Married to a Disabled Man in the 70s - Chapter 92
“Dad!” Song Yu’an frowned and shouted, “Can’t he just speak in front of all of us? He’s just asking to borrow money from you anyway!”
“Song Yu’an!” Ji Ya shouted with a dark face.
Song Yuan immediately clutched his heart, “Mom, don’t be so loud, I’m feeling uncomfortable!”
Ji Ya almost choked and said with a sullen face. “Don’t talk if you are uncomfortable, nobody will think you’re mute. Every day you don’t do anything except ask for money to go out and play, and when you come back, you talk about your heart. How could you be so…”
Those kinds of conversations often happened in the past, so Ji Xuexi wasn’t surprised at all, and Song Huaijin was even calmer. He patted his nephew on the shoulder and led him upstairs, “Let’s talk.”
Ji Xuexi knew his uncle was conventional in his thinking. His aunt was in charge of family affairs unless she said she couldn’t handle it.
Ji Xuexi sighed and followed, looking forward to the minuscule possibility he still had.
When the study door closed, he took out a photo and asked, “Uncle, do you find this photo familiar?”
Song Huaijin took it curiously. At looking at it, his brows were raised. “…This person looks familiar, but I can’t remember where I’ve seen him.”
Ji Xuexue suddenly wanted to laugh. After looking around the study, he found a small mirror and handed it to Song Huajin. “Look again.”
Song Huaijin looked at himself in the mirror, then at the person in the photo, and suddenly realized that the person looked like himself when he was younger.
He panicked and quickly walked to the bookshelf to find a photo album. Then, he opened and looked at it. He looked even more similar to the young man in the photo when he was younger.
Song Huaijin lowered his voice and whispered to his nephew almost frantically, “Xuexi, I have never betrayed your aunt. Don’t joke around about these matters.”
Ji Xuexue continued to smile and explained. “His name is Song Qinghan…”
(Armos D. Platypus: After the horror the previous chappie was, things are looking up in this one!)
After Ji Xuexi finished explaining, Song Huaijin was also aware that something was wrong. And when he heard about Song Qinghan’s parents’ attitude toward him, his brows furrowed even more.
There were too many coincidences, and it was starting to make him feel uneasy. Song Huaijin was starting to think about the improbable.
But this wasn’t impossible. According to Ji Xuexi’s description, this person’s parents were selfish and only cared about themselves. It wasn’t unthinkable for them to switch their child with his.
Song Huaijin felt more frightened the more he thought about it.
Ji Xuexi left the room after he had finished his explanation without adding anything.
After having dinner, Ji Xuexi left. His departure was just as sudden and unexpected as his arrival.
Ji Ya looked at a loss. “What’s Ji Xuexi doing?”
Song Huaijin smiled wearily and replied, “I’m not sure. I think he didn’t have much to do at work and wanted to come visit you.”
Song Yuan, who was eating fruit with his legs crossed on the sofa, sneered. “I think he just wants you to give him a better job. Something like being a secretary in a factory.”
Song Huaijin was still contemplating was Ji Xuexi was saying. After hearing this, he inexplicably thought of what Ji Xuexue said about the suffering of what might be his actual son. He became hot-headed and said harshly, “Then I will give him a new job! It just so happens a secretary in the factory will be on marital leave soon, so there’s an empty spot.”
Song Yuan was as angered as if someone has stolen something from him. “Dad, you can’t do this! My friend is still unemployed! Didn’t you say you’d save the next open spot in the factory for my friend?”
“What kind of people are those dog friends of yours? Them, working as secretaries? They’re dreaming!”
“Why are you saying this?!” Song Yuan was flustered and immediately clutched his heart, “Mom, I’m so uncomfortable…”
Ji Ya initially wanted to see her son suffer, but her heart softened when she saw him like this. She helped him up and comforted him, and then turned around to condemn her husband. “What grudge do you hold against your son? Can’t you just speak softly? He learnt all his bad habits from you!”
Song Huaijin returned to his senses. Looking at his son’s pale face and his wife’s appearance, he had a headache, but he became even more frustrated when he thought of the other possibility. His face was black as he went back up the stairs.
He has to investigate this himself!
Armos D. Platypus: Even the climatic confrontations are…not climatic…I’m either doing something terribly wrong or the story doesn’t know how to generate tension.
