Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear - Chapter 620
Bear-san Beats the Slime
Fina’s hands were trembling as she grabbed my bear clothes.
She was just an eleven-year-old girl, after all. She must have be scared. Besides, she was flying in the sky for the first time. She must have also been afraid of falling.
I conjured a rope with earth magic and wrapped it around Fina and me.
“Yuna Onee-chan?” (Fina)
“With this, we’ll be together even if we fall.” (Yuna)
“No, you can’t do that. If I fall, I’ll fall alone.” (Fina)
“I’m just kidding, it’s just a way to save Fina if she’s about to fall. I’ll save you no matter what.” (Yuna)
“Yuna Onee-chan… yes, I’ll be careful and do my best.” (Fina)
“You two, we are closing in on a magic tool. Get ready.” (Kagali)
As Kagali-san approached the Slime with Fina and me on board, the slime stretched out its tentacles trying to grab us, but Kagali-san slipped past them easily. Fina, behind me, lets out a little scream as Kagali escaped.
“It’s around here.” (Kagali)
Kagali-san’s ears twitched. And as she said, we could see a black box floating inside Slime’s body.
Those ears were useful. I wondered if it was sensing some kind of frequency or magic power.
“That black thing is the magic tool… Does it still work?” (Fina)
“Yes, and it escapes when my magic gets close to it. Then, we’ll do it as I planned. I will use my magic to drive the magic tool to the surface of Slime, and Fina, I want you to be careful and hit it the moment the magic tool is outside of Slime, because it will immediately try to reabsorb the magic tool back in.” (Yuna)
“Yes, I’ll try.” (Fina)
Fina’s grip on my waist tightened.
“It’s okay even if you can’t do it.” (Yuna)
We just have to think of something else if she did fail. There should be other ways to deal with this.
“Uh-huh.” (Fina)
“Okay, then, let’s start.” (Yuna)
Kagali-san flew, keeping the magic tool in clear view. I used my ropes of earth magic from my Bear Puppets to drive the magic tool inside Slime’s body out, which seemed to be like 2 magnets pointed at the same poles making them push each other.
Kagali-san chased after the magic tool, while avoiding Slime’s attack, so I would not lose sight of it.
I drove the magic tool into the Slime’s surface, blocking its escape route.
Fina’s magic was still weak, so we had to be close enough for her to hit it easily.
Kagali-san, perhaps feeling the same way, moves closer to the magic tool to make it easier for Fina to hit the target as if to gauge the timing.
With one last push, my earth magic made the magic tool pop out of the slime.
“Fina!” (Yuna)
Even before my shout, Fina’s small hand released a fist-sized bear-shaped piece of earth magic.
Fina was already preparing herself behind my back as we closed in.
As the magic tool popped out of the Slime, a part of the Slime extended out to try and take the magic tool back.
“Hit it!” (Fina)
Fina shouted.
At the same time that the Slime tried to take in the magic tool, Fina’s bear-shaped earth magic hit the tool.
“Was that no good?” (Fina)
Fina sounded a little sad.
That was her limit, timing-wise.
Almost as soon as it came out of the Slime, it was back inside.
“No, look at it.” (Kagali)
At Kagali-san’s words, we looked at the magic tool.
The magic tool, reabsorbed into the Slime, cracked and started to melt. It seems that Slime had entered through the cracks of the magic tool and melted it from the inside.
It seems that the magic tool was only designed to be protected outside.
“…I did it, Yuna Onee-chan, I did it.” (Fina)
I turned around to see Fina’s happy expression as if the anxiety she had felt earlier had vanished.
“Yeah, it was perfect.” (Yuna)
“Well done.” (Kagali)
“That’s because Yuna Onee-chan and big Kagali Onee-chan made it easy for me to hit the target.” (Fina)
Apparently, the slime was late to notice it as well.
“My magic is slow and less powerful.” (Fina)
“What are you talking about? That’s more than enough. But there’s still more to destroy.” (Yuna)
“Fina, can you continue?” (Kagali)
“Yes, I can.” (Fina)
After the first success, Fina seems to have gotten the timing right, and broke the magic tools with two or three bear-shaped earth spells.
It was going well.
But why a Bear?
“Fina, you seem to have improved in using magic.” (Yuna)
“Umm, I’ve been practicing with light magic, and I was hoping to have an adventure with Yuna Onee-chan someday.” (Fina)
Fina said shyly.
“So that’s what you were thinking about.” (Yuna)
“But Yuna Onee-chan is so strong, I’m not sure if I’d be much of a help…” (Fina)
Her voice changed from back to a sad one again.
“That’s not true. If you were a liability, I wouldn’t have asked you to go out with me in the first place, and even if Fina couldn’t use magic, I’d want you to stay with me…” (Yuna)
I said something embarrassing.
“…Yuna Onee-chan.” (Fina)
“You guys, we’re not flirting on top of me, are you.” (Kagali)
“We’re not flirting!” (Yuna)
“Then, do you know what’s up? We are approaching the next magic tool.” (Kagali)
“Fina, let’s do this!” (Yuna)
“Un!” (Fina)
The magic tool was steadily being destroyed.
At this rate, we can destroy all the magic tools.
Just when I thought so, Kagali-san suddenly changed direction.
“Whoa!” (Kagali)
Fina, who was behind me, lost her balance and fell off.
However, Fina and I were firmly connected by earth magic, so we didn’t fall.
