After Being Kidnapped by the Crown Prince - Chapter 73
~End of chapter 72
“Don’t bring fish, nor beef, and don’t make pork elbows too.”
On the other side, looking at the plates that were sent back intact, the cook started trembling, thinking that he had done something wrong which had angered the crown prince.
The maidservant then relayed the words of the crown prince to him.
“What do you mean not right?”
“These dishes are all dishes that His Highness loves to eat.”
The crown prince especially loved spring water fish, why did he suddenly not want it today?
When the little maidservant thought about it, it seemed that these indeed weren’t dishes that the crown prince avoided, and then she suddenly understood, “Maybe the new miss doesn’t like to eat these, you should pay more attention next time.”
“I got it.”
The cook originally didn’t take the crown prince’s new concubine seriously, but now he had to brace himself and cope with it.
The cook made two bowls of chicken noodle soup and asked people to send them over while it was still hot, for the noodles would not taste good anymore if they got cold.
Ming Zhu had a small appetite and never ate much. After eating half a bowl, her stomach felt full, so she put down her chopsticks and didn’t touch them again.
Zhao Zhi disliked her small appetite, it was no wonder she never gained any weight no matter how much he fed her. There wasn’t much meat to touch on her body. Previously, he had finally been able to feed her to a point where she became a bit more mellow and plump, but after locking her up for half a month, she had lost it all again from being tossed and turned.
In the end, his heart couldn’t bear it.
After lunch, seeing that Zhao Zhi had no intention to leave, Ming Zhu was inevitably anxious. Her shining eyes, wide-open, stared straight at him, her beautiful pair of eyes couldn’t hide what was on her mind as she asked with some eagerness, “Don’t you have anything else to do this afternoon?”
Zhao Zhi pondered for a long time, “Yes, I do.”
Ming Zhu thought to herself that it was great.
She thought she was hiding her emotions very well, without knowing that the sudden bright light in her eyes had betrayed her, she gently urged him, “You quickly go to work, don’t delay the important business.”
Zhao Zhi smoothed her slightly messy strands of hair, “Mmh, this afternoon, I’m going to teach you to read and write.”
Ming Zhu froze for a moment and held her fingers in her hands, ill at ease, as she said in a low voice: “I can read.”
She just didn’t get much schooling, but she wasn’t illiterate, or she wouldn’t be able to read those folklore books.
Zhao Zhi’s fingertips could not help but caress her face which, pressed against her skin, felt a little cold. He said, “I know, I am going to teach you to read the classics.”
After Ming Zhu turned ten, the family didn’t invite a female teacher for her or other concubine-born daughters. Only the legitimate daughters from the first branch of the family had the opportunity to follow their older brothers to the academy to study.
Ming Zhu lowered her face, her expression turned somber and she remained silent, as if she was a bit unwilling.
Thinking that she was not happy to study, Zhao Zhi’s face turned frosty, “Studying more is a good thing, so that later if you go to a banquet, you won’t be easily embarrassed.”
Ming Zhu also understood his point. She actually liked to study and write, and also envied talented and brilliant girls. Most probably Zhao Zhi thought that she didn’t much culture, and it wouldn’t be nice if word of it was spread ; or maybe, as he just said, he was afraid that she would make him lose face during banquets, and that was the reason why he wanted to teach her the classics.
Zhao Zhi couldn’t care less whether she was happy or not, he didn’t allow her to argue and held her wrist tightly, dragging her in front of the desk, where he casually took a copy of the Analects. He asked, “Have you read that one?”
Ming Zhu paused for a second, thought about it and then said, “I read half of it.”
She had yet to finish reading the other half when the family stopped her schooling.
Zhao Zhi’s voice was very nice to hear as he whispered in her ear with a soft voice, word by word, explaining to her the meaning of each sentence. He also wasn’t impatient to see results, seeing her look like she didn’t quite catch the meaning (of what he was teaching), he couldn’t help but find her funny.
The sunlight who came in from outside the window pane, beam after beam, fell on her figure, it didn’t make her look more splendid or gorgeous, instead it added some softness and tranquility to her figure.
Zhao Zhi held her waist from behind her. Dominantly embracing her in his arms, he grasped her right hand and taught her to write down what she had learned today.
Ming Zhu’s handwriting really wasn’t very good-looking.
Her handwriting was neat, but there wasn’t any vigor in her strokes, and even less strength.
Looking at the words on the sheet of paper, Zhao Zhi said after a moment of silence, “It’s a little ugly.”
Her handwriting was the one thing Ming Zhu was the least confident about, and being exposed by someone like that, she naturally wouldn’t feel comfortable. She said with some annoyance, “Don’t look at the words I wrote.”
Zhao Zhi grasped the sheet of paper she had written on and raised his arm high to a position out of her reach.
Ming Zhu jumped up in anger to try to grab it back. Her little face turned red and her ears also felt like they were burning.
“You give it back to me, it’s not like I asked you to look at the words I wrote.”
“It’s not like I’m going to take it out and show it to other people.”
Ming Zhu couldn’t take the sheet back from it, and was even panting from exhaustion. Thin and fine beads of sweat rolled down her delicate skin, she was panting hot air while speaking, revealing her cat paws, “Since you like it so much, then you can just take a frame and hang it in the study.”
The corners of Zhao Zhi’s mouth raised slightly and he couldn’t help but let out a light laugh.
