I Am a Salted Fish in the Interstellar Era - Chapter 2
Holding her drink, Shi Yu followed Gu Qianqian into the exhibition hall, a gathering place for people with nothing better to do.
Of course, besides being idle, they were also wealthy.
Shi Yu, in her faded white clothes, undoubtedly attracted many glances. She seemed unaware of how out of place she was, looking around the hall, only to find no sign of the small pudding that Gu Qianqian had lured her here with.
Taking a sip of her drink, Shi Yu nudged Gu Qianqian’s stomach with her elbow, “Where’s my small pudding?”
“Don’t worry, I’ll buy it for you in a bit.”
Shi Yu: “?”
Gu Qianqian was writing checks his body couldn’t cash, yet boldly claimed, “All you think about is eating all day long. Can’t you be a bit more sentimental?”
Seeing Shi Yu’s gaze becoming dangerous, Gu Qianqian’s voice grew smaller until he finally conceded, “Alright, alright, I’ll buy it for you after the exhibition ends. How about the latest pudding from Sweet Berry?”
Sweet Berry is the most famous dessert company in the federation, a universally renowned trademark.
Shi Yu immediately demanded, “I want a hundred.”
“A hundred?”
Shi Yu raised an eyebrow, indicating no room for negotiation.
Gu Qianqian was about to say more when someone came over and patted his shoulder, “What are you doing here?”
Gu Qianqian turned to see who it was and immediately stepped back, “Brother.”
The person was Gu Qianqian’s cousin, Gu Mingzhan, the wealthiest man on Sea Blue Star and one of the founders of Sweet Berry.
He was much more mature and steady than Gu Qianqian, with a pair of gold-rimmed glasses on his nose. Hanging from the right frame was a small blue crystal, adding a bit… of a bewitching charm to him.
Do all wealthy people have some strange hobbies? Gu Qianqian’s flamboyant red hair, Gu Mingzhan, hmm… his enchanting glasses.
While Shi Yu was pondering, Gu Mingzhan squinted and repeated, “What are you doing here?”
Truly a retired expeditionary army officer, his words carried an overwhelming presence.
Gu Qianqian shivered and hurriedly said, “I… heard there was something fun here, so I brought my classmate to play…”
The words were spoken with little confidence.
As the friend mentioned in his words, Shi Yu naturally nodded at Gu Mingzhan, her eyes slightly brightening.
The founder of Sweet Berry Group donates desserts to the Sea Blue Star Relief Station every month, and the beverage Shi Yu was holding was a product of Sweet Berry Group.
Tasty.
Good person.
Gu Mingzhan was a bit surprised by Shi Yu’s attitude, but when he saw her eyes slightly shining, he frowned and turned to Gu Qianqian, saying, “Come with me for a moment.”
Gu Qianqian glanced at Shi Yu, who shook the beverage bottle in her hand, meaning to do whatever they wanted as long as they remembered her pudding.
Gu Qianqian’s mouth twitched, and he walked away with Gu Mingzhan.
Since she was already there, Shi Yu simply held her drink and started looking around the exhibition hall.
She chose a corner with fewer people, stood in front of a glass cabinet, and looked at the specimen inside.
It was a grey-black butterfly, with white wavy patterns on its wings, scattered with asymmetrically distributed pale yellow rings of varying sizes. Its antennae looked like two dried leaves, drooping like the ears of a lop-eared rabbit, completely covering the butterfly’s face.
The entire butterfly’s wings drooped, wrapping around its body like a cloak. From the side, it looked almost like a person the size of a thumb.
Shi Yu took a sip of her drink, closely examining the butterfly wings that seemed to emit a faint green glow.
Undeniably, the butterfly specimen was extremely beautiful, but it also brought a sense of eeriness.
Shi Yu looked again, and the eerie feeling seemed to have disappeared. At the other side of the glass cabinet, someone had appeared at some point.
She instinctively looked up, and the lighting in the exhibition hall haloed behind that person, almost dazzling her.
It was a young man, wearing a thin white shirt, the top button casually undone, revealing his exquisitely flawless collarbone. His skin was excessively pale, as if a slight force could leave marks. Further up, there was a sleek, black, sexy choker.
Shi Yu continued to stare, biting her straw.
His long silver hair cascaded down to his waist, and as Shi Yu looked up, she saw his thin lips slightly pursed, his deep, dark pupils spreading a sense of mystery.
Pretty…
Shi Yu took another sip of her drink and struck up a conversation, “Hello, what’s your name?”
Shi Yu, besides liking to eat little puddings, also enjoyed admiring beautiful things. After all, life is so boring, a salted fish needs to enjoy.
The young man didn’t answer her, but stared at her for a while before blinking and turning his head away. Just then, a hurried footsteps sound approached.
Following his gaze, Shi Yu saw Gu Mingzhan and several men in formal attire with solemn expressions walking over. Seeing the young man, Gu Mingzhan was the first to say, “Yuyan, why didn’t you bring someone with you when you went out?”
Yuyan?
Which Yu?
Shi Yu’s Yu? What a coincidence.
Shi·Salted Fish·Yu thought, turning her head just to see Gu Mingzhan holding his forehead, saying, “Sorry, I was too hasty, I didn’t mean to blame you.”
The young man showed no emotional fluctuation but nodded his head, hands in his pockets, and slowly walked away.
Shi Yu watched his slender and thin back, intending to take another sip of her drink, but the bottle made a slurping sound, empty.
The sound was so loud and sudden that Gu Mingzhan found it hard not to frown at her, but he only glanced once and said nothing, then left with a group of people in a flurry.
Gu Qianqian popped up from somewhere, took a long sigh, and said, “Let’s go, Fish.”
However, Shi Yu grabbed him, “Who was that person just now?”
It wasn’t that she was being sensitive; she could feel that the person’s gaze on her was meticulous, as if measuring something, and it didn’t seem like the way one looks at a stranger. She was sure she had never seen that young man before; after all, he was too handsome for her not to remember unless she was blind or had amnesia.
Gu Qianqian asked reflexively, “Which person?”
“The one who left with your brother?” Shi Yu asked, trying to make her question sound casual.
Gu Qianqian looked around and said, “Oh, you mean him. He’s a friend of my brother’s, from the capital star.”
“Capital star?” The stingy uncle went to visit the capital star.
“Yes!” Gu Qianqian replied, then whispered into Shi Yu’s ear, “I heard he’s a big shot with a military background.”
After saying this, Gu Qianqian looked around, grabbed Shi Yu’s shoulder, and led her outside, muttering, “Let’s go, go, go. We won’t see the new species. If I knew I’d run into my brother and lose a hundred puddings, I wouldn’t have come.”
Hearing about the hundred puddings, Shi Yu immediately forgot about the young man.
As they left, nobody noticed the butterfly specimen that Shi Yu had been looking at earlier gently fluttered its wings, and transparent scales drifted down.
