I woke up to find I have a child - Chapter 48
The awkwardness on Ye MingAn’s face was overwhelming and her stiff expression was obvious. She was the complete opposite of her cousin having clearly not inherited her cousin’s talent for acting.
She hesitated for just a moment before smiling awkwardly, “You guys should keep chatting. I’m going to see what Siyan is doing.”
Chang Siyan is her fiance, and knowing this, the young girl beside her immediately started teasing, “Aiya, you two have only been apart for a few minutes, and your longing for him is already overflowing like a flooded river?”
Ye MingAn’s smile was on the verge of collapsing in front of the teasing and Han Fexius’s curious stare from the sidelines, “Stop with the nonsense. I’m leaving first.”
Han Feixu felt speechless as she watched Ye MingAn’s fleeing back. They’ve only argued a few times, right? And it was supposed to be over four years ago? So there should be no need for MingAn to feel that guilty and run away so fast, right?
After giving her greetings to the future bride, Han Feixu raised her chin to search for her Second Aunt and Uncle. Once she finds them, she can give them her red envelopes and her mission will be halfway done. However, even after searching for a long time, the people in question were nowhere to be found.
She walked through the crowded venue, taking a glass of wine from the tray of a waiter rushing by. She was so focused on her search that she didn’t notice the unknown object right outside her line of sight.
So when she bumped into a child’s arm, Han Feixu was startled and looked down in a hurry. Then she froze.
This kid…looked a little familiar….
The child she bumped into was a little boy. The boy was wearing a child-sized tuxedo and holding a plate full of cake in his hand. However, now that cake was spilled all over the floor. The waiter hurried over to clean it up and a few guests turned their heads at the commotion before murmuring quietly among themselves.
—-She’s even a celebrity, to bump into her, so reckless.
Han Feixu thought they were talking about herself. After all, she was the one who bumped into the child and she’s the adult in the situation. Furthermore, looking at the depressed and sad look on the child’s face, her inattentive action must have hurt the child a lot.
She scrambled her brain for a memory, frustrated that she couldn’t remember the child’s name. She squatted down and was about to apologize when the little boy spoke up first, “I didn’t mean to do that, Auntie Feixu.”
Auntie…Feixu??
Han Feixu’s eyes widened. She finally remembered who this child was. He is Ye MingYong*’s son, Ye Pinlan! (T/N: *Ye MingYong is Ye MingAn’s twin brother, in other words, another cousin of our female lead, Ye Mingxin)
For a moment, Han Feixu was jubilant at finally remembering a correct answer. Then that moment passed, and she finally realized people around her were pointing at them.
Han Feixu hesitated and then grabbed Ye Pinlan’s little hand, “Pinlan, come with me. Auntie will help you wash your hands.”
Ye Pinlan was a little frightened. He didn’t know Han Feixu that well, and the last time he saw her was almost half a year ago. So he felt a little uncomfortable to be suddenly dragged by her. However, Han Feixu’s hand was very warm and she was gentle, yet determined as she dragged him to the bathroom. Furthermore, the eyes that were focused on him have all shifted to Han Feixu.
With those unfamiliar and mocking gazes now off of him, the oppressive pressure had lifted and he felt much better.
Han Feixu noticed the child’s face relaxing from the corner of her eye and couldn’t help sighing inwardly.
Ye Pinlan was one of Yiyi’s playmates when she stayed at her great-grandfather’s house. The first great-grandson of the Ye family, he has just turned eight this year and is also known as the most embarrassing existence in the Ye family.
As mentioned earlier, Ye MingYong and Ye MingAn are twins, both only twenty-five years old, and Ye Pinlan is eight years old. If you do the math, this means that Ye MingYong had a child when he was seventeen. Ye Mingxin told her that Ye MingYong was the most hopeless person in this family. He doesn’t have a job and only knows how to flirt with female celebrities. He loved to show off his family’s wealth in front of his friends and friends and then he had sex with a twenty-four-year-old woman at the age of sixteen. That woman wasn’t a good person either. After she became pregnant, she didn’t tell the Ye family, and she secretly went abroad to give birth to the child before bringing the child to their doorstep to extort a lot of money from the Ye family.
When the Ye family’s great-grandfather found out, he almost died of anger and had to stay in the ICU for three days. In the end, they had no choice but to give the woman the money she asked for, but in return, the Ye family demanded she cut off her relationship with her child and never appear in front of her child again. The woman readily agreed and enthusiastically signed her name on the contract. With the money in her hands, she left without taking a second look at her son.
