an invisible wall of air, the water arrows that were shot out suddenly reversed course, and the several Fish Spirits that had just poked their heads out were immediately sent flying like cannonballs, soaring over the edge of the mountain platform and falling into the clouds, disappearing from sight.
“As for you scum, you might as well reincarnate soon.”
The array board moved again.
“Poof, poof, poof, poof, poof, poof, poof, poof, poof, poof!!!”
The dozen or so elite members of the [Yokai Controlling Sect] who had rushed toward the stone pavilion were, along with their weapons, mysteriously torn apart in mid-air. They disintegrated into countless fragments that spread through the sky.
However, their broken bodies and spilled blood didn’t fall into the spiritual spring but were twisted and condensed by some unseen force, ultimately disappearing into a singularity, leaving no trace behind.
From the moment their creatures attacked to the moment the Peach Blossom Sage erased them from existence, it had all taken just a few seconds. Most of that time was spent while the Sage casually spoke.
In reality, all she had done was lightly move two pieces on the array board in front of her.
“Th-This…?”
The group of blue-clad figures exchanged looks, the second wave of attack they had planned to follow up with now frozen in place.
One move, and she had crushed them all.
Clearly, the [Yokai Controlling Sect] hadn’t anticipated the Peach Blossom Sage’s power to be this overwhelming. The process of eliminating these powerful enemies was so effortless, it seemed as trivial as swatting a few mosquitoes. The group was now filled with confusion and panic, unable to suppress their fear.
After all, no normal person is completely unafraid of death. Even the fiercest desperadoes would hesitate when facing certain death, let alone when they hadn’t even begun to comprehend the true extent of the Peach Blossom Sage’s abilities.
Except for… those who are not normal.
