I Was a Small Fish When I Reincarnated, but It Seems That I Can Become a Dragon, so I Will Do My Best - Extra Chapter 219
7-39. Side -Reizen- Pure White Sphere
The white spheres sealed in the jars seemed to emit a faint glow, slightly illuminating their surroundings. Though there were several of them, they weren’t bright enough to banish the darkness completely. When one of the spheres gently swayed, the others followed suit, moving as if stirred by an unseen breeze. After a moment, they settled back into stillness, as if nothing had happened.
At first glance, it was hard to determine what these spheres were, but Reizen had a deep sense of unease. Karna seemed to share his feeling, and she cautiously picked up one of the jars, examining the contents closely.
White flames—this was perhaps the best way to describe them. Although neither of them had seen anything like it before, there was an instinctive understanding of what they were looking at.
These spheres were more than just oddities, they were souls. Reizen and Karna both realized this almost simultaneously. The small, fragile-looking spheres huddled together inside the jars, much like penguin chicks braving the cold by staying close.
What would happen if the jars were opened? And how had these souls been extracted and trapped in such a way? These questions weighed heavily on their minds, but no answers were forthcoming, leaving them both puzzled and uneasy.
“What do we do with these? How do we deal with this?” Karna asked, her voice trembling.
“And who do these souls belong to…?” Reizen wondered aloud, but his voice trailed off as a ghost approached one of the jars.
The soul inside immediately responded, repeatedly throwing itself against the jar, as if trying to break free. The other souls merely floated around, but this one was different—desperate. It had to be the soul of the ghostly child they had encountered earlier.
But what, then, was the ghost standing before them? Was it just a remnant, a mere echo of the child’s consciousness? The more they pondered it, the more futile it seemed. These were matters beyond the grasp of science and reason—phenomena that could only be understood through instinct.
Reizen felt that souls were an intrinsic part of the body, while ghosts were the lingering will or thoughts of the deceased. He needed to make this distinction to keep his thoughts from becoming too tangled.
>>>It’s cold…<<< the ghost muttered.
“Where is your body…?” Reizen asked softly, though he already had an inkling of the answer.
“Why would anyone need to extract souls like this?” Karna mused, her voice tinged with sorrow.
“And there’s the barrier that keeps the spirits out… We should investigate, but…” Reizen’s thoughts were interrupted when he looked up at the ceiling.
The little girl ghost was there, hanging down from the ceiling and waving playfully.
<<<Are you ready yet?>>> she asked in a sing-song voice.
“Not yet,” Reizen replied cautiously.
<<<Liar! I can see you, so you’re ready!>>> the girl giggled.
“You’re not just a child, are you?” Reizen’s voice took on a dangerous edge.
<<<Eh?>>> The girl looked confused, tilting her head in genuine puzzlement. Karna also stared at Reizen, surprised by his words.
“If you’re not a ghost, then what are you?” Reizen pressed, his suspicion growing.
“…You’re an angel, aren’t you?”
Reizen’s accusation was met with an unexpected response—the ghostly girl broke into a wide smile, as if genuinely impressed by his deduction. The other ghosts remained quiet, speaking only in whispers if at all, but this girl was different. She was lively, talkative, and eager to play—a stark contrast to the other spirits.
<<<Wow, you figured it out!>>> she said, not denying the claim.
“You’re not denying it,” Reizen observed coldly.
<<<Hehe, well, I’m just a ghost, right? I can’t hurt you! But I don’t plan on letting you leave, either.>>>
“What happened to the children?” Reizen demanded, his tone sharp.
<<<Oh, don’t worry! They’re probably with their parents by now!>>> she replied, her voice sickly sweet.
A wave of dread washed over Reizen, and he narrowed his eyes at the ghostly angel before him.
<<<Yeah, the parents might’ve doubted us for a bit, but now that the children are back, they’ll trust us again! Isn’t that great?>>> she continued, her tone growing more and more unsettling.
“What did you do?” Reizen growled.
<<<Oh? Nothing much~!>>> she responded with a giggle.
Crack.
Reizen tightened his grip, his knuckles cracking audibly as he prepared to take action.
“‘Universal Seal’…”
The ghostly girl’s expression shifted from smug to shocked as she realized what was happening.
