Mebius World Online – Mari’s VRMMO Diary, Embarking on a Laid-back Adventure as a Novice - Chapter 18
A bit late but, Happy new year
1-18. Mari-nee and the value of Capture Skills
It must have been quite painful, as the two who had teary eyes were able to take their seats about five minutes later.
“Let me reintroduce myself again. I am Roulette, the head of the Sewing Guild.
As if nothing had happened, Roulette began her introduction. Her laid-back demeanor seemed unshakeable.
“Um, what is the guild?”
“We are a gathering of volunteers who primarily enjoy sewing skills,” Roulette-san explained. “It’s like a club at school, you know?”
Being the head of such a gathering meant that Roulette-san was indeed an impressive person.
As one person seemed satisfied, a woman with blue hair stood up.
“I am Kanna, the head of the Carpenter Guild. Nice to meet you.”
Her gesture of closing one eye with a click seemed feminine from any angle, but there was a significant dissonance between her appearance and her voice.
Feeling tension in various ways, I awkwardly returned a nod when Kanna-san took her seat.
Next was a man with a bushy beard who stood up.
“I’m Mareus, the head of the Blacksmith Guild. By the way, forget what this fella said earlier, okay?”
By “this fella,” he probably meant the confession and such.
I didn’t particularly remember, so I just nodded.
Now, it was my turn.
I stayed seated, as standing up would probably hide me under the table.
…Because, you know, saying it myself would be pitiful, right?
“I’m Maria. My job is a Jester.”
Thinking that a name alone would be too plain, I decided to mention my job.
I don’t think my cooking skill is something to brag about.
“A Jester? You chose such a landmine of a job. Well, suit yourself,” Mareus said in a tone that was mocking or perhaps disdainful.
A landmine job? I don’t think it’s that dangerous or harmful to others.
Then, the woman with blue hair, Kanna, who had seated herself, spoke up.
“We are here to consult about the skill ‘Capture,’ as mentioned earlier. Roulette-chan already talked about the importance of the skill. Our opinions align. So, formally, we want Maria-chan to sell us information on the acquisition conditions of the ‘Capture’ skill. If this skill becomes widespread, it will also contribute to the activation of our production roles.”
“I don’t mind selling the information, but is the ‘Capture’ skill really that important?”
“If you’ve ever cooked, you should understand a bit, right? Defeating a large monster only yields one piece of meat. But if you think of it as a whole head, it’s a good deal, isn’t it? We’re in the same situation. Especially now when there are various issues,” Kanna-san explained.
“Issues?”
“Well, we’ll talk about that later. So, how about one million Mega as compensation for the information?”
“One million Mega?”
“One million Mega means, well, one hundred million,” Kanna clarified.
“What?”
I unintentionally let out a dumbfounded voice.”
The loop of the word “one million” in my head continues, and there’s no sign of my brain catching up.
I mean, it’s one million, right?
I worked hard to defeat the Black Wolf and earned money, and even with what I had on hand, it was only 20,000 G. And now, it’s fifty times that!?
Feeling dizzy, I hear another shocking statement from Roulette-san.
“If you’re producing, earning and spending one million is a piece of cake. The three of us have tens of millions in no time.”
Tens of millions? How many Boar meats would that be?
Calculating the cost of ingredients from my frugal perspective, I was bewildered by the magnitude of the calculated number.
It’s an amazing world, this production thing.
Oh, but come to think of it, in reality, Maki might be doing something similar.
Well, she’s dealing with even larger figures there, though.
“Maria-chan’s information is worth that much. Is that okay with you?”
“…Yes.”
With a feeling of ‘do whatever,’ I showed the details of the skill to the three.
?Capture?
- Can be used when the target’s HP is reduced to 10% or less. If successful, the target can be obtained in a captured state. Success rate depends on skill level and equipment and is inversely proportional to the target’s strength.
- Engage in combat with the target, with both HP dropping below 10%. Obtain the captured state of the target by sustaining it for more than 10 minutes. Acquisition requires facing the target one-on-one, and if support is received from others, the skill acquisition will fail.
I had never properly read the explanation of common skills, but the acquisition conditions were written below the skill description.
I see, these were the conditions.
The battle with the Bloody Boar was reckless, so obtaining the skill was just luck, I now understood.
“This one… no wonder no one can acquire it.”
“Seriously. If it’s just maintaining the captured state for more than 10 minutes, it’s not difficult, but the condition of both HPs being 10% or less makes it instantly challenging.”
“If my HP is less than 10%, I would prioritize either recovering or defeating the opponent.”
After showing signs of contacting someone individually, the three, as representatives, requested a trade with me.
Upon approval, I really received one million G.
Honestly, I’ve had enough for today.
Can I go home now?
“Now, with the skill settlement done, let’s move on to the discussion about the event.”
It seems they’re not letting me off just yet. Right?
