Married to a Disabled Man in the 70s - Chapter 30
Su Jiaojiao didn’t wake up Song Qinghan, and went to the Su’s to get the green bean soup she put there in the morning.
When her nephews saw her, they ran towards her and hugged her thigh happily, “Aunt!”
“Uh-huh,” Su Jiaojiao pinched their little cheeks, then put the fish she brought inside a bowl. She pushed the three children lightly, “Go aside. I’ll give you something good to eat, ok?”
“Ok!” Her eldest nephew was very obedient and pulled his brothers (or is it cousins? or both?) away.
There weren’t any adults in the Su family house right now, and the well’s cover was a thick stone board. Su Jiaojiao could only see the well water inside, as well as the string attaching the well to its cover after she removed it.
After pulling the thing inside the well up, she saw the green bean soup in a glass bottle.
“Give me some cups,” Su Jiaojiao said to her nephews.
The three of them immediately scrambled to get some cups. After a short while, they were holding three clay cups. They raised their heads and looked at her expectantly.
Aunt is so nice! She always gives us delicious food to eat. To think Mommy says Aunt is bad, liar!
Su Jiaojiao gave the three a cup of green bean soup each, and took the rest back home.
Song Qinghan had already woken up by then. She left a cup of green bean soup for him and went to the fields.
As they napped longer than the people who had to work, the farmers had been working for quite some time when Su Jiaojiao sent them the green bean soup. It infuriated them until smoke was coming out of their ears.
[logical break point which I will ignore]
In the distance, Aunt Xiaofang straightened her back to rest for a bit. She saw a figure wearing a straw hat moving in her direction, but she couldn’t see it clearly as it was quite far away.
But there weren’t many people who could wear such beautiful clothing and walk so casually during this time.
Many households were willing to take their children to work for work points, so Aunt Xiaofang only had to squint a bit before guessing who the figure was. She looked at Sun Fang, who was working in the fields next door, and shouted, “Sun Fang, your daughter is here!”
“Your daughter has come to give you something good to drink again? You really didn’t raise her for nothing.” The first person to notice was not Sun Fang, but the person working the fields next to her. She was speaking jokingly, but there wasn’t much jealousy in her voice, and she looked at Sun Fang like she was a fool.
But wasn’t she a fool?
In the eyes of these people, a person who would rather have her daughter over her two sons, and would even kick her two sons out directly, was a fool.
Su Zhengyang and Sun Fang, this couple, was really an anomaly.
The person speaking to Sun Fang was actually disdainful to her, but Sun Fang thought it was sincere praise. She straightened her back and looked at the figure as well. Instantly recognizing Su Jiaojiao, she felt warm and fuzzy inside. She spoke with a hint of pride, “My Jiaojiao is both obedient and filial. Of course I didn’t raise her for nothing!”
Su Jiaojiao was better than her two sons at the very least.
Although a random passerby wouldn’t be able to tell in the long term, but her sons are ignoring Sun Fang at present. Other the other hand, Su Jiaojiao was worried she would be tired and constantly gave her food and drink. She even gave her cloth to make new clothes and money whenever she was afraid Sun Fang didn’t have enough to spend. To top it all off, she even knew how to coax her!
After thinking about all this, Sun Fang discovered that raising Su Jiaojiao was really, really worth it.
Sun Fang’s response made the person next to her flabbergasted. She rolled her eyes and continued to work.
Aunt Xiaofang chuckled. “Isn’t that because you have a good son-in-law?”
They got three hundred coins out of the blue. That was two years of their family’s salary!
Sun Fang just smiled and didn’t refute Aunt Xiaofang.
She saw Su Jiaojiao coming closer, with things in both her hands. She decided to rest for a bit so Su Jiaojiao wouldn’t get angry at her. Like her good daughter said, work is never-ending, so the most important thing is to take care of her own body.
Sun Fang put down the farming implements in her hands and walked towards Su Jiaojiao to greet her, wiping her sweat along the way.
But before she could walk more than two steps, she heard a voice with a strange tone to it. “Sigh, I’m so pitiful…the son I raised with so much difficulty finally married, but my son forgot about me after marriage. He even used the things from my home to help his in-laws. My life is so bitter!”
Closely following her was a response, “Mum, don’t worry. I won’t be like him!”
The two people speaking were Monther Song and her son Song Qingshan, as expected.
The members of the Song family worked enthusiastically, but the son they raised was a lazybones. When women worked, their workload was lighter than men. Except for the few women who were able to work at the men’s workstation, the rest could get 7-8 work points.
However, Song Qingshan worked at the women’s. The thing was, he could only get 6-7 work points, and not even 8. If his parents didn’t work hard, as well as Song Qinghan aiding him financially, his life wouldn’t even be as good as that of other households’.
The two’s conversation had an obvious meaning to it.
Sun Fang’s initially bright expression darkened. The place where the two were talking was a place Su Jiaojiao would walk past. As Su Jiaojiao was a bit far away, she could walk faster to meet her.
Armos D. Platypus: Sorry for the late chappie…I got confused cos I read absolutely nothing and had to go read the first chapter. Sun Fang is apparently Su Jiaojiao’s mother.
On a side note, this is the first chappie where there’s minimal dog food! I know you readers may hate this, but this platypus is joyful beyond words. Finally~ actual food~
PS: Meihua, you’re making every reader (not me tho!) jealous. Are you sure you aren’t a female josei MC?
