I woke up to find I have a child - Chapter 14
This is not the first time that Han Feixu was photographed or videotaped by random strangers. Last time there was a rich second-generation who was traveling in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and just happened to see Han Feixu walking down the street and took some pictures she later posted on Instagram. However, there was nothing really special about the picture, and there was no big scandal involved so only a few media outlets reported the incident.
Before she left the stage, Han Feixu only acted in two films, both as the female lead and both won awards, but other than that, she did not so much else. Although she could be considered a small-time celebrity, she did not have much exposure. Therefore, she slowly faded out of the public’s eye. In addition, her appearance has drastically changed over these past few years so except for a few true fans, no one could truly recognize her if she walks down the streets of China.
Even the famous verified account that posted the picture of her was not a real fan and only posted after some other fans told her who it was.
The headline “Internet celebrity beats up an old lady” was just too eye-catching and not to mention there were too many reveals that popped up from this one event and made everyone dizzy.
The first reveal, the old lady was not actually some old lunatic or beggar who appeared at the mall to be for money like the news initially said she was but the mother of the mall’s owner. She was there to visit her son but accidentally bumped into an internet celebrity and was pulled into a disaster. Later it was confirmed that she was a retired professor, and was most definitely not a ‘porcelain scammer.’ (T/N: porcelain scammer is slang for someone who purposely tries to cause injury or damage and scam the other person in paying for compensation. The original is putting “expensive” porcelain in a place where it is likely to be knocked over by passers-by thus the term “porcelain scammer.”)
The second reveal is that the internet celebrity is not a real internet celebrity. She often posts photos on social media to show off her wealth and selfies to show off her beauty. She has many followers but she’s never been sponsored by a brand or anything, so she can’t be considered an internet celebrity at all. At most, she was someone who wanted to be an influencer and called herself a celebrity to gain attention.
The third reveal. Although the Internet celebrity is not a real Internet celebrity, some netizens did some digging and found that the woman was at the mall to wait for someone. And this person was none other than a variety show star named Shi Xi. But Shi Xi is already married, so the netizens did some more digging and found out that on this woman’s Weibo and Instagram were so many photos of her and Shi Xi that became evidence of Shi Xi’s infidelity.
This was the biggest reveal in this event. Shi Xi’s wife is a big star named Chi Qiu. The two of them have been married for two years and often show their affection on stage. Now it turns out he was cheating?
An old lady, a mistress, Shi Xi, and Chi Qiu were all pulled into this scandal. This incident became such a raging topic on Weibo that the top three trending searches were all about this incident. In the beginning, the famous verified account also decided to add a little drama by posting Han Feixu’s picture but later it blew up as well. Then the tag #Han Feixu among the melon seed-eating masses# entered the trending search as well and fanned the flames of this incident even higher.
When Ye Mingxin came home, she saw Han Feixu with a laptop in her lap while holding a mobile phone and a tablet beside her leg. She seemed to be closely watching the situation.
…..
There were just too many comments that Han Feixu can only keep up by using three devices at once.
That Bowl of Soup: “Who is Han Feixu? I have never heard of her?”
Attack The Empress: “OP, are you the reincarnation of Leeuwenhoek?” (T/N: Leeuwenhoek is slang for someone who noticed a super tiny detail and is a reference to the guy who first invented the microscope)
Dreamless Night: “Damn! It really is her! She changed so much! There is not even a trace of Rumeng’s shadow left in her anymore! Ah, wuwuwuwu….
The Pencil blackened by Time: “Ahhhhhhh, Rumeng jie-jie! I liked that character very much, her acting was so good! I was wondering why I haven’t heard from her since then. It turns out that she became a melon seed-eater 23333 (T/N: 23333 is slang for lol)
Fan Rumeng is the character Han Feixu played in her debut film and the protagonist of?Blossoming Dreams?. The film’s plot revolved around the time period when the Republic of China was in charge and it was a story of two completely different women whose paths crossed during a time of war and sorrow. Fan Rumeng is a songstress in the film and Ye Mingxin played the role of a character named Bai Jinglan, an Eldest Young Miss from Shanghai.