After this incident, everyone in the Ye family felt as if they had swallowed a fly alive, a disgusting and smelly fly, one they couldn’t spit out.
This was basically a porcelain scam*, but usually, when the “victim” got the money the other party would no longer have anything whatsoever to do with the “victim”. Yet this scammer left them a souvenir, in the form of Ye Pinlan. Anytime Ye MingYong saw Ye Pinlan, he would think of those horrible times and so he simply pawned off his child to his parents and refused to ever go back home. His parents were also horrible people and the Second Uncle, Ye Junqian, is just an older and more sly version of Ye MingYong. This Second Uncle has a lot of mistresses himself and who knows how many illegitimate children. Meanwhile, Second Aunt Cheng Xiaoli is simply a wealthy version of a shrew. Selfish, narcissistic, arrogant, unreasonable, and someone who spoils their own children but hates others. To sum it up, she has all of the flaws a monster mother-in-law has.
Just what kind of influence could people like that bring on an innocent child? And just like Ye MingYong, the two didn’t want to recognize Ye Pinlan’s existence at all as they felt he was a stain and an embarrassment to the family. Usually, they kept him at home or left him at the great-grandfather’s house, leaving his care up to the housekeeper instead.
However, today is Ye MingAn’s engagement party. Everyone here knows about Ye MingYong’s illegitimate son that was raised in isolation. If he didn’t make an appearance, it would lead to more rumors so Second Uncle and Aunt had no choice but to bring him out.
An adult had made the mistake of bumping into him but it was the child who shouldered the blame. What kind of nonsense is this?
Yiyi said she liked this cousin of hers very much. When she was at her great-grandfather’s house, Ye Pinlan would accompany her. He would teach her how to read and play games with her. Although Yan Yuerong, Ye Mingxin’s mother, didn’t like Ye Pinlan very much, she didn’t stop the children from getting along. Yiyi is still young and doesn’t understand what an illegitimate child is or what wedlock means. She only knew Ye Pinlan as an older brother who would protect and stay with her. So she liked this “big brother” of hers very much.
She took Ye Pinlan to the bathroom lounge and Ye Pinlan took the initiative to walk over to the sink. With a straight back, he meticulously washed his hands before taking a square-shaped cloth out of his pocket to wipe his hands. He was obedient and quiet as he turned around and looked up at Han Feixu, “Auntie Feixu, I’m done.”
The little boy is very handsome, with a nice well-rounded face save for his slightly protruding chin. He has a pair of monolids, with long and clean eyelashes. He stared at Han Feixu with a serious and calm gaze. At first glance, one would say this is not a gaze a child should have but once you looked carefully, one could see he was trying very hard to be serious. He was simply pretending to be an adult to try and hide his immaturity and weakness.
Han Feixu couldn’t hold back, she stretched out her hand and ruffled his hair a few times until it turned into a bird’s nest. When Han Feixu’s hands finally stopped, Ye Pinlan looked at her in surprise and helplessness and did not dare to be angry or say anything.
Such a cute and helpless child could not be resisted, and Han Feixu immediately bent down and placed her hands on both of his cheeks, squeezing them until he was making a fish-face, “Ahhhhh, you’re so cute!”
Ye Pinlan seldom received any compliment and his face turned red as he said “A-Aunite Fei….”
Han Feixu had never seen a shy expression on Yiyi’s face. She was raised by Han Feixu and Ye Ming to be overly confident. If someone praised her as being cute, she wouldn’t blush, she would just nod her head happily and say, “I know I am very cute! You are also very cute, you can almost match up to me!”
Who knows where she got this confidence from = =
Han Feixu let him go and rubbed his face in consolation, “Sorry, did I hurt you?”
Ye Pinlan shook his head gently, “No.”
There was a watery happiness in his eyes. Children need to interact with adults at this age, but the adults in his family were all very cold towards him, even his great-grandmother who liked him the most. Sometimes when her mind was clear she would look at his figure and sigh silently.
So although he didn’t know why Han Feixu was acting like this, he liked what she was doing very much.
Han Feixu laughed as she looked into his eyes and squatted down to whisper in his ear, “You are nothing like your father.
Ye Pinlan lowered his face and pursed his lips at the mention of his father. At this, Han Feixu put a finger against his forehead and made him raise his face to look at her, “I’m serious. You are completely different from them. You know that I am Yiyi’s mother, right?”
