The Bond Between the Two
Caught up in the Magic of Spatial Transfer Teleportation, Elena and I were leapfrogged to an unfamiliar place.
Dry wind and fine sand that clung to us. The dazzling morning sun, without even a cloud to block it, illuminated a vast city of ruins in a haze of dust, and Elena, seeing it, muttered the name of the ruins.
“…Reiz Veil?”
“Ah, right…I’ve only read about it in books and this is the first time I’ve actually seen it, but if we are still on the Sarth continent and speaking of ruined desert cities, I have no idea where else we could be located other than that place.”
Elena told me about the ancient ruins she had learned about in a book.
She did not know when they were built, at least not before the Cruz people, the indigenous people of this continent, formed a nation, and she was not even sure which race of people lived there.
This city, with its architectural style different from that of the Cruz people living in the western part of the continent and the forest elves, a long-lived species, was made entirely of sandstone, and yet, except for the exterior, it remained intricately shaped without weathering, giving visitors an idea of life at that time.
The most striking feature of the ruins of this city was its vastness. It would take a month just to cross the city, and no one really knew the whole picture of the city.
It would not be surprising if people lived in the city, since it retained its original shape and water could be produced by life magic even in the desert, but the reason it turned into ruins without people living here was probably because many monsters living in the desert made it their nest.
It was said that lizards and snakes with rock-like skin, giant beetle-type demons, mad spirits, the undead, and even dragons dwell in its depths.
“No one lives here?”
” I think so…”
Elena’s face looked pale in the morning sun, probably not only because she was tired from the attack.
If this was Reiz Veil, then Cleydale, in the southeastern part of the continent, was at least 4 or more other countries away. If Elena, who had been adjusting the internal balance of power, remained missing for a long time, it could end up as the Evil Race intended when they tried to abduct Elena and keep her alive.
Elena regretted that she did not die in a way that would be known to anyone.
If I had taken Elena’s wishes into consideration and ended her in my own hands instead of letting Gostola do this, I would probably have been supported by a more neutral faction of aristocrats, although not the best one.
But I wanted Elena to live to the last moment.
“Let’s go home, Elena, we may simply die at any time, and the Cleydale Kingdom is not a weak country that will be ruined in a few months.”
“Aria…”
At my words, Elena looked up from her slumped position and reflected me in her blue eyes.
I want her to live. That was my selfishness. But I would not give up. I would bring Elena back before my country fell into disarray.
Perhaps my will was conveyed to her, and her eyes regained their usual strength.
“…I understand, Aria, but you have to promise me one thing…. If I am in a situation where I cannot return…kill me, and you alone will return, and tell them so.”
“Elena…”
She was strong. I gently reached out my hand to the glint of strength hidden in her fragile figure, and Elena’s hands wrapped around mine.

“…okay.”
We both leaned in close, and after a moment, we slowly let go of each other’s contact, and looked at each other and nodded quietly as we looked forward.
“Let’s set a policy.”
First, we got to where the people were. I would appreciate it if there were magical tools there that would allow us to talk long distance, but there was little hope in that. According to Elena’s assessment, there were few of them, and we would need to communicate using communication equipment that would allow us to make long-distance calls between countries, then we would need to at least reach Khalfaan Empire.
“We will find a settlement. Then we will find a way to get to the Khalfaan Empire. We’ll work out the details after we have found the settlement.”
“That’s fine. And since we will be working together from now on, could you please treat me as one of your companions?”
We were going home together. Elena’s expression looked happy as she looked forward to this goal. This was probably the reason why she was able to show her strong, natural cheerfulness.
“Okay, Elena, but first sleep.”
“…Eh?”
Elena, who had been expecting to be assigned to do something, looked at me with a puzzled look on her face. But then again, that’s part of being an “adventurer”.
“Elena hasn’t slept either, has she? Besides, the temperature is low now, but it will get higher as soon as the sun comes up. We’ll start moving in the evening.”
According to that woman’s “knowledge”, the temperature in the desert varies greatly between day and night. I did not know if this was true in this world, but at least the temperature I could feel on my skin was starting to rise a little bit.
“Let’s return to the forest and look for a place to rest. Make sure you drink plenty of water.”

I also handed some roasted nuts from the [Shadow Storage] to Elena, who hurriedly chased after me as I returned to the forest.

The air was dry, so there was little water magic element visible, and the amount of water obtained by the living magic was small. But Elena, who has the water attribute, noticed this and offered water for me as well.
The forest was almost like a thicket with only rocky areas because of the proximity to the desert. The trees were straight and thin with few leaves, so I searched for a rocky spot where I could get some shade and handed Elena my cloak from the [Shadow Storage].
“We’ll take turns napping. I’ll wake you in a moment or so, until then…”
“You rest first, Aria.”
Elena interrupted me and pushed back the cloak she had given me, glaring at me with a slightly scary expression on her face.
“You, you have a little dark circle under your eyes. You haven’t slept in days, by any chance, have you? I’m still fine, you go to sleep first.”
“…Okay.”