The key of this movie is a tragedy and the ending left a bitter taste in one’s mouth, but the beautiful cinematography and the wonderful plot left this film deeply rooted in the hearts of the people who watched. When one mentions Han Feixu, nobody knows who she is. However, if you mention Fan Rumeng, then as long as you are not a child, you will remember her face.
The character played an unwilling songstress who is dying from the starvation of poverty. In order to fully become her character and play her role to the fullest, Han Feixu lost close to 15 pounds to look the part. Her entire body was very thin then and from just a glance, one could tell that she was very malnourished. That skinny frame yet attractive face left an impression on the audience and even now they still remembered. Now Han Feixu was back to her normal weight and after giving birth her breasts have naturally become larger and her waist has become thinner. Her entire persona has become more charming and sexy so it was naturally difficult for the netizens to recognize her as the once starving songstress.
Han Feixu was rather stunned by all this. This was her first time seeing her influence as an actress, she didn’t know what to make of it.
Ye Mingxin sat beside her and frowned at the Weibo comments. After a while, Liang Zhu called her.
As soon as the phone connected, Liang Zhu’s devilish laughter could be heard, “Hahahaha! Good job, you did a very good job! How did you know I was worried about finding you exposure for your comeback? Now, look at you! With this, people will definitely remember you! I bought some of the hot searches and now in just an hour, you’re already in eleventh in the most trending! We can’t let it go too high though or else people will see through our tricks.”
For a comeback, one does not need to be too famous too quickly, or else that will only leave a black stain on Han Feixu’s history. Although it is popular nowadays to become famous through scandals and other illegal activities, based on Han Fiexu’s temperament, this was most efficiently not a suitable route.
This, however, was the best way to make a comeback. Gain some traction by borrowing someone else’s fame, earn the people’s attention, and then leave an impression, but not too deep of an impression, on them.
Next, she’ll need to strike while the iron is hot and let everyone know that Han Feixu is returning to China’s entertainment circle and making a comeback.
Han Feixu was shocked, “You bought hot searches? Can you buy hot searches?”
“How else do you expect this to happen? Do you think you can become trending without buying some?”
When Liang Zhu gets excited, she tends to ramble, “We need to get you to sign some contracts and get some scripts right away. Aiya, I really want to thank Shi Xi for his hard work. If he hadn’t found such a troublesome mistress this scandal would have never made the front pages. But it’ll be a little difficult to find work with a famous director, so you’ll only be able to play a supporting role for now. Even if your starting point may be high, if you work in a big production, your role might not be that good. How about this, I’ll look for a movie that allows you to play the leading role. How about a commercial film? Romantic tragedies have been really popular lately! But the movies tend to release too slowly….how about a TV series? Online TV shows release way faster, but only a few of them are actually good so one must choose carefully…..” (T/N: Commercial films are made for mass appeal and for all ages for entertainment. It’s a broad term for a film that is targeted towards making a profit rather than making a good film or a piece of art. Usually, they have big actresses and actors play them to gain more recognition.)
Liang Zhu had a tendency to prattle on and on for hours and seeing that she was going to continue talking, Han Feixu hurriedly stopped her, “But Liang-jie, I don’t want to make a comeback until my memory is restored….”
Liang Zhu went silent.
Han Feixu blinked and looked at Ye Mingxin next to him. Seeing her gaze, Ye Mingxin whispered, “Pull the phone away from your ear.”
Han Feixu was puzzled by that but still did as she was told.
“HAN! FEI! XU!!!!”
The deafening sound of a lion’s roar sounded out and the fingers around her phone went numb.
“Do you have amnesia or are you a coward? Do you want to miss out on such a good opportunity?! The pie has literally fallen from the sky for you and refused to hit anyone else but you, yet you don’t wish to eat it?! Are you worthy of the helpless old lady who got beaten up for you and given you this chance? Are you worthy of Shi Xi who has worked so hard to cheat and present this opportunity to you? Are you worthy of that mistress who has been sent to jail? Most importantly, are you worthy of me who has slaved away to buy the hot searches for you? In order to buy those hot searches, I had to ship my packages late today and will be forced to make a lot less than usual!!”
