5-39. Assault

Ouren and Lize were arguing, but this was hardly the time for that. From the sheer number of enemy presences I could sense, it was clear that the situation was dire. The townspeople had figured out how to use the bombs and were relentlessly bombarding us.

The deafening explosions continuously hammered against the water barrier, but Ouren’s magic held firm. Despite the intensity of the bombardment, the shockwaves were minimal, a testament to his formidable defensive capabilities.

But something felt off. We had just defeated the angel, and it seemed too soon for the townspeople to have organized an attack like this. Most of them probably didn’t even understand the situation yet.

At least my mom was with Ashera, and Amariaz was trying to grasp the situation using his ‘Spatial Awareness’. Ouren seemed preoccupied with Lize, laughing as if this were all just a minor inconvenience. His calm and composed demeanor was impressive.

Amariaz pulled his hand back, a small smile on his face, which surprised me.

“What’s going on?” I asked.

“Ah, it’s just… it’s been a while since I’ve seen one,” he replied, his tone both nostalgic and annoyed.

“Seen what?”

“A real angel.”

Amariaz spoke with a mixture of nostalgia and frustration, a slight smile on his face. He had finally found a purpose.

He looked at his hands, noting how little power he currently held, his weakened body far from its prime. Though he had allies now, the mission to rid the world of angels and restore balance was something beyond a single person’s capabilities.

“So, Warzen-sama made me into a human child for this reason.” he murmured.

Realizing the enormity of his task, he sighed. Even if this Warzen person no longer remembered him, having someone who did know him was enough. Cursing Wozen internally, Amariaz conjured a ‘Air PressureSword’ in his hand.

“Ouren, there’s an angel with special abilities among them.”

“Oh really, Lize? You’re sure it’s not just another weak one?”

“This one’s different.”

“Is that so?” Ouren’s expression turned serious. He interrupted his conversation with Lize and drew a new blade from his magic pouch.

It was a three-foot-long katana with a pristine white scabbard. Even sheathed, its presence was overwhelming, and the elegant curves of the blade made it look like a work of art.

Ouren secured the katana at his waist, tested its balance briefly, then re-sheathed the Kage Orochi at his side. The white katana complemented his white attire, exuding an air of authority. Satisfied, Ouren placed his hand on the hilt.

“It’s been a while since I’ve used this. So, Amariaz, is this angel worthy of me drawing this blade?”

“Is that… Hakuryuzen?”

“You heard about it from Uchikage? Yeah, that’s right. So, is this angel worth it?”

“I think so.”

“Good.”

Ouren took a step forward and unsheathed Hakuryuzen. The polished blade reflected the water around us, taking on a faint blue hue. The graceful, fluid motion of his draw was mesmerizing.

The surrounding water collapsed, spilling onto the ground and flooding the area. With the ‘Water Barrier’ dissolved, we saw a crowd of people glaring at us. Despite their fear, their numbers were overwhelming.

“Do not fear.”

A single angel hovered above the crowd. Unlike the white-clad angels we’d seen before, this one wore green robes and wielded a massive scythe, his frail frame belying the weapon’s size. His long black hair, tinged with dark green at the tips, framed his sharp gaze directed at us.

“Continue your attack. It is enough,” he commanded, his voice slow and deliberate, resonating with the townspeople.

Gradually, their fear dissipated, replaced by a pale green mist that rose from their heads and coalesced around the angel. The mist condensed into a sphere before he delicately picked it up and consumed it, the crunch echoing ominously.

“Ah, the taste of fear… exquisite.”

He effortlessly brandished the massive scythe with one hand. Seeing this, Ouren laughed.

“Definitely worth using this blade on him,” he said.

“An angel unlike any other,” I noted.

“Indeed. Let’s see how he fares against me,” Ouren declared, stepping forward, ready to engage.
