I Was a Small Fish When I Reincarnated, but It Seems That I Can Become a Dragon, so I Will Do My Best - Extra Chapter 6
1-6. In the Land of Treasure Fish…
Watching Yuuzen diligently carry stones, stacking and occasionally knocking them over, Uchikage smiled slightly with a hint of trouble.
To those who knew him from the past, this scene might seem perfectly normal. However, to an outsider, it was clear that something unusual was happening. Uchikage had known Yuuzen for a long time, and while this was the norm for him, he understood that it might be hard for others to comprehend.
Once upon a time, there had been an incident where Yuuzen unknowingly played with the Oni children. These Oni children were strong from a young age, and they often struggled to control their immense strength. It hadn’t been the case in the past, but at some point, that had changed.
A child’s growth was rapid, even for Oni children. They usually became capable of leading a normal life within a year once they realized their powers and how to control them. However, during this year, and especially before they gained control, they often broke things and accidentally hurt those they played with.
And although it still happened occasionally, Yuuzen had played with these Oni children.
Uchikage had wondered what might happen, but Yuuzen, hit by thrown stones and more, remained unperturbed, maintaining a relaxed attitude throughout. Onis had a slight resistance to attacks by other Onis, but Yuuzen, who lacked Oni blood, didn’t possess that resistance. However, nothing seemed to affect him.
Yuuzen believed this was perfectly normal, and Uchikage spent as much time as he could with Yuuzen to ensure he was safe, all for the sake of a certain person who rested in the Land of Treasure Fish.
He glanced across the river to the lush Land of Treasure Fish. The vibrant greenery was in full bloom. As the wind rustled through the grass, a soothing swishing sound reached their ears.
“Mmm… as I grow older, I become more sentimental.”
Uchikage shook his head lightly, then turned to look at Yuuzen.
Despite his struggles, Yuuzen was making progress with the fish tank. It was nearly ready to transfer the captured treasure fish to. Uchikage could see that it was time to move the fish across to the tank.
He stood up and walked over.
The fish tank Yuuzen was making was just the right size to hold a couple more fish of the same size as the one they had caught. They could safely place the captured treasure fish in the tank and let them swim freely.
“Well, not bad. Getting used to it, aren’t you?”
“These rocks are heavy… But it’s like building with blocks, so it’s fun!”
“You’ll need to get stronger.”
It was common knowledge that Yuuzen had greater than average strength. Even children his age couldn’t lift rocks of that size, but perhaps playing with Oni children had altered his perception.
…Yuuzen didn’t have any contact with humans except for Karna.
This was the Land of the Onis, and due to certain circumstances, Yuuzen and Karna lived in a house near the Front Oni Castle.
It was the best choice.
General knowledge was taught in the Front Oni Castle, but human norms were not. Uchikage felt some unease about this, but he didn’t see any better alternatives.
Karna and Yuuzen were both figures from the “past.” Yuuzen was too young to understand the ways of the world, and Karna was the same in that regard. Uchikage wondered what they should do, but he couldn’t find a solution at the moment.
“Uchikage-Ojichan! Let’s catch the next treasure fish!”
“Right. I can’t let Yuuzen outdo me.”
“Hehe! I’m the strongest right now!”
“Yes, you are.”
Uchikage playfully patted Yuuzen on the head, who smiled cutely. Children could be blissfully ignorant of their parents’ worries.
Now, as Yuuzen said, they should resume fishing. Uchikage was about to retrieve the rod and move away from the fish tank when he suddenly sensed a presence.
“…”
He stopped and looked around to identify the source of this feeling. He closed his eyes and traced the presence. A moment later, he heard the sound of a fish leaping. Turning his gaze in that direction, he saw a massive fish, approximately ten times the size of the treasure fish, jump out of the water. In the next instant, the giant fish swallowed the treasure fish that had been struggling.
“Whoa! What is that?”
“An Acid Gill! Yuuzen, get back!”
“Eh?”
Uchikage shouted, and at the same moment, a massive wave surged towards them.