“….But I don’t know anything about acting, I haven’t learned a thing!” Han Fiexu felt helpless. She understood that she should get back to work, after all, she was in her early twenties and had a child to raise. She can’t always stay at home and become isolated from society. She can’t give Yiyi the wrong impression that an adult can do nothing and still live comfortably. What kind of role model is that?
But she doesn’t know anything about acting, let alone networking with others. She doesn’t know what a film crew looks like and how they work, how can she accept a script under these circumstances?
Liang Zhu went silent again like she had suffered an internal injury, “You were only 18-years-old when you acted in?Blossoming Dreams?. You had just graduated from high school at the time. Weren’t you just as clueless about acting back then? You must know, about seven-tenths of acting is based on talent and the last three-tenths is based on hard work. You were good enough then, so why can’t you do it now?”
Han Feixu’s had a look of enlightenment on her face, “You’re right.”
Liang Zhu wanted to vomit blood.
“The one-week deadline has passed. Come to the company tomorrow. From tomorrow on, you will become the actress Han Feixu. You have to remember what position you’re in at all times, got it? For the sake of custody and your divorce, you have to fight, fight, fight! The light is right in front of you, you must grasp it! Go, go, go!” (T/N: The last part in italics was written in English in the raw text)
Then she hung up.
Han Feixu silently looked down at her phone and then looked at Ye Mingxin who was listening the entire time.
She chuckled twice, “Looks like I’m having a comeback.”
Ye Mingxin wasn’t going to stop her, even if she didn’t want Han Feixu making a comeback. If she returned to the entertainment industry, Han Feixu was bound to meet people who knew her in the past, including some people she never wanted Han Feixu to ever meet again. However, this was something beyond her control. She wanted to take advantage of Han Feixu’s amnesia to win her back, but she had not thought of completely burying the past. She had no right to hide Han Feixu’s past from her.
Ye Mingxin nodded, “I heard everything. This is fine as well. In the future, when you re-enter the industry, I can take care of you.”
No need….. Han Feixu thought.
Han Feixu still treated Ye Mingxin like a stranger and was very polite towards her. She felt like they were neither relatives nor friends and even if they have a secret marriage that existed in name, she didn’t need the other person to take care of her like this. She felt like Ye Mignxin’s sense of responsibility was just too strong.
If Ye Mingxin knew what she was thinking, she would probably vomit blood from all the internal injuries.
Han Feixu has a Weibo, but she hasn’t logged in for six years. Liang Zhu sent the account password to her and told her to post something on it. She even had all the words written out for Han Feixu to post.
——I’ve just returned to China, thank you for everyone’s concern. I will be more careful in the future and try not to accidentally get in front of the camera again~ [tongue out emoji]—
Liang Zhu didn’t have a selfie of her and asked Han Feixu to take a selfie and post it on Weibo. So Han Feixu took a photo and posted it. Then she looked at her number of followers.
Only 300,000. So little.
What she didn’t know was that although there were only 300,000 followers, they were all true fans. When she signed up for Weibo, she hadn’t bought any fake followers aka “zombie fans.” Every single one of her fans was real, live humans. Then she disappeared. Therefore, all these followers she had now were her true fans. They didn’t know where else to find her and could only use Weibo to feel connected to her and hope that one day this account can be revived.
And was Han Feixu revived today? Indeed she was.
A lot of comments and likes poured in at once and before she could even reply to her fans’ joy and happiness, she saw a comment from a certain brainless fangirl.
The Way of Xi: “So much hype, don’t look so unsightly. You stepped on our Xixi to gain this fame, are you going to step on your mother next? You want to become famous, are you crazy? I hope that one day you get caught cheating and then stepped on by a bunch of people who want to become famous from your misery. Hope you fall apart and your whole family follows you to death. When the time comes, let’s see if you can keep up your smile.”
Han Feixu started at the words “hope that one day you get caught cheating” and was silent for about three seconds before she clicked on the reply button, typed out a few words, and then sent it out. The page was then refreshed.
Meanwhile, Liang Zhu who was packing up at home and paying attention to the development of the situation had a heart attack when she saw Han Feixu’s reply.
Han Feixu’s reply was: “Rebound. Beat it.”
(T/N: Rebound here is slang for “right back at you” and basically flinging the insult back at the other person. Hence “rebound’.)
