- Chapter 12 - Captain Lin Xie of the Sea Blue Star garrison requests to communicate with you
The next day, Shi Yu was lively and bouncing around again, having earned another twenty federal coins from Lu Dongyan in the meantime. Money came too easily.
She also learned something from a young doctor.
The invasion by unknown species was very sudden, and the means of their invasion were still unclear. However, it was certain they had a stable channel to reach Sea Blue Star.
In just two or three days, the area of Sea Blue Star affected by the invasion rapidly expanded. The Sea Blue Star garrison, initially able to handle large monsters with ease, was gradually forced to stay in shelters.
Communication with space stations outside the planet was impossible from the surface of Sea Blue Star, and it was uncertain whether other planets in the Deep Blue Star system were facing similar situations. There was no way to know how rescue efforts from outside would be implemented.
The brain-computer interface had a signal because the shelter had set up a temporary communication device. However, once out of the shelter, the interface would lose the signal again, turning each shelter into an isolated island.
The situation was dire.
“Let’s do one last check,” Feng Xiao took a small helmet.
Shi Yu obediently put it on, quickly feeling a beam of red light emerge from the helmet, scanning her entire body. Shortly after, a virtual screen popped up above her head, displaying various data about her body.
Feng Xiao was recording in his brain-computer interface but had only made it halfway when a violent shaking suddenly came from the shelter. Shi Yu was too sensitive to such tremors, not waiting to see if Feng Xiao had finished recording before getting up from the bed.
Lu Dongyan on the adjacent bed was equally alert: “What’s happening?”
No sooner had he spoken than another, more intense shake hit, accompanied by loud alarm sounds.
Feng Xiao immediately reacted: “This is bad! It’s very likely that unknown species have started attacking the shelter!”
These days, the activity range of the Sea Blue Star garrison forces kept shrinking. Initially, they could go outside to search for survivors, but in the last day or two, as soon as they went out, they were targeted by those huge monsters and then viciously attacked. Many were even dragged out of their cockpits and eaten.
Shi Yu’s heart cursed silently as the shelter’s loudspeakers suddenly blared: “Attention all shelter inhabitants, the shelter is currently being invaded by unknown species. Anyone who has a mecha and can operate it for combat, please rush to Shelter No. 23——”
Before the voice in the broadcast could finish, a scream was heard, followed by a chilling chewing sound continuing over the broadcast.
Shi Yu immediately realized: “We probably can’t hold this place anymore.”
The one speaking over the broadcast was undoubtedly from the Sea Blue Star military or government. The situation was clear; he might have already ended up in the belly of a monster.
Shi Yu had personally seen a monster with disgusting tentacles and sharp teeth devour a person.
Feng Xiao and Lu Dongyan also realized the dire situation. At that moment, the vibrations from the shelter grew more intense, with faint screams coming through, making the three people in the room take a deep breath in unison.
Feng Xiao made a quick decision: “Let’s go! Follow me!”
Having someone familiar with the shelter, Shi Yu and Lu Dongyan found some direction, but as soon as they left the room, they saw many people frantically fleeing outside.
This area was a rescue zone, occupied by doctors, nurses, and the injured. The injured, spurred by the broadcast, disregarded their wounds and all ran out. Some fell to the ground and were trampled several times by the fleeing crowd, adding injuries to their already wounded bodies.
Even Shi Yu, who had lived through the harsh apocalypse, felt distressed.
Feng Xiao saw someone getting trampled, ran over to help her up, but just then, a tentacle smashed down from above the shelter and dragged her away, while the shelter, capable of withstanding the latest R-II missile strikes, was smashed open like a cone, with debris falling down.
Shi Yu, disregarding others, dodged around. From the breached area, she saw a mecha being flung away by a disgusting tentacle and smashed into the distance.
Her ears were filled with screams, and the shelter continued to be attacked.
Shi Yu frowned, and suddenly a mechanical voice rang in her ear: “Energy power crystal detected, recommend seizing it. Pilot Shi Yu, [War God] is ready!”