Ye Pinlan nodded.
“But do you know that I can also read someone’s fortune just from their face?”
Ye Pinlan was stunned for a second, then shook his head like a rattle.
Han Feixu gave him a mysterious smile, “It’s to be expected that you don’t know because I have only told you this secret. I can see that in your future you will be like my Yiyi, you will grow up to become a powerful person. When you grow up, you will be the complete opposite of your father. A good and righteous person. Do you believe what I have foretold?”
This time, Ye Pinlan didn’t shake his head or nod, but his expression told Han Feixu that he believed anything she said.
This child was too easy to deceive…
Han Feixu held back a mischievous smile and patted the top of his head, “Study hard and improve yourself every day. When you become powerful, don’t forget our Yiyi.”
Ye Pinlan showed his first smile after hearing that, a beautiful smile that made Han Feixu feel as if she had spotted a living little angel.
“Don’t worry Auntie, I will always take care of my little meimei.”
Han Feixu only wanted to laugh as the boy made a serious promise with a serious face. She didn’t take his words to heart, and in fact, had teased him just now on a whim. However, she never knew that this casual conversation would one day come true in the future.
She stood up and walked Ye Pinlan back to the venue, before returning to the bathroom lounge to wash her hands as well.
After that, the entire party went rather smoothly. She finally found Ye Junqian and his wife Cheng Xiaoli. When Ye Junqian saw her, his expression revealed nothing, almost like her being here didn’t matter. Meanwhile, Cheng Xiaoli almost rolled her eyes as she accepted the red envelope prepared by Ye Mingxin. She even sneered slightly as she said,
“Only one person has come from your side of the family, and it is the one most distant in blood with the Ye family too. What do you mean by this? I know Elder Brother and Elder Sister-in-law don’t want to see us, but they couldn’t possibly want to ridicule us as well by doing this?”
In Han Feixu’s hand is a thin red envelope that contains a check. For the first two engagement parties, Ye Mingxin gave them houses and antiques. This time she didn’t bother preparing and sent over some money instead.
Han Feixu stared at Cheng Xiaoli expressionlessly, while a burst of emotions burst in her heart.
Memories of a certain New Year’s Eve rushed into her brain. Cheng Xiaoli had mocked Han Feixu with a sharp and poisonous tongue in front of the whole family, but now only did Han Feixu refute every one of her words, she did so without swearing nor directly scolding her. Instead, she pointed out every single one of her shortcomings and angered Cheng Xiaoli to the point that she almost flipped over the table. All of the family just stared at her, and her two children, MingAn and MingYong, acted like a pair of deaf and mute children as they didn’t say a word to help their mother.
What embarrassed her the most was after Ye Mingxin and Han Feixu went home. She was scolded by her father-in-law and even Yan Yuerong reprimanded her a few times.
She was beyond angered and annoyed at the time. So seeing Han Fiexu come by herself today, she couldn’t hold back. Although her expression didn’t change on the surface, her heart was a mess. They stood in the center of the room, and within two meters of them, there was silence after she spoke those words. Her daughter, MingAn, stood beside her but acted like a tortoise as she shrank back from her mother.
After a brief silence, Cheng Xiaoli stretched out her hand to receive the envelope but she barely touched it when Han Feixu withdrew her own hand.
Her voice rose an octave immediately, “Han Feixu, what is the meaning of this?!”
Han Feixu held the red envelope, gently brushing the nonexistent crumbs off of it, which happened to be the part where Cheng Xiaoli touched it. “Didn’t you say that I’m here to ridicule you? Then you should treat me as if I don’t exist and if I don’t exist then I can’t give you this red envelope. How can someone who doesn’t exist give you a red envelope?”
She smiled and placed the red envelope back into her bag and then said to Cheng Xiaoli, “Second Aunt, some words are better off just being known but not said. You see, now that the words have come out, both sides have lost face. But since I am young and a “distant” outsider, I don’t particularly care about any of this. But you as an elder should maintain your reputation. Ah, no, I’ve forgotten, do you even care about your face?”
Cheng Xiaoli’s face burned red and she looked around for help only to see that no one dared to meet her eyes. She shouted angrily, “Han Feixu, who are you to lecture me? You’re not even divorced yet and you dare to treat me like this. You are but a delusional sparrow who wants to climb–”
Before she could finish her next words, her voice suddenly fell silent as her face paled at the person behind her.
Han Feixu narrowed her eyes and turned around to find Jiang Lingyan walking towards her.
