Married to a Disabled Man in the 70s - Chapter 56
After he finished speaking, Wang Jianye and the passersby turned serious. Wang Jianye’s little brother Wang Jianguo said, “He has a point. Commander, Qinghan is a good child, if an educated female youth actually got r̲a̲p̲e̲d̲ in this village, our battalion would have been implicated. It’s fine for us to not praise heroes, but we can’t stifle heroic deeds.
Wang Jianye understood as well, so he nodded and said, “I’ll go and phone the Public Security Bureau. Go back first and don’t interfere. Let the police officers do their job.”
The passersby all nodded their heads. “We’ll go back. Otherwise, that old woman might try and swindle us too.”
(I’m really starting to hate the village’s general populace. I mean, they’re essentially the archetypical Hongkonger, but with fewer personal opinions and more violence.)
The old lady immediately panicked as she hugged the commander’s leg. She bawled tearfully as she cried, “You can’t do that! You can’t tell anything to Public Security Bureau. I’ve done nothing wrong! After all, he broke my son’s legs. So what if I want him to take responsibility?
Wang Jianye felt a headache coming on as he looked at Wang Jianguo.
Wang Jianguo nodded and bolted to call the Public Security Bureau.
(FansTranslations only yada yada you know the drill. Go back there if you’re reading from somewhere else.)
Song Qinghan went inside his house again. Then, he suddenly turned towards the passersby and said, “Aunts and Uncles, you should go further from the scene, but don’t leave. If the commander gets implicated, he’ll need alibis.”
From the neighbouring courtyard a few metres away, Aunt Wong shouted, “Speak all you want! Who told you scumbags (Zhang Shu’s parents) to try r̲a̲p̲e̲ someone else’s daughter? How does someone with no morality at all have the face to scold another person?”
Su Jiaojiao had been looking at the scene at the back. She had thought Song Qinghan wouldn’t be able to do anything about this, but it turned out he had a trick or two.
Many people are hindered because they were uncultured, but others are benefited because of it. As they knew nothing, they could be self-righteous and have no shame.
Zhang Shu’s parents were the second type of people.
Because of Song Qinghan’s words, the passersby really went further from Wang Jianye and that old woman warily. A few of them with short fuses starting yelling at her.
The commander was resigned to his fate. He wanted to shake off her, but couldn’t. Otherwise, she would sue him in court. “Say whatever you want. I’m in the right after all!”
The old woman honestly didn’t know what was happening.
She had been trying to swindle money from Song Qinghan with her husband. He had hurt her son, so why couldn’t he recompensate her? Sure, she was afraid of the country’s might, but she wasn’t scared of Song Qinghan.
Who would’ve known something like this would happen. As she saw the people jeering at her, she turned back and looked at Song Qinghan, almost angered to death. “You killed my son, and now you’re going to kill me too? I’m not done with you yet!”
After she said that, she let go of Wang Jianye and lunged towards Song Qinghan.
A feeling of rage welled inside Su Jiaojiao as she slammed the door shut before Song Qinghan could react. From behind the door, she roared, “What do you think you’re saying, huh? Wasn’t your son the one who tried to r̲a̲p̲e̲ someone? You couldn’t raise your son well and tried to bully my husband into giving you alimony. Both of you are just gutter trash!”
Song Qinghan was uncharacteristically late by a step. When he saw his wife that angry, he smiled and laughed, “You don’t have to bicker with those people. You’ll never win against her twisted sense of logic.”
Most people weren’t true villains, but occasionally a psychopath would appear. He knew that some people would never turn good no matter what you did.
Su Jiaojiao’s face puffed up and she said seriously, “I have to say it anyways. Otherwise, I’ll feel uncomfortable inside, and make other people uncomfortable is better than the alternative.”
Song Qinghan: “…You have a point!”
As the door was still slammed shut, the old woman still couldn’t enter. She was banging on the door with a snarl, and when she found the door too sturdy, started using her shoes instead. “Isn’t that because those b*!&@(es act so indecent! They keep wiggling their butts when they walk. You couldn’t blame my son on preying that deserved it as much as them!”
Su Jiaojiao coldly laughed, “Then if someone killed your son, does he deserve it?”
The old woman started crying again. “Help me, she’s trying to kill my son…”
Although she was crying even more pitifully this time around, no one felt sympathy for her anymore.
Armos D. Platypus: It’s hilarious how Zhang Shu’s parents never got names, like…Mother Song. lol
PS: Not female, but I think the ‘butt-wiggling’ is just the natural female sway. Old woman you hypocrite.
