I Am a Salted Fish in the Interstellar Era - Chapter 9
The small black spiders, the size of a palm, swarmed in, their densely packed sharp teeth continuously making a crackling noise as they bit, about to swallow Shi Yu in the blink of an eye.
Shi Yu tossed the energy gun onto the ground. If an outsider were standing there at that moment, they would notice a layer of golden light emanating from her eyes. Simultaneously, all the metallic debris on the ground began to tremble.
Shi Yu possessed a metal-based ability, making her extremely sensitive to metals. She had noticed that the building’s walls, gnawed by the spiders, contained a significant amount of alloy.
In the blink of an eye, Shi Yu’s pupils turned completely golden, and those alloys visibly transformed into several small curved knives at a speed visible to the naked eye.
In an instant, all the curved knives, with extreme speed and sharpness, fiercely plunged into the bodies of the spiders, splattering green fluid that was both dirty and disgusting.
Shi Yu grimaced and dodged, but the curved knives, like toys of the Grim Reaper from hell, spun beautiful and extravagant arcs, crackling as they took down another swath of spiders.
The small spiders rushing towards Shi Yu seemed to sense the danger and all curled their legs, retreating backward.
Shi Yu, though imposing, chose not to linger in battle. Seeing the swarm of spiders retreat as if shrinking, she quickly used her metal ability to create a large opening in the ground, stepping on metal-formed stairs to make a swift departure.
After she left, the chaotic central control room emitted harsh, grating sounds of metal against metal. Sparks then flew onto the spider corpses, igniting a widespread fire as if a breeze was fueling a prairie fire.
The sparks surged uncontrollably, and the unattended metal curved knives all fell to the ground, engulfed by the intense heat.
After descending several floors, Shi Yu stopped in front of a large floor-to-ceiling window in the corridor, rubbing her head. She hadn’t used her abilities on such a large scale for a long time, and her body was clearly not coping well. Now, she needed to find a safe place to rest.
As for Xie Yuyan, Shi Yu didn’t think the “old hen” would allow him to stay alone with her, seeing her as no threat.
He wouldn’t die here. Without her, he could probably have easily escaped.
Shi Yu, leaning on the floor-to-ceiling window, followed the corridor. She had observed the layout of the place when she arrived; almost every floor had the same layout. She just needed to follow this corridor to the front elevator to quickly leave.
Thinking this, Shi Yu breathed a sigh of relief and looked out of the window.
Dawn was approaching, a hint of red appearing on the horizon, as if the cold darkness had passed and the Sea Blue planet was about to welcome a rebirth.
Shi Yu shifted her gaze back.
Suddenly, a cold chill ran up her spine. Shi Yu instinctively turned aside, and an energy bullet whizzed past her face.
Her body tensed, and the next second, an energy gun was pressed against her head.
Shi Yu didn’t hesitate to surrender.
This gesture was familiar to her.
The middle-aged man’s index finger was on the trigger, his expression as cold as ice. He clearly didn’t plan to finish Shi Yu off immediately but asked in a calm voice, “Where is the young master?”
“We split up and ran.” Shi Yu replied straightforwardly.
But no sooner had she finished speaking than the energy gun pressed against her temple. The middle-aged man, expressionless, demanded, “Where is he?”
“Hey, hey, don’t get excited. He’s on the 28th floor, in the central control room.”
Shi Yu answered very directly. Seeing the middle-aged man staring at her, she quickly added, “It’s true. We encountered spiders there. I saw he couldn’t run a few steps without gasping, so…”
As she spoke, her gaze drifted, completely resembling someone who had abandoned their companion to save their own skin.
The middle-aged man didn’t seem to think she possessed any noble sentiments. He narrowed his eyes, his finger on the trigger relaxed slightly, then tensed again in an instant.
With a bang, the energy bullet shot out of the gun barrel. But the girl, who should have been shot in the head by the energy bullet, dodged with incredible speed. Her knees, covered in metal at some point, bent and forcefully hit the middle-aged man in the abdomen.