Jiang Lingyan has been in Shanghai for the filming of the variety show and so she attended the party on behalf of the Jiang family. However, when she entered she was faced with the aggressive yelling of Cheng Xiaoli. She of course knew the personality of Ye Mngxin’s second aunt and so hurriedly took a few steps towards them. Sure enough, Cheng Xiaoli fell silent as she walked over.
In Jiang Lingyan’s hand was a small box, probably a piece of jewelry or a pair of car keys. She glanced at Cheng Xiaoli and Ye MingAn without saying a word before asking Han Feixu directly, “What’s the matter?”
With outsiders around them, Han Feixu didn’t say anything revealing. Her voice was only a little cold as she said, “It’s nothing. I’m just leaving first, as I, a lowly sparrow, am blocking the shining halos of the phoenixes present.”
After speaking, she turned towards Cheng Xiaoli, scanning her from top to bottom before saying in a quiet whisper that only she could hear, “Although I don’t know if it’s a phoenix or a crow, as the bad luck I’ve touched today probably can’t be washed off for 7-8 days.”
“You!–” Cheng Xiaoli took two steps forward angrily, but was held back by Ye MingAn. Jiang Lingyan frowned and glanced at the mother-daughter pair, then turned around and went after Han Feixu. The gift box in her hand went with her.
She followed Han Feixu out of the crowd and after Han Feixu gave her a summary of what happened, she snorted softly, “She has always been like that. I heard she’s from a family of upstart merchants. However, I didn’t expect that even after all these years she still hasn’t gotten rid of her common shrew aura.”
Jiang Lingyan looked at Han Feixu through her pale-gold glasses and gave her a thumbs-up, “You’re awesome. I can never attack like that, don’t you feel quite refreshed after winning back there?”
Han Feixu placed her stuff inside her bag and said, “It’s alright. If you haven’t arrived, I would’ve done something even more refreshing. I’m leaving now, if I stay any longer I’m afraid I’ll enter the headlines again.”
Jiang Lingyan frowned, “You’re leaving? But the paparazzi can’t come in here, so they won’t be able to find out about your relationship with Ye Mingxin.”
Han Feixu raised her head and looked at her seriously, “Not that kind of headline. No, I’m afraid I’ll enter the trending searches with a headline about a female star beating up an old lady.”
Jiang Lingyan: “…..”
Before leaving, Han Feixu went to the bathroom lounge one more time.
She angrily washed her hands as she tried to wash away her last bits of discomfort. She raised her head and inspected her makeup.
As she carefully inspected her eyeliner, she noticed a strange man behind her in the mirror.
The man met her gaze and smiled expressionlessly, “Well if it isn’t Han Feixu.”
Han Feixu turned around but didn’t speak. She wasn’t sure if she knew this person, so she didn’t dare to speak first, but stared definitely at him.
The lights of the bathroom sink were too bright so the other party stepped back and waved his hand, “Come over here and stop blocking others from washing their hands.”
Seeing his informal attitude, Han Feixu thought they knew each other and so she walked over.
Meanwhile, the man saw that she was so obedient and not reserved at all, and felt even more contempt in his heart. Just another whore, flash a little money and they’ll come.
Although his heart was full of contempt, the smile on his face only deepened. He turned and led the way, so Han Feixu couldn’t see the obscene expression on his face.
Once they arrived in a more quiet area, he stopped and turned to face her. Han Feixu frowned, “What do you want?”
Ah, still playing dumb.
He leaned against the wall and asked with a careless smile, “I’ve heard that you had an affair with Yin Jiahe. You’re quite powerful. You even dare to touch Yu Tingxue’s people, are you not afraid the Yu family will trouble you?”
Han Feixu frown deepened, “I have nothing to do with her.”
“Haha, stop playing.” He took two steps forward, and Han Feixu immediately took two steps back. She kept her distance, and the man’s face was full of ridicule as he approached, “A bit*h trying to act righteous, who doesn’t know that you are just a slut. I’ve been after Yin Jiahe for so long, but unfortunately, she’s always sticking to that Yu Tingxue. I’ve never had the chance to attack and yet you have. Say, why don’t you come with me for one night? How does 200,000 yuan sound?”
Han Feixu’s expression changed immediately. She raised her hand angrily, she’s going to kill this rude pervert! But before she could, someone moved faster than her.
“Fu*k!”