Shi Yu was stunned, not yet understanding what an energy power crystal was, when the silver ring on her index finger began to heat up.
Without a moment’s hesitation, knowing that staying inside the mecha would increase her chances of survival, she took out the [War God] from the mecha ring.
The silver-blue mecha descended again, and the originally gloomy sky seemed to clear up with its arrival, with a bright luster flowing over the surface of the mecha, dazzlingly mesmerizing.
At the same time, a satellite in the outer orbital ring of Sea Blue Star captured a faint signal fluctuation.
In front of Shi Yu, a virtual screen displayed a palm-sized diamond crystal, and the virtual construct of a tentacled, bar-shaped monster was outlined at the same time, with the diamond crystal located in the monster’s tooth-filled head.
Is this the energy power crystal?
Just as Shi Yu was distracted, the bar-shaped monster waved its disgusting tentacles and immediately entwined the [War God].
Its blood-stained teeth were exposed to the sky, emitting a harsh, unpleasant biting sound.
Shi Yu, covering the [War God]’s control core with her mental power, immediately felt a suffocating sensation of being bound. She snapped back to reality and, following the mecha system’s demonstration in beginner mode, controlled the [War God] to adjust its combat mode.
The appearance of the silver-blue mecha dazzled many people controlling mechas outside, and before they could recover, they saw her being entangled by the monster. They had not even come to their senses before they saw the silver-blue mecha release three floaters from each of its unbound legs.
Silver beams of light emitted from the floaters, slicing through the tentacles binding the silver-blue mecha with a ‘rip’ sound.
The bar-shaped monster let out a roar, and green liquid continuously spilled from its severed tentacle.
At the same time, five other floaters also released silver beams.
Everyone heard a series of massive ripping sounds, making them involuntarily flinch.
When they looked again, the bar-shaped monster, which the Sea Blue Star garrison could not deal with, was cut into several pieces before it could even let out a final roar, falling to the ground. Green liquid flowed out, stinking and nauseating, enough to make one vomit.
Shi Yu never expected
the floaters to be so powerful. She was thinking of controlling the floaters to show their might when another warning popped up in front of her.
?Warning! mecha energy below 30%?
Shi Yu couldn’t help but curse.
Damn! No wonder it was so effective; it turned out to be such a huge energy drain. She had just seen it was still at 70%!
Shi Yu reluctantly retracted the floaters, pulled out the beam sword container, swung it to release the beam sword, and drove the mecha forward to engage the monster in close combat.
Shi Yu had never learned how to pilot a mecha; her combat skills were purely based on instincts honed from fighting zombies in her previous life, and… a mysterious premonition.
Initially, she struggled to control the mecha, adjusting her body swiftly despite the effort, quickly getting accustomed to the pressure and discomfort brought by piloting the mecha.
In the cockpit, virtual screens flickered on and off, with massive amounts of data flowing through.
Focused on the battle, Shi Yu didn’t notice a virtual screen at the top of the cockpit showing the “Gene Lock” detection data wildly fluctuating and continuously calibrating.
In close combat, Shi Yu wielded a beam sword, dazzling the entire field. Many were stupefied watching the silver-blue mecha cut through the sky like a ray of light, clearing the gloom and bringing down brightness.
Besides her, a black mecha wielding a sniper rifle and a white mecha firing cannons appeared. The black mecha provided support, shooting at the monsters’ weak points with precision and agility.
This significantly eased Shi Yu’s pressure, allowing her beam sword to reap the lives of the monsters like the Grim Reaper’s scythe.
The tide of the battle began to shift. The Sea Blue Star garrison, initially overwhelmed due to unpreparedness, quickly regrouped. The monsters, realizing they were at a disadvantage, started fleeing with their tentacles.
After the battle, Shi Yu gasped for air, the mecha’s energy dwindling to twenty percent.
Indeed, she was still a salted fish; barely ten minutes into the fight, her body seemed to be at its limit.
Wiping sweat from her forehead and shaking her head, Shi Yu collected energy crystals, then went back to eating pudding. Suddenly, a communication request popped up in front of her.
