102. Mari-nee and flying spirit

Immediately after logging in, I was semi-forced into a ‘talk’, leaving me utterly drained when I finally exited the small room.

Incidentally, the four people who were in that room are now having their own ‘talk’ with Retya. I hope this will make them a bit more mature, but that might be wishful thinking. Their past behavior speaks otherwise.

Gils, however, was spared from Retya’s ‘talk’ because I promised to talk to him myself. Despite his newfound strength after awakening, his heart is still that of a child. I need to teach him to prevent him from going off the rails.

For now, I decided to think about something more enjoyable.

The shop in the capital that sells Japanese ingredients and seasonings. I’m planning to shop there until my item box is full.

With this resolve, I opened the door to the outside, only to be left speechless for the umpteenth time since starting Mebius.

“What the!”

Next to the home base, where the celebration party was held, there was now a grand church. Even though the real-world time was just a few days ago, given Mebius’s time flow is four times faster, it shouldn’t have been more than a month.

Yet, a magnificent church stood there.

The church was built from white stone, with plant-like patterns carved into the walls, and the overall appearance was rounded. It gave off an Art Nouveau vibe, with motifs of flowers and plants. It looked more like a cathedral than a simple church.

On the roof, a symbol resembling the scales seen in the church of the city of Eden was displayed.

“How did they build something this big in such a short time… Oh, magic.”

In reality, even with mechanized labor, it’s clear that constructing a building from design to completion requires a lot of manpower and time. However, in the world of Mebius, there is magic. I had completely forgotten since I can’t use magic myself, but with magic, it might be possible to build faster than in reality.

In front of the cathedral, many people were now gathered, forming a line. They varied in age and gender, but all had bright expressions.

“What’s this line for…”

As I stared at the line in astonishment,

“Maria-sama!”

The line parted, and Estelle came walking, no, running towards me!?

“You again!”

Gils reached out to block Estelle’s approach. However, just before he could touch her, she sidestepped and deflected his hand with her palm, throwing off his balance and slipping past him.

Since when did Estelle learn such techniques?

In the end, I succumbed to the pressure of everyone’s expectations and let Estelle lead me into the church.

I decided to call it a church as Estelle did, but the interior matched its exterior’s grandeur, exuding an atmosphere of solemnity.

At the end of the red carpet, elevated above everything else, was the sacred object Estelle had mentioned.

The sacred object resembled the church’s symbol, made of a pillar, arms, silver chains extending from both sides of the arms, and silver plates.

The pillar seemed to be made of wood, but its surface was polished to a reflective shine, with a gentle hue.

The structure was the same as what I had seen in the city of Eden, but there was one significant difference.

The pillar was not a straight rod but a long-haired girl draped in robes.

The arms of the scale were the girl’s arms, giving the impression of a girl spreading her arms wide, with silver chains hanging from her fingertips.

Her eyes were closed, but a faint smile played on her lips. Being enshrined at a higher position made her look as though she was warmly watching over those who gazed up at her.

If this were some other girl, I might have been genuinely moved.

But you know?

This girl was about 140 cm tall, with slender limbs. Her chest was barely enough to discern her gender.

This wasn’t a sense of déjà vu, it was undeniable recognition.

I had no mental capacity left to focus on anything else and turned to Estelle beside me.

“Estelle-san, this…?”

“After discussing with His Majesty the King, we thought just enshrining the church’s symbol wouldn’t suffice, so we decided to combine it with the image of Maria, the hero of Caldia. Since its unveiling, people from the capital have been visiting daily to see its magnificence.”

I thought she might be a bit vague, but she straightforwardly admitted it was me.

Beyond speechless, I felt my soul drift far away even in the world of Mebius.

Where would a soul drift in this world?

I hope I could meet Nero and Kuuga, but since they’re housed in Gils and the black egg, it’s probably not possible.

Both of you, I’m physically well today too.

So, no need to worry about that.

But as for my heart, I’d appreciate it if you could keep an eye on me a bit longer…
