Mebius World Online – Mari’s VRMMO Diary, Embarking on a Laid-back Adventure as a Novice - Chapter 38
Imagine when your parents doesn’t likie what you do as the stale job and making fun of it right on front of your face. Just my daily rant as TL
38. Mari-nee and the First Official Event (Queen of Massacre)
“The Scarlet-Eyed Queen of Massacre…”
When I heard that name, the first thing that came to mind was my younger brother, Masato.
Back when Masato was younger, there was a time when he used unusual words and strange abbreviations, coupled with theatrical gestures. I brought up this memory casually after waking up some time ago.
“Don’t remember that! Forget it with all your might!! Please, I’m begging you, Onee-sama!!!”
He knelt down, almost in tears, pleading desperately.
At that time, I didn’t understand why Masato was so flustered. However, afterward, Maki told me, “That’s like an illness that every boy experiences when they’re young. It’s better to just leave him alone.” In an unusual display of sympathy, she spoke with a voice that genuinely empathized with Masato, and since then, I’ve refrained from bringing up that topic in front of him.
The name “Scarlet-Eyed Queen of Massacre” carries a scent similar to Masato’s words, but there’s one absolute difference – the power contained in the words, in the name.
If Masato’s words were light and born from acting, then Roulette-san’s were likely something solid constructed through actions. The nickname carried such an imposing presence that it overshadowed the original name.
“What are you dawdling for! Hurry up and run, or you’ll be devoured by a true ‘oni’ different from me!!”
“Good luck, Maria-chan. Once it reaches that point, Roulette-chan won’t be able to distinguish between friend and foe, and she’ll be exempt from the party’s damage nullification limit.”
“Why didn’t you tell me that earlier!!”
As if reacting to the nickname, Roulette-san, who had slowed down, glared at us, then suddenly started running straight toward us!?
“C-Cougar!”
“Gaooou!?”
I was startled.
And, unexpectedly, Cougar was also shaken.
There’s no use trying to hide it, right?
I didn’t miss the momentary shiver.
But, it’s not the time to leisurely observe such things.
I called Nero and skillfully maneuvered Cougar through the Named monsters.
From behind, I could tell that Roulette-san was chasing us.
Slipping through, I manipulated one of the strands of the “Giant Spider’s Web,” activating the adhesive property of the equipment as I continued to attach it to the Named monsters’ legs one after another.
I’ve used this technique extensively against goblins, so I’m familiar with the process.
With the skill level of ?Thread Manipulation? reaching 18, I can now extend each thread up to about 1 km.
So, while running Cougar, I continued to “take a detour” by extending the thread, still having room to spare.
We’ve fought and defeated Named monsters twice before, but the Named monsters in the second area will likely be much stronger than that, and there are several of them.
Fighting them head-on would be suicidal.
So, occasionally, I activated ?Clown?on Nero to attract attention and moved from place to place.
Of course, Named monsters followed us, but is it okay to move around so freely?
As expected, the threads attached to their legs got entangled with each other, and the Named monsters fell one after another, as if intertwining.
Seeing Cougar blow away Named monsters and inadvertently involve the surrounding monsters, I thought it might work, and it did.
The mass of Named monsters created in this way blocked my path like a wall, and there’s no way Roulette-san could overlook it.
“DHROOOOAAAAAA!!”
A voice, more like a thunderous roar than anything a human would produce, resounded in the surroundings.
Intense striking sounds echoed in succession, following the roar.
The strength of that impact was so intense that it transmitted through the thread despite being at a distance.
“What nonsense…”
Certainly, the Named monsters have their movements restricted, but they should still be different from ordinary monsters.
Yet, the “length of thread that can be freely used” has been increasing steadily since earlier.
That means the length returned from the ones that were attached, and the Named monsters that were attached are already… right?
Just how strong is she? It’s already beyond my imagination, Roulette-san!!
While I was paying attention to the rear, my reaction to the Named monsters that approached at arrow-like speed was delayed.
“Oh no!?”
I thought it might be the end before I could finish that thought, but Cougar instinctively intercepted the attack, and Nero repelled it with a cat punch.
“Thank you, Cougar! Nero!”
“Gaooa.”
“Nyaa.”
As if saying it’s nothing, the two responded with reassuring short cries.
They’re really reliable.
But I have to be careful; a single blow could be fatal for me.
The new Named monsters looked completely like a horse in appearance.
Around it, there was a green, what should I call it, effect? Flickering like flames.
Green represents the wind attribute, and for a horse Named monsters…
“<Storm Horse>”? But, it feels somehow…
What felt off to me was the color of its body.
I heard from Roulette-san that the material for the skirt and shoes comes from the Wind Horse, but its body is green to match the attribute.
It’s not unusual for the color to be different between ordinary monsters and Named monsters, given the example of the Bloody Boar.
But, instead of black, isn’t it more like a dark black?
Curious, I looked around, and every monster, both ordinary and Named monsters, had a uniformly dark blackish color.
“Is there some meaning to it…”
Whether it was due to paying attention to the color or not, I suddenly felt a dimness, and the figure of the <Storm Horse> disappeared in front of me.
In its place appeared the adventurer I saw right before the event started.
Even an amateur like me could tell they had powerful equipment, effortlessly handling a greatsword.
It was Leon, the warrior-type leader who should have been at the frontline.
