Otome Game no Heroine de Saikyou Survival [WN] - Chapter 162.6
The residents, as well as Ron, seemed to gulp slightly as if they sensed something in the way she spoke to them instead of her usual polite way of speaking.
“Why don’t you just take them down yourselves?”
“Oh, we’re weak, we have no choice! You are strong, that’s why you can say that! That kid isn’t your kid either, is he? Then help us instead of him!”
“I won’t.”
The air froze for a moment as Elena replied without a pause.
“This child thought about what he could do for me and my friends, and he made an effort to do it. How can you people who interfered with that expect to be forgiven?”
These words, spoken without emotion, convey a certain emotion.
As Royalty, a presence that protects the people. But also showed no mercy to their enemies. Elena smiled at them as they fell silent, feeling the cold determination in her words.
“Whose town is this? This is your town, isn’t it? What if you don’t protect it? This is your home, isn’t it? Will you just let it be destroyed?”
“Oh, no…we’re not…”
The man’s eyes wavered in confusion. He hated this town where he suffered just by living. He had wanted to escape from such a place someday.
But when the smiling girl spoke the word [hometown], he felt something hot that he had almost forgotten in the back of his mind.
“Don’t let them do that to you.”
“What?”
Ron and Elena turned around when a voice suddenly interrupted them.
Looking up, they saw a man looking down at them from a rocky outcrop, his face hidden by the hood of his cloak. From below, we could see inside the hood, but could not see his face because of the backlight. However, it seemed as if the face, which should have been invisible, was smiling.
“…Who are you?”
“The Mercenian girl…you, the one called [Rose] or someone related to her? I thought I made a poor choice when I was told to chase those fleeing the town and crush them if they had the will to rebel… but I didn’t think you were actually here…”
“…”
A few more Cruzians appeared behind the man, who apparently was either a chatterbox or thought he had the upper hand, saying only what he wanted to say and giving the impression that he was somewhat of a lecher.
“Hey, mister. You shouldn’t talk so much…”
“Why not? Wouldn’t you like to have a little chat before you die, young lady?”
All of them were Rank 2 or higher. Elena guessed from her experience in the dungeon and so far that the hooded man was at least Rank 3, though the cloak made it hard to tell.
If they were to be believed, something had happened or was about to happen in the town. And they guessed that they were not out to get them, but to kill them anyway.
Elena and Ron calculated whether they could beat them or not.
Ron could use magic, but not enough to take them out with a single blow.
The lightning spells would be spread out and become less powerful with Elena’s skill at this distance. The only way to defeat them with a single blow would be to use ice spells, but at this distance, there was a risk that they would lose.
(If only we could create some kind of opening… even just a little bit…)
There was a way to have Ron’s magic control the attack, but there was no way to say it out loud, and Elena’s intentions were not so communicated silently.
But then…
–Hyun!
“Nn…g!?”
At the moment the man looked up at the sound of the wind slash, a small arrow pierced his right eye.
“–[Ice Lance]–!”
In that instant, Elena shot out the [Ice Lance] she had composed, and the man whose heart was pierced rolled off the rocky ground, exposing his pitch-black Dark Elf bare face.
“Wha…?”
The man’s companions exclaimed, looking around, and only Elena looked back in that direction to see a girl, out of breath and holding a small crossbow, her hair a fiery gray-iron color, emerge from the rocky ledge on the opposite side.
“Did I keep you waiting?”
“No, it was good timing, Aria.”
