Otome Game no Heroine de Saikyou Survival [WN] - Chapter 164.4
Elena’s eyes narrowed a bit coldly again at the man’s simpering attitude. Leave it to others. She thought that someone would do something about it, and all she could do was hope.
“How can you people live like this if all you want to do is to live? Living your life the way you want to without doing anything. This place is your ‘home’, right.”
Even in this harsh desert, survival was possible. Adults with different powers than the orphans could survive anywhere, defeating monsters and eating succulent plants as food.
That part was different from us, who had a purpose and no freedom.
“I…”
The man at the front of the group looked distressed at Elena’s words, then looked up as if he had made up his mind.
“Well…this is my home. It’s a shitty place, but I still know some people. I can’t fight, but I can tell those guys to run…”
“Okay. I won’t stop you. But… please, take care of yourself.”
“Oh, ooh.”
At Elena’s words, the man started running somewhere, and the others, looking a little confused, nodded in their own way before following him.
“…Elena, Aria, can I leave Naru to you?”
Ron, who was watching the situation, said such a thing as he picked up Naru, who had put her sword away, and laid her down.
“That’s fine, but…what about you, Ron?”
“I’m going to look for Camille.”
Ron looked at us with a serious face at Elena’s words.
“What happened to Camille? I thought was going to come back to the base before we did.”
“He didn’t come back.”
Ron shook his head and wrinkled his brow a bit at my words, which were a little more intentional.
“But believe me, Camille is not from this town, but he was not involved in the Demon Army invasion. Rather…”
Elena quietly shook her head at Ron, who was still unable to speak, wondering if Ron knew Camille’s background.
“We don’t believe that Camille, even if he was a Dark Elf, was involved, nor do we believe he is in touch with the Demon Army. But do you know where he is, Ron?”
“Oh, sorry. I had asked him to buy fire magic stones for me as well. Supposedly, though, there was a trustworthy merchant I knew in town, so I think that’s where I’ll find him.”
While I certainly believe Camille personally, there was something suspicious about his background. I wouldn’t assume either that he was connected to the Demon Army on that basis alone, but I wouldn’t say that he was completely unrelated either.
And if Camille was indeed headed to town, he could even be mistaken for a Dark Elf and attacked by the town’s inhabitants.
Ron may be worried about his friend, as he judged that he was likely to get involved in this matter, including Camille’s true identity.
“Ron, do you still need more Fire Magic Stones?”
“Well, just a little bit…I should be able to keep it flying long enough to get to the edge of the Khalfaan empire.”
“Then, Ron, get the hot air balloon ready. If the Demon Army found that thing, they would surely take it from us.”
“I understand that, but…”
I guess he wanted to go look for his friend Camille. I understand that feeling, but considering our purpose, I can see the best solution.
“I’ll go to the town, while Ron and Rena prepare for the escape.”
“Aria…”
Even if Ron goes, I don’t know if he is capable of coming back. Even if I go, the danger is still the same, but still I am used to situations where everything is against me.
I don’t know if saving Camille is the right thing to do, but I still trust him enough to believe that he can be saved from his efforts to save the child.
Ron exclaims as I nonchalantly decide to jump into danger alone, and Elena comes up to me with slightly moist eyes and presses her own forehead against my shoulder with the slightest force, touch or no touch.
“You’re… going alone again.”
“I agree with Rena. But can you protect her for me? I’ll be back soon. You just have to trust me, okay?”
With that, I pulled my face away from her shoulder and she looked up at me up close.
“To me, you are more than anyone else in this world…”
“I know.”
Elena pulled herself away from me with a worried, complicated smile as she decided to head into town alone, and looking at our interaction, Ron turned his straight, determined eyes on me.
“…I’m sorry I can’t tell you everything. But I want you to trust me…to handle things here. Aria… I leave Camille in your hands.”
***
“General Aishe, we have received word from the detachment that the adventurers have been successfully quarantined.”
The Dark Elf woman called General nodded silently at her subordinate’s words and stood up with a clink of her armor.
The sorcerer’s company, with their monster tamers, had led the adventurers away from the town. The beastmen, who had been a nuisance in the town, had killed one of the elders and their chain of command had not been restored.
Aishe, who stood over one hundred and seventy, tall for an elven woman, her black leather robe open at the chest and her trained body covered with sword scars, glared at her men lined up with her golden eyes while her long silver hair swept over them, and raised her beloved black great sword high in the air at them.
“Demon General Aishe has given the order! All troops, go out!”
