[Vol. 4] Chapter 79: Here Since You’ve Come

“Amelia, are you sure we should go down?”

While Ifia silently stared at the underground ice cave, a piece of broken ice happened to fall from the ice layer below.

There was no sound of it hitting the ground for a long time, making people wonder just how deep this underground ice cave was!

It felt like a passage to hell!!!

Even though Ifia didn’t have acrophobia (fear of heights), at this moment, she felt like she was afraid of heights!

If they accidentally fell, their bodies would probably shatter into eight pieces… Or if the ice cave suddenly collapsed, they would be buried inside.

Either way, it was terrifying!

Thinking about this, Ifia couldn’t help but look at Amelia with bitterness. Although she knew that the purpose of today’s outing was to find magical plants, there was no need to risk their lives for it. Such an exciting adventure wasn’t suitable for lying low!

But outright refusal also seemed a bit inappropriate. After all, they had come all this way.

Receiving Ifia’s gaze, and looking at that cute little face wrinkled into a frown, constantly changing expressions, Amelia couldn’t help but lift the corners of her mouth.

Obviously, the little one was scared, but she wouldn’t admit it.

It’s probably because she’s worried about being labeled as a ‘coward.’ In response, Amelia didn’t playfully tease Ifia with ill intentions but explained gently, “Ifia, don’t worry. It just looks deep, in reality, it’s just an optical illusion.”

“Really?”

Upon hearing Amelia’s comforting words, Ifia’s clear eyes showed a hint of foolishness. It seemed she easily believed it.

“Of course,” she replied, though it was untrue.

In reality, the ice cave was deeper than imagined.

Otherwise, the Misfortune Vine wouldn’t be effective, and all living creatures on the ice surface would meet their demise. The Camus territory would instantly become a deadly place. Therefore, only an extremely deep underground could barely contain it.

However, watching Ifia quietly sigh in relief and pat her chest as if relieved, Amelia felt that sometimes, well-intentioned lies could be better. At least to soothe the little one’s emotions.

“Since that’s the case, let’s go!” Ifia had great trust in Amelia.

So, upon hearing that the ice cave wasn’t too deep, Ifia took a deep breath. The cold air rushed into her nostrils, bringing a bit of stimulation, keeping her brain alert. Amelia wasn’t planning to give up, so what else could Ifia do but accompany her, even if it meant risking her life? After all, she would never admit to being a coward. It was just ice climbing, and she could handle it.

Ifia glanced at the backpack not far away, which contained already prepared climbing ropes and tools. She planned to use them to ensure safety and avoid a sudden fatal fall.

“No need to rush, Ifia. Are you sure you’re ready?”

Just as Ifia was relieved that she had been clever and bought tools during the journey, Amelia appeared behind her, leaning slightly and speaking softly into her ear.

Ifia nodded subconsciously.

Before she could react, Amelia had already reached out and embraced Ifia’s waist. Then, in a swift motion, Amelia led them to leap off the ice layer, displaying a graceful leap that felt like a leap of faith.

However, due to the rapid descent, a loud wind roared in their ears. The strong gusts caused their hair to fly in disarray, intertwining the contrasting black and white colors distinctly.

As Ifia descended from the ice surface, she stared with round, bewildered almond eyes without any change. When her consciousness returned, she finally let out a sharp “ah” in surprise. However, it was just a brief sound, quickly silenced by Amelia, who raised her hand to cover Ifia’s mouth.

Then, she chuckled lightly by Ifia’s ear, saying, “If you’re scared, just close your eyes.”

Although Ifia was being carried down by Amelia and hearing her voice, it quickly helped Ifia relax. However, the now-aware Ifia couldn’t help but feel uneasy. Even if the underground ice cave wasn’t high, without securely fastened safety ropes, a casual jump could lead to…

All these thoughts made Ifia feel like her life was hanging by a thread.

So, instead of insisting on being brave, Ifia chose to close her eyes sincerely.

She wasn’t a coward, she just wasn’t mentally prepared.

Remember, she wasn’t scared, she was just not ready yet!!

Amelia looked down at the small figure in her arms, visibly nervous. Ifia obediently closed her eyes, and her petite body trembled as if a pitiful flower caught in a storm.

This situation made Amelia somewhat helpless. For a demon, this height was nothing significant, even in her current human form. Despite maintaining her human identity, Amelia had already thought of a suitable solution.

With one hand still wrapped around Ifia’s slender waist, the other hand conjured magical energy into a black dagger. Amelia then directly inserted the blade into the ice, cutting a gap in the surface. The sharp edge of the knife slowed down their descent by creating a rift in the ice.

At the same time, Amelia activated the Abyssal Realm, releasing invisible black magic. It swiftly penetrated the gap created by the dagger, killing and devouring the lurking insects inside.

Around magical plants, there often lurked fierce guardians.

If not to prevent humans from becoming alert, she wouldn’t have placed them in such remote locations. As a result, the teams searching for magical plants were few and far between.

Therefore, when Amelia set foot on the Camus territory, she immediately learned about the situation from other demons.

Taking advantage of an obstruction on the way, she made a slight adjustment to her original plan. She quickly retrieved the magical plants hidden in remote areas and distributed them through an auction.

During the auction, she preemptively posted a disclaimer, stating that the auction had nothing to do with the items being sold, serving merely as a transfer station. This way, no matter what happened, it wouldn’t implicate them.

However, magical plants like the Misfortune Vine had a notorious reputation, indicating a significant number of guardians surrounding it.

Just like the small insects being consumed by the black magic at this moment, they liked to lurk within the ice layers. Once a creature fell from the ice surface and was confirmed to be harmless, they would immediately devour it. Even if it were a snow bear that fell, within a few seconds, this group of insects would gnaw it down to a skeleton.

Amelia effortlessly dealt with the first obstacle.

Slowing down the descent also made Ifia realize that something was amiss. When she quickly opened her eyes, she saw Amelia looking quite dashing, hanging with a single arm from the ice layer.

(O_O;)

Excuse me, was this a movie shoot?

Or was this a dream?

Why was Amelia so powerful?

This wasn’t scientific!!!

Before Ifia could express her shock, they had already entered the ice cave.

Amelia first set Ifia down, and as soon as her feet touched the ground again, she quickly sheathed her dagger and jumped down, landing directly in front of Ifia.

Due to the purpose of seeking magical plants today, Amelia didn’t continue wearing a long skirt. Instead, she changed into a very convenient and mobile outfit. Although it sacrificed some elegance and charm, it added several points of handsomeness.

‘Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh.’

Just as Ifia admired Amelia, a noisy and annoying sound erupted, reminiscent of someone rubbing glass with sandpaper, piercing and irritating.

Immediately afterward, a group of silver small fish surged out from various directions of the ice cave, quickly hovering in midair.

On their backs were erected sharp spikes, and with a frantic demeanor, they rushed towards the two.

These were the second guardians of the Misfortune Vine.
