[Collapse] -> [Rupture]

4-27. Devil Territory: Droug Mountains Range

Even though it was already night, it seemed like Dacia was determined to unseal it right away. I thought it could wait until tomorrow, but maybe they had their reasons. Glancing at Amariaz, he nodded several times, urging me to go.

Everyone seems quite impatient, huh… Well, as long as it’s not a problem to move quickly, let’s give it a try.

“Alright, then please enter this gate.”

“Um… What’s that?”

“In simple terms, it’s a warp gate. It’s already connected to the Droug Mountains.”

Such a skill exists… Indeed, as Amariaz mentioned, devils seem to have many unique abilities. And it’s incredibly convenient.

But it takes courage to enter this. It looks very ominous, making me hesitate to go in.

“Well then, I’ll go ahead!”

With that, Amariaz jumped in without hesitation. As he entered, purple and black patterns moved, creating ripples. After a few seconds, it returned to normal, but when I looked to the other side, I couldn’t see Amariaz anymore. It seems like he really warped.

Wow… I marveled at it, and before I knew it, Atrak, who had been standing behind me, pushed me forward. With a smile, he strengthened his force, pushing me through the gate.

I wasn’t mentally prepared yet, so I felt uneasy seeing the eerie vortex approaching, closing my eyes and entering.

Clack, clack, I managed not to fall despite stepping on something, and when I opened my eyes, I saw a different world spread out before me.

The surroundings were burning red, with lava flowing in places. The forest there was always on fire, making a roaring sound, but it wasn’t burning. As I observed carefully, I noticed that the leaves themselves were on fire, yet the trees and leaves remained intact. It must be trees with fire resistance.

Although it was night, it was very bright due to everything burning around. Even the stones lying around were on fire. Everything in this terrain, except for the ground, was burning and continued to do so. Occasionally, something would stop burning, but after a while, it would reignite as if it remembered what it did.

“What is this…”

“The Droug Mountains. It used to be a land with many dangerous beasts, but eventually, it became a land where burning plants and stones appeared.”

Recognizing the voice, I quickly turned around. I thought there was only Amariaz, but there were two familiar figures standing there.

“Huh!? Uchikage-Ojiichan!?”

“Because of that, the ecosystem changed.”

“Mom too!?”

Uchikage-Ojiichan, fanning himself with his hand, was still wearing his usual kimono. I wondered if he was hot with the haori on, but come to think of it, I’ve never seen him without it, even throughout the year. But the fabric seems thinner now.

And my mom is here too… I didn’t recognize her until I heard her voice. That’s because she was wearing different equipment than usual.

The attire is primarily black, prioritizing ease of movement with inconspicuous armor. However, plates are attached to vital areas, and a thick overcoat is worn. Two straight swords are carried at the waist, with just a hint of the face peeking out from under the coat.

While the clothing is intriguing, there are several things I want to ask!

“Why are Uchikage-Ojiichan and Mom here?! What about the Oni Village!? And what’s with Mom’s attire?!”

“I summoned them,” muttered Dacia, the last one to come out of the gate. He chuckled as if enjoying himself.

He lightly greeted Uchikage-Ojiichan, who chuckled back. “It’s been a while for both of you.”

“Yeah.”

“It feels weird knowing devils like you.” Mom added.

“Don’t say that. So? I’ve heard about the situation. Is the Oni Village okay?”

Yeah, that’s the most important thing right now. It’s been a while since then, and we have no idea what’s happened over there.

And wait, if Dacia heard about it, does that mean he called Uchikage-Ojiichan without checking on the Oni Village first!?

Is that alright!?

Well, maybe it’s fine since he called them, but still…

Maybe it would be better to directly meet and talk with them!

While I was silently screaming in my mind, Uchikage-Ojiichan briefly explained what had happened at the Oni Village.

“As expected, soldiers from the Gharrot Kingdom came. But they only conducted investigations and left. Everyone protected Yuuzen, so things should be fine for a while. However, it seems that an angel appeared before the people of the Gharrot Kingdom. Because many believed its words, it’s safe to assume that enemies have increased.”

“That’s troublesome,” Dacia said, and the two chuckled modestly.

It’s not a situation to laugh about, but for them, human forces aren’t a threat. Overflowing confidence seems to bring out their laughter.

Anyway, the fact that the Oni Village harbors the child of the evil god has been dispelled. Suspicion still lingers, but after three days of investigation, they found nothing. The soldiers seemed somewhat relieved, and their vigilance had eased.

But there’s one problem.

It’s Amariaz.

Currently, negotiations are being conducted by Sreiz Corselet, the king of the Gharrot Kingdom. While he seems reassured to be in a safe place, the demand from them remains the same: “return him to his parents.” So negotiations are proving difficult.

Amariaz sighed heavily upon hearing about it, shoulders slumping. He understands his situation best. If he were to return to the Gharrot Kingdom now, he would likely be abducted by angels.

“Why can’t those stupid parents understand…”

“Amariaz’ mom doesn’t know that you are being targeted by angels, is she?”

“Yeah, but… Shouldn’t they have understood after talking to Sreiz-sama!?”

“Well… it felt a bit… forced, though.”

It couldn’t be helped, but there’s still lingering unease.

Anyway,

Dacia clapped her hands once, drawing everyone’s attention.

“Preparations are complete. Shall we go?”

“That’s right.”

“Yes, let’s go.”

Mom pointed in a direction.

When Amariaz and I looked in that direction, we saw a large cave mouth gaping in our field of view.
