[Vol. 3] Chapter 4: Playing for Keeps

“Before we start the Truth or Dare game, let’s go over the rules,” Austin began.

“Each round consists of two phases, Truth or Dare. If selected, refusing to answer a question or complete a task means you have to drink another glass of beer.”

As she spoke, Austin raised her hand and, in the next moment, the servants appeared, presenting eight giant beer mugs. Once the mugs were arranged, their considerable size became quite conspicuous.

Looking at the mugs, Ifia couldn’t help but twitch her mouth. Even if it was just beer, downing one of these glasses was quite challenging!

Alright, confirmed.

This wasn’t just a game.

It was playing for keeps.

At this moment, Ifia had a strong urge not to join in. Her luck had always been strange. When it was good, it was exceptionally good, but when it was bad, it was remarkably unfortunate. Sensing that she might be in for a streak of bad luck, before she could suggest calling it quits, Austin began to add more rules to the game.

“The person chosen, after completing the task, can only sit on the side and watch, with no chance to participate in the game again until the next round. So, luck is still a factor. If you’re lucky, you might not have to do a single task and become the ultimate winner.”

Hearing Austin’s words, Ifia became even more uneasy. As if sensing Ifia’s thoughts, Austin revealed a sly smile, “To make the game interesting, everyone present has to participate.”

Alright!

Seeing her last chance slipping away, Ifia didn’t want to be the party pooper. Besides, maybe she was just scaring herself. In reality, she had extremely good luck, becoming the lucky player exempt from trials.

“Okay, everyone sit down. Use this bottle as the arbiter of fate.”

“When the bottle’s mouth points at you, you’re chosen, and the person corresponding to the bottom of the bottle can make requests according to the rules.”

The rules for Truth or Dare were quite common, so Austin didn’t dwell on them. She quickly announced the start of the game.

First round.

Truth!

Austin spun the bottle at the center of the table. With everyone’s eyes glued to it, the bottle slowly came to a stop, ultimately pointing its mouth at Andrea Manlo.

With his blonde hair and blue eyes, Andrea, at a young age, had already inherited the title of Count and displayed outstanding personal abilities. He had a great chance of further ascending in the peerage, making him a highly sought-after eligible bachelor in the Dalwa City. Furthermore, he possessed a good moral character, lacked any vices, and unlike other young nobles, he had a pure and artistic demeanor.

In various major bookstores in Dalwa, there were translated books credited to Andrea as the translator, as well as romantic stories and poetry collections authored by him. Who could resist such a high-quality man?

However, Andrea, citing his young age and the need for further experience, declined marriage proposals from other noble families. This decision disappointed many noble young ladies, but they still didn’t give up trying to get close to Andrea, hoping to win over the handsome young “Count”.

Now, as the first person chosen in the game, Andrea smiled slightly and looked at Jessica, awaiting her question. Being a gossip expert in the noble circle, Jessica suppressed the excitement of wanting to rub her hands together and put on a serious appearance, slyly asking, “Count Manlo, may I inquire about your recent romantic status?”

Andrea’s romantic status had always been a focal point of public attention. Unfortunately, he remained tight-lipped, revealing no information and maintaining an air of mystery.

Causing headaches for the noble young ladies of Dalwa City, to the point that it consistently topped the charts in the noble gossip circle, the saying holds true: what you can’t have will always be a cause for commotion, even in the realm of gossip. Now, taking advantage of this opportunity, Jessica had to quickly ask.

Andrea didn’t expect Jessica’s question to be this, causing a momentary pause in his smile. He quickly regained composure, though the question was quite private, he didn’t refuse to answer. However, he made an effort not to look towards Ifia’s direction, giving a wry smile, “Unrequited love just now.”

“!!!”

Well, well!

Jessica thought her question would get a straightforward ‘yes or no.’ The result was unexpectedly beyond her imagination. However, there was no opportunity for further questioning. This left Jessica feeling immensely regretful, wishing she could go back a minute and choose a different question. For example, asking about the failed unrequited love….

Regardless of Jessica’s regrets, the game continued, and Andrea, as an eliminated player, spun the bottle.

As the bottle slowly came to a stop, its mouth pointed at Irene. And at the bottom…

It was Ifia!

Ifia was taken aback for a moment, almost letting out a “wow.” She really didn’t expect her premonition to fail. She turned to Irene, who was nervously looking at her, and after giving it some thought, Ifia asked, “If the person you like has an engagement, what would you do?”

Although the system was reluctant to disclose the original plot, considering that Prince Carloy and Irene were the male and female leads, resolving the verbal engagement between Prince Carloy and Amelia should be a prerequisite for them to be together. As the antagonist’s daughter, Amelia would undoubtedly be an obstacle between the male and female leads.

However, Ifia felt that with her arrival, the plot had already undergone significant changes. At least, Amelia seemed to be ignoring Prince Carloy completely, which was a good thing. Yet, she feared that the plot might change too drastically because of her involvement, making the future development unpredictable.

Just like the fragments of the plot revealed, Prince Carloy had already started scheming to use Irene to reject the engagement. However, at the moment, there were no signs of romantic sparks between them. So, seizing the opportunity to question Irene, Ifia hoped the female lead would remain faithful.

Don’t give up!

Upon hearing Ifia’s question, Irene’s expression became complex, eventually turning into a slightly blushing face. She seemingly glanced at Prince Carloy and then spoke with a determined tone, “I believe true love is priceless. As long as two people love each other, they can overcome any difficulties.”

Irene’s answer was somewhat subtle, but the meaning was clear. The hidden implication was that having an engagement was not a hindrance, and the ultimate winner was still uncertain. It was a response with questionable values, but it made Ifia happy.

Fortunately! The female lead’s original intention remains unchanged! Wishing her and Prince Carloy a smooth relationship without interfering with Amelia!

As for the others present, they were not fools. Therefore, Irene’s glance at Prince Carloy surprised everyone. It seemed that no one had expected Prince Carloy to have a special connection with a common girl. Prince Carloy, on the other hand, maintained a neutral expression, seemingly oblivious to the meaning behind Irene’s words. Playing dumb.

Austin, sitting across from Prince Carloy, had a smile playing on her lips. Her gaze wandered between Prince Carloy, Irene, and Amelia. Those wandering eyes indicated that she was brewing some mischievous ideas. Looks like we’ve got a paparazzi in the making!

Immediately, the third round of the game continued, with Irene spinning the bottle. Whether there was a special connection between the male and female leads or not, after Irene spun the bottle, the mouth of the bottle pointed at Prince Carlo, and the bottom landed on Austin, the chief editor of a news agency.

Upon seeing that it was Austin asking the question, Prince Carlo’s smile seemed to freeze for a moment. It was evident that he was aware of Austin’s prowess. In fact, Austin was indeed formidable, and she played her cards right from the start.

“Prince Carloy, may I ask if you would consider marrying Amelia Barlen?”
