I'm Not the Young Lady's Dream Girl - [Vol. 1] Chapter 38
[Vol. 1] Chapter 38: Entering the Ruins
“Haah—” Yinyue yawned, struggling to climb out of bed.
Outside the tent, there was a noisy crowd, early in the morning.
Couldn’t they just be quieter? Yinyue felt the urge to punch someone.
Stepping outside the tent, the other students were busy packing their belongings, excited for today’s adventure. They had woken up early to prepare for the journey to the ruins.
Yinyue glanced at the still-rising sun.
These guys were too excited, it wasn’t even daylight yet, and they were already packing. They weren’t this enthusiastic even when they were rushing for food in the cafeteria.
Returning to the tent, Yinyue checked the clock, there was still about three and a half hours before departure. No need to rush, he could lie down again for a while. So, Yinyue continued to lounge in the tent for another half hour.
“Brother Yue! Brother Yue! Are you in there?” Wang Shaojun’s voice came from outside the tent.
Once again, Yinyue crawled out of bed. His frustration boiling over, he really wanted to punch someone.
Yinyue opened the tent flap, stomping out angrily. Wang Shaojun quickly hid behind Xia Qi’er.
“Brother Xia, protect me!” Wang Shaojun pleaded.
Xia Qi’er shrugged, indicating that he wasn’t getting involved. Wang Shaojun knew Yinyue was grumpy in the mornings but still insisted on waking him up whenever he was asleep. He was a master of courting disaster.
“Brother Xia, you’re leaving me to my fate, it breaks my heart.”
Wang Shaojun ran off as fast as he could, realizing that if Xia Qi’er wouldn’t help, he was on his own.
But it was clear that Wang Shaojun overestimated his running speed. He was quickly caught by Yinyue and received a thorough beating.
“Feels much better,” Yinyue clapped his hands, feeling a bit better.
“Um, Yinyue, we came to ask you to join our team,” Xia Qi’er explained their reason for visiting.
This was the reason they woke me up so early? Oh well, Yinyue didn’t feel like saying much anymore.
“The intructor said that at least three people must travel together to enter the ruins, and we happen to have three people, so we can team up and go in together,” Xia Qi’er continued.
“When did he say that? Why wasn’t I informed?” Yinyue didn’t recall hearing about it.
“He mentioned it yesterday in the car. You weren’t sleeping in the car, were you?”
Yinyue thought back for a moment, ‘So it was that time, right?’
Although he didn’t sleep in the car yesterday, it was actually about the same.
After a moment of consideration, Yinyue quickly agreed.
“Could one of you help me up?” Wang Shaojun, clutching his buttocks, asked Yinyue and Xia Qi’er.
But neither of them paid attention to him. Wang Shaojun felt very sad, it seemed like the friendship ship in the dormitory was capsizing. It was too distressing, this brotherhood couldn’t go on.
After a nap, Yinyue started packing. For Yinyue, who had experience as a maid, this was a piece of cake, and he soon got his luggage sorted. Yinyue and his group arrived at the gathering point.
“Please, students, line up in order and check if you have all your belongings. Don’t stand around in a mess,” an instructor shouted through a megaphone in front of the city wall’s gate.
Once the intructors confirmed that the numbers were correct, they went to communicate with the border guards to allow passage.
Accompanied by the booming sound of drums, the gate slowly opened, and the students began to boil with excitement, orderly walking out of the gate.
Outside the gate, Yinyue looked at the endless wasteland, quite different from the safe zone. Here, Yinyue felt no signs of life but rather an atmosphere of the apocalypse. If it weren’t for the border of the safe zone behind them, Yinyue might have thought he had traveled to the end of the world.
At that moment, the thunderous sound of vehicles came from the distance, and hundreds of armored vehicles were approaching them. It seemed that these were the vehicles coming to transport them. After all, they couldn’t walk to the ruins, could they? It would take too long.
Yinyue didn’t really care, but those conducting the ritual couldn’t wait. They just wanted to gather the offerings as quickly as possible to bring their deity into the matter.
“Brother Yue, this car is so cool! I never thought I’d get to ride in such a badass vehicle. If only they’d let me drive,” Wang Shaojun remarked from the side.
“Let you drive? I’d rather jump off the car. That way, my chances of survival would be higher.”
Yinyue wondered how Wang Shaojun, a guy who hadn’t even gotten his driver’s license, dared to say such a thing.
“What are you talking about? I’ve driven before. The bumper cars at the amusement park count as driving, right?”
Yinyue didn’t say anything, just found an armored vehicle and got in, followed closely by Xia Qi’er.
“Hey, you two, wait for me!”
Wang Shaojun, sitting in the armored vehicle, kept vomiting. He felt terrible, like he was going to die.
Clutching his head, Wang Shaojun wondered why he was feeling carsick. Was it because this was an armored vehicle, different from what he was used to? Feeling dizzy, Wang Shaojun quickly passed out.