It was a good thing we were connected by earth magic.
“Are you two okay?” (Kagali)
“We’re fine.” (Yuna)
“Un.” (Fina)
“I’m sorry. We were attacked from an unexpected direction, and I was a little late to respond.” (Kagali)
It was a good thing I had prepared insurance to tie Fina and me together.
Insurance was a must.
And then, as we destroyed a few magic tools, I heard Fina’s labored breathing from behind my back.
“Fina?” (Yuna)
“It’s, it’s nothing.” (Fina)
No, you look like you’re in pain.
“You must be low on magic power already. You shouldn’t lie.” (Yuna)
There were still some magic tools left.
I was in my white bear outfit, with more magic output than most people.
Fina had just learned magic and didn’t know how to adjust it properly. Maybe she was putting as much of her magic power into each strike as possible, one strike at a time.
If this was a game, there would be a numerical value of magic power one had, so they would know how much magic power they have left, but there was no such convenient thing in this world.
You have to know the limit by yourself and use magic power while thinking about that. But it was too much to ask of Fina, who had just learned magic.
She should take a break and recover her magic power.
“Kagali-san, let’s go back to the bear house.” (Yuna)
“No, I’m okay. I can still do my best.” (Fina)
“Kagali-san, how many magic tools are there left ?” (Yuna)
Kagali-san’s ears twitched.
“Three.” (Kagali)
“I, I’ll do my best.” (Fina)
No need to overdo it here. After Fina’s magic power recovered, we could continue with no problem.
“Yuna Onee-chan…” (Fina)
“…Just one more time.” (Yuna)
“Yeah.” (Fina)
Kagali-san searched for the magic tool, and I use earth magic to make it pop out of the Slime. Normally, Fina’s magic should have hit the magic tool, but no magic appeared.
Just when I thought it was hopeless.
I heard a sound like a gust of wind, and something passed by me at a tremendous speed.
And before the Slime was able to reabsorb the magic tool, something hit the magic tool.
An arrow pierced the magic tool.
“An arrow?” (Yuna)
I looked behind from the arrow came from and saw Mia on the back of Swaying Bear, holding a bow on top of a pillar I created.
Could it be that Mia was the one who shot that arrow?
Kagali-san carrying us flew to where Mia was.
“Fufu, I hit the target!” (Mia)
Mia was in a good mood.
But seeing her holding the bow while straddling a bear was so surreal.
“Did that arrow just now come from you?” (Yuna)
“When we were observing what you guys were doing, we noticed that Fina was in pain. Carol then told me that Fina was using too much magic, so I asked Swaying Bear to bring us to a place where I could shoot my arrow.” (Mia)
“This place is quite a distance from where we were fighting though.” (Yuna)
It was not within the reach of a normal arrow and was quite a distance away.
“This bow has a wind magic stone and various enchantments added to it, so it can make the arrow fly farther than an ordinary bow.” (Mia)
“My Lady, since you could do that, you should have told them earlier.” (Carol)
“How can I tell you that after listening to Fina? She said she wanted to do something for Yuna. But now that her magic power has run out, it’s a different story. From here on, it’s my job as the Big Sister.” (Mia)
Mia’s puffing out her chest, which she didn’t have.
But she was certainly like a watchful big sister.
“Fina, leave the rest to me.” (Mia)
“…yes.” (Fina)
Fina nodded sadly, bowing her head.
“Don’t look so sad, Fina, you did your best. You might have wanted to do it all on your own, right up to the end. But leave this part to Mia Onee-chan.” (Mia)
“…Yes, Mia Onee-chan, please.” (Fina)
Smiling this time, I asked Mia for help.
“Then, Mia, can leave it to you?” (Yuna)
“I’d like to say leave it to me, but I don’t have that many arrows in my arsenal. How many more magic tools are left?” (Mia)
“Two more, is what I could detect.” (Kagali)
“That’s great. I had three arrows left. I used most of them when we were attacked by the monsters as we came to this town. And well, they don’t work on armored knights. But it’s cool to have just more than enough for a last strike.” (Mia)
It would have been cool if she didn’t say it herself. But now that she did, it messed up the event.
Though I wondered how Mia and Carol climbed up the tower. After planning the next attack, I left Fina in the hands of Swaying Bear, Mia and Carol to reduce the burden on Kagali-san, while we went to chase down the remaining magic tools.
Knowing the range of her bow and arrow, Mia adjusted her distance in a location a little close to the Slime and fired her arrows as the magic tool came out.
“This is the last.” (Yuna)
The arrow pierced the last magic tool as it emerged from Slime’s body.
“It’s really the last one, right? Are you sure that we didn’t miss anything?” (Yuna)
“Right now, all the magical tool responses that I could sense are gone. And, look at that.”
I turned my head to the edge of the Slime where Kagali-san was looking.
“It’s splitting?” (Yuna)
The giant Slime collapsed and became a bunch of smaller Slimes. The Slime that were separated then went out of the town. More and more Slime dispersed.
In other words, the Slimes had finally been liberated.
The magic tool created by someone made them do something they didn’t want to do, which was the reason why they tried absorbing the magic tool. If it had been me, who was manipulated, I would have gone crazy.
The Slime may be a monster, but I felt sorry for it.
So, I would not attack the fleeing Slimes.
The rest was a matter between the people who came here and the Slimes.
And this was the end of our battle.
“It’s over~” (Mia)
