I Was a Small Fish When I Reincarnated, but It Seems That I Can Become a Dragon, so I Will Do My Best - Extra Chapter 94
4-14. “Greetings”
For Devils capable of flying, the gates of the castle were practically non-existent. Instead of walking to their destination, it was common practice to enter through windows or terraces. There weren’t any set standards like those in human society dictating who could enter where, allowing anyone to come and go as they pleased.
However, visiting high-ranking Devils or Devil generals was something most mid-ranking or lower-ranking Devils felt uncomfortable with, so it was mainly the higher-ranking Devils who frequented the castle. Abyss seemed to be a high-ranking Devil himself. It appeared he had been promoted from a mid-ranking Devil about two hundred years ago and now commanded his own sizable unit, though their activities weren’t too frequent.
Entering through a large window of the castle, Abyss skillfully grabbed me and Amariaz with his mass and gently set us down. It was a rare sensation to feel the solid ground beneath my feet after so long, even if it was a hard floor. Somehow, being on the ground felt better than being in the air. Otherwise, the special ability ‘Earth’s Blessing’ wouldn’t activate, making it difficult to fully grasp the situation.
Feeling relieved alone, I suddenly became aware of my surroundings. Looking around, the Devil castle didn’t seem as ominous as one might expect. It gave off a surprisingly ordinary impression, considering it was a Devil’s castle. This seemed to be some sort of auditorium, but there were no statues like those found in churches. It lacked the grandeur of the Gallot Kingdom yet didn’t possess the calmness of the Onikami Castle. It had a vibe somewhere in between.
“Ah, is this a ruin?”
“We just rebuilt it recently…”
“Ah!? No, that’s not what I meant! I meant the atmosphere! The atmosphere!!”
“To humans, it might seem like a ruin…”
“No, I said that’s not it!!”
Abyss seemed to understand but was teasing nonetheless. She couldn’t contain her laughter, and Amariaz joined in chuckling.
Though it was clearly my slip of the tongue, they didn’t need to find it that amusing.
“Is there someone here?”
A dignified voice echoed. With each step, there was a distinctive clack, clack of footsteps, and as the sound drew nearer, an unusual presence filled the air. It wasn’t just a menacing aura, but something else entirely.
Though there wasn’t any wind, the person’s clothes seemed to flutter as if caught in a breeze.
The door at the back of the platform closed with a thud. Someone had stepped out and shut the door behind them. They quickly noticed us and began approaching, emanating an intimidating presence the entire time.
Two silver horns protruded sharply from their heads. Their wings, painted with what seemed like silver leaf, gleamed faintly with each movement. Their long black coat was adorned with what appeared to be sturdy fur at the collar, and thin threads with dice-like objects hung from the sleeves.
Their face appeared somewhat worn, with a thin and menacing gaze. They seemed tired, wearing an expression that suggested they were either exhausted or sleepy, but they rubbed their eyes upon recognizing a familiar face. Then, they noticed the two others beside me.
“…Abyss? …Does that mean?!”
The sleepy expression was nowhere to be found.
With widened eyes, they threw aside the documents they were holding. In the next moment, in the blink of an eye, the silver Devil appeared before me, grabbing my shoulder firmly.
“Whoaahh!?!”
“So, you’re Yuuzen!! Hahaha! You’ve grown so much!! Isn’t that right, Abyss?!”
“You’re too strong. You attacked me the moment you saw me.”
“Hoh, not backing down even when facing a Devil!! Truly the son of Reizen!! Hahaha!”
As they ruffled my head, my vision swayed back and forth. The atmosphere around the silver Devil completely changed, and the sense of intimidation vanished entirely. Amariaz seemed surprised by this change.
Who is this person!?
What’s with this silver guy!?
“W-wait, who are you!?”
“Huh? Oh, right, I see. So that Uchikage didn’t mention me at all?”
“Seems like he kept it a secret.”
Well, if that’s the case, there’s no helping it. She coughed lightly before speaking.
Smiling warmly, the silver Devil crouched slightly, making eye contact.
“I’m Dacia, a Devil general. Nice to meet you, though we’ve met before, you were just a baby back then.”
“T-that long ago?”
“Yeah, it’s been four hundred years… Honestly, that Uchikage. If he had told me sooner, I would’ve come to see you myself. To think he wouldn’t even reach out to me until things got to this point. Truly unreliable.”
As she straightened up, grumbling with frustration, She realized it had been quite a while since Yuuzen last met Dacia. The last time they met was just before the war ended, about four hundred years ago. Yuuzen had misunderstood, thinking it was just over a decade ago, but Dacia’s mention of “four hundred years” corrected that misconception.
Although Yuuzen’s doubts had diminished to almost nothing, he still gave Amariaz a skeptical look. Amariaz responded proudly, as if to say, “See? I told you!”
It’s getting kind of out of hand… Was my father really that amazing? It feels like I’m in a position where the phrase “living off your parents’ reputation” suits me. I hope it’s just my imagination…
“Well then. Attrak-sama!”
Dacia mentioned a name Yuuzen had heard before. According to Abyss, they were supposed to be a Devil lord. Yuuzen was surprised by suddenly calling out to someone like that, but maybe it’s a common practice among Devils. It seems like there isn’t much of a hierarchy here.
Then, a part of the floor began to rise.
“Ehh?”