“Yinyue, look at this Shaojun, what a loser. We haven’t even been on the road for long, and he’s already passed out.”
Yinyue looked at the unconscious Wang Shaojun, realizing that his condition must be related to his ability, sensing imminent danger and putting a heavy strain on his body.
While Xia Qi’er wasn’t paying attention, Yinyue used his ability to heal Wang Shaojun. It was all he could do now, he hoped it would help him feel better.
After several hours of travel, they finally reached their destination.
This was a recently discovered ruin. After its discovery, the vice dean quickly bought the entire ruin for a hefty sum. Yinyue couldn’t help but sigh, having money was really nice. But this confirmed Yinyue’s suspicion, there was something wrong with this ruin.
“Please, students, quickly find your teams. No one is allowed to act alone. Do you understand?”
Before the entrance to the ruins, the academy intructors shouted at the students through a megaphone.
“Are you okay? Otherwise, you can rest here for a while,” Yinyue pointed to Wang Shaojun beside him.
“What a joke! I haven’t even warmed up yet.”
Wang Shaojun waved his fists, indicating he could take on ten people. Seeing this, Yinyue didn’t bother to stop him. He was so eager to show off, and there was nothing Yinyue could do about it.
“Oh, by the way… your hat.”
Yinyue noticed the hat on top of Wang Shaojun’s head after he got off the car.
“You mean this? I found it in the dormitory. Isn’t it cool?”
Wang Shaojun began posing continuously, leaving Yinyue and Xia Qi’er speechless. How could he shamelessly strike such eye-catching poses?
Yinyue had been wondering where Zhang Wenze’s favorite hat had gone. Now he knew, it had been taken by Wang Shaojun.
After some time with the vanguard entering the ruins, Yinyue and the others also entered.
As they ventured deeper, Yinyue’s group saw light ahead, indicating they were about to enter the ruins and had to pass through that halo of light.
After passing through the halo, they finally reached the interior of the ruins. The environment had undergone a drastic change, each ruin contained an independent space.
What lay before Yinyue now was a dilapidated city, overgrown with unfamiliar plants on the city walls, gates broken open, signs of battle around, and the bodies of mutant beasts.
Near the bodies of the mutant beasts were students watching. It seemed that the vanguard had already gone in.
“Brother Yue, maybe we should stay outside.”
Seeing the mutant beasts, Wang Shaojun’s legs began to tremble, and his danger sense told him not to enter the city, or something bad would happen.
“Sorry, I have a reason to go in.”
Yinyue didn’t stop because of Wang Shaojun’s words. He had to go in. Yinyue walked through the gate. If his young lady and mother had already entered, how could he stay outside?
Inside the city, there were many dilapidated houses, feeling like they could collapse at any moment. Some houses had indeed turned into ruins.
The ground was full of cracks and many craters, one could easily fall in. Yinyue picked up a helmet from the ground, which had a large hole in it, indicating that there had been a fierce battle here.
“Brother Yue, why are you in such a hurry? Shouldn’t we wait for the people ahead to deal with the danger before we go in?”
At this moment, Wang Shaojun and Xia Qi’er caught up. They didn’t want anything unexpected to happen to Yinyue.
*Boom!*
A loud noise nearby caught their attention. They turned to see a giant lizard chasing a group of students, and they were heading in their direction.
“That’s strange. Where are the intructors? There should be intructors nearby, logically,” Xia Qi’er noticed something was amiss. They hadn’t seen any of the academy’s intructors since entering.
“They’re probably brainwashed,” Yinyue said.
“What are you talking about, Yinyue?” Xia Qi’er’s attention was drawn to Yinyue’s words.
“Nothing. Let’s deal with that mutant beast first.”
The mutant beast had caught up to the students and trapped them in an alley, leaving them trembling in fear and forgetting the combat techniques taught by their intructors.
Yinyue summoned his bow and arrow, aimed at the lizard’s eye, and a beam of light shot out, directly hitting the lizard’s eye.
It let out a painful cry, then turned to face Yinyue and started crawling towards them again.
With the lizard distracted, the students struggled to their feet and fled.
Yinyue’s actions had completely angered the lizard, drawing all its hatred towards him.
“Brother Yue, run! We can’t beat it!” Wang Shaojun shouted at Yinyue.
“Run? Sorry, I don’t plan on running away.”
Yinyue turned his bow into a light sword and charged at the lizard. Wang Shaojun thought Yinyue had gone mad. That mutant beast was obviously a B-rank, something they couldn’t handle. He closed his eyes, not wanting to see Yinyue’s fate.
There was a loud rumble, and the giant lizard fell. Wang Shaojun couldn’t help but open his eyes.
Yinyue was now standing on top of the lizard’s head, while the lizard lay motionless below, foam coming from its mouth. It seemed Yinyue had dealt with it.
Wang Shaojun couldn’t help but rub his eyes, thinking he was seeing things, but the truth told him that everything in front of him was real.
“When did Brother Yue become so strong? Was this guy secretly power-leveling behind our backs?”