The middle-aged man clearly hadn’t expected her to react so quickly. Caught off guard, he was struck squarely, a sharp pain making him grunt.
However, in an instant, the middle-aged man’s arms were covered with liquid metal, striking fiercely towards Shi Yu.
Shi Yu had previously witnessed the power of the mimetic exoskeleton. Despite being prepared, she couldn’t directly withstand the blow, and the immense force sent her flying backward.
With just her physical strength, it was impossible to contend against someone wearing a mimetic exoskeleton, especially since Shi Yu had recently overused her special abilities, leaving her body weak and exhausted.
She crashed hard onto the ground, spitting out a mouthful of fresh blood, and felt intense pain in her right waist where she was hit.
Shi Yu knew her ribs might be broken.
It was a close call from being sent to the afterlife.
Shi Yu forced a smile.
Had she known she would encounter the old hen so coincidentally, she wouldn’t have abandoned the pretty boy and run away on her own. With the pretty boy present, the old hen might not have dared to treat her this way.
As Shi Yu thought hazily, the middle-aged man had already picked up an energy gun and began to fire at her intensively. A single shot from the energy gun could kill Shi Yu instantly.
Biting her teeth and enduring the severe pain, she grinned.
Almost simultaneously, several metal curved knives flew out of her pocket, slicing all the incoming energy bullets in half.
The graceful curved knives, unbridled in their arcs, did not stop after slicing the energy bullets but continued at an incredible speed towards the middle-aged man.
The middle-aged man was stunned at the appearance of the curved knives, and when they sliced through the energy bullets, he exclaimed in a loss of composure, “Psychic materialization!”
Shi Yu didn’t understand what he meant but took advantage of his brief distraction. All the curved knives advanced in unison, fiercely stabbing towards the middle-aged man’s vital spots.
Caught off guard, a curved knife left a bloody mark on the man’s neck, with blood flowing down, the sting bringing him back to reality. Ignoring his bleeding wound, he hastily donned the mimetic exoskeleton.
The mimetic exoskeleton was developed for human combat when mechs couldn’t be used, significantly enhancing human combat capabilities.
Already a hardened veteran of the battlefield, the middle-aged man, now wearing the mimetic exoskeleton, grabbed a metal curved knife, intending to bend it. However, the knife changed shape and pierced right through his palm.
The middle-aged man was extremely astonished, not expecting the metal curved knife to morph. He made a quick decision, picked up the energy gun, and while dodging the curved knives, fired at Shi Yu again.
Shi Yu dodged awkwardly, the taste of blood in her mouth growing stronger, and her consciousness began to blur. Just a few dodging moves made her gasp for air.
The floor-to-ceiling windows were hit by the energy bullets due to her dodging, and the thick glass slowly started to crack.
Shi Yu didn’t notice the change in the glass. Shaking her head, her eyes sparked with golden light, and the palm-sized curved knives transformed into fine, dense needles, leaving no space for the middle-aged man to dodge.
With a retch, Shi Yu spat out another mouthful of fresh blood.
This time it was serious.
Overburdened, Shi Yu felt a warmth at her right index finger, but her blurred consciousness couldn’t tell if it was just her imagination or if her finger had accidentally touched an energy bullet.
Holding her right waist, she tried to flee in a sorry state.
But she had only taken a few steps when a massive force hit her from behind, the golden curved knives shattered the glass beside her, and the lateral force carried Shi Yu straight out of the window.
Shi Yu fell out of the window, the whistling wind blowing past her ears.
Damn! This is the twenty-something floor!
Shi Yu lay flat, wondering if she could cross over again?
Forget it, the chances of crossing over again were too slim.
Golden light condensed in Shi Yu’s eyes again, just as the temperature on her index finger’s mecha ring rose, and a mechanical voice sounded.
“Lancezell activation successful.”
“Physical fitness check passed, mental power check passed, meets driving standards, system bound, driver Shi Yu, [War God] is ready!”