A kick hit in from behind, right in a certain sensitive part. Han Feixu turned around in shock but before she could make out her rescuer’s face clearly, the man rushed forward and punched the pervert in the face. The pervert went down but tried to get back up. Seeing that the pervert was trying to get back up, the man stepped on him and held the screaming pervert down.
The venue soon grew chaotic as Han Feixu watched with wide eyes at the two tussling. She couldn’t see the man’s face, only that he was very tall. People gathered around them, a few trying to pull them apart only to get beaten as well. The one getting beaten kept crying for help, while the one punching fiercely said, “Let go of me! If I don’t kill this idiot today, then my last name isn’t Ye!”
Han Feixu finally was able to see this man’s face. The face had five points similar to Ye Mingxin’s. Han Feixu hurried over and tried to stop them, “Stop hitting, stop punishing! If you hit him anymore, you’ll be sent to prison for murder!”
Meanwhile, Ye MingAn ran over in a panic, “Cousin?? What’s going on?!”
More and more people surrounded them, and Ye MingDe knew that he could no longer touch the man without getting in trouble. He shrugged off the people holding him down as he looked up at Ye MingAn with a grim expression, “You should ask him! This trash is Chang Siyan’s younger brother! Do you still want to marry Chang Siyan? Heh, then I wish you good luck!”
Ye MingAn was mocked until her face went red and then white. She turned to look at the person who was beaten, but his face was swollen and he was mumbling incoherently. MingAn stood in the middle, not knowing what to do and which side to be on.
Both Ye MingDe and Han Feixu felt their hearts grow cold at her inaction. Ye MingDe is a cousin she grew up with and the other party is her fiance’s younger brother. The two probably have never spoken more than a few words to each other, yet MingAn was visibly more biased toward a stranger than her own family.
Sure enough, she finally decided to run up to the person who was beaten. Seeing this, Han Feixu pulled Ye Mingde up and said, “Let’s go, let’s go. The skin on your hands is broken, we should hurry up and go to the hospital to get a tetanus shot.”
Everyone else: “….”
If you’re going to find an excuse, at least try to find a good one. By the time you reach the hospital, that small wound will have already healed up, alright?!!
Han Feixu walked as fast as she could, not letting anyone stop her. No one actually wanted to stop her, but Ye Mingde was the most reluctant person, “Sister! Let me go, half of his face is still fine, I have to beat up that half of his face until it swells up too!”
Han Feixu ignored him, and soon, the two disappeared in the elevator, and the rest of the melon seed-eating crowd looked at each other.
Melon-seed eater A: “I seem to have heard Ye Mingde call Han Feixu ‘Sister’ just now, are they related?”
Melon-seed eater B: “No, that can’t be right. I’ve never heard of a relative surnamed Han in the Ye family?”
Leaving behind the confused crowd, Han Feixu sent a text to Zhong Yuanyuan and Wei Xun immediately ran out to meet them. When he saw Ye MingDe, he immediately bowed, “Young Master.”
Ye MingDe hummed in response. Wei Xun straightened his waist, and showed them the way, “Boss, this way.”
Ye MingDe frowned at Wei Xun’s title for Han Feixu, “Sister, why does he call you Boss?”
Han Feixu explained hastily, “It’s a job requirement.”
Ye MingDe nodded and then remembered his anger suddenly. He was only quiet for two seconds before shouting angrily again, “Why did you drag me away? You should have let me beat that fu*king idiot to death! If I don’t beat him up until he’s no longer human then I’m the fu*king idiot!”
Han Feixu wanted to hit him, “Do you want to be sent to prison?! If I haven’t dragged you away, with so many people as witnesses, even if you haven’t hit him first, he could sue you! What will you do then?”
Ye MingDe narrowed his eyes arrogantly, “He dares?!! If he tries to sue me, I’ll beat up his lawyer!”
Han Feixu fell silent as she suddenly remembered what Ye Mingxin said when she introduced her brother.
“He has very strong morals. Likes to play games, but also studies well, respects his elders, and has many good friends. He always goes out with a bunch of friends.” After a few more compliments, Ye Mingxin suddenly fell silent, as if thinking about how she should word this, “However he is a bit….how to say….stubborn? Ah, I know, he is like the second-hand version of the main protagonist in Young and Dangerous. Yes, that is the most defining trait of my little brother.” (T/N: Young and Dangerous is a film series about hot-headed gangsters in Hong Kong, click the link for more)
In hindsight, Ye Mingxin’s ability to generalize is quite strong = =
