Desert Battle Part 1

At the Adventurers’ Guild, there were a few dwarves left alive.

The guild had been reluctant to allow the attack because only low-ranked adventurers remained, but it was the guild’s staff who had remained, and most of the low-ranked adventurers had already fled.

The reason the staff did not flee was partly due to a sense of kinship, but it was also because Jesha and Zilgan had managed to keep the guild together. They said that even if the Adventurers’ Guild were to disappear, they would remain as the Hoglos Trading Company to protect the town.

Even in a town like this, where there was no order, some people lived with pride. They have their reasons for fighting, so I left the Adventurers’ Guild to fulfill my own purpose.

“It’s burning…”

Fires were rising from several places in the town, and I could tell from the smoke rising from the distance that there were quite a few Dark Elves in the mix. Probably not more than a hundred or two hundred, if the Rizan Group was included.

Merchants and residents were running for their lives. But some of the residents were also fighting back against the attackers with weapons such as machetes and hammers.

“Gyah!”

One of the Rizan Group who was fighting the residents dropped his weapon after being slashed in the arm by my Pendulum.

There was nothing I could do for this town. All I could do was to get rid of the fire that was raining down on them, but still, as I ran through the town and wounded the hands and faces of the Rizan Group and Dark Elves I saw with my Pendulum, several of the surrounding residents charged at the attackers, knocking them down.

I felt as if I had seen the strength of the people of the desert. They would decide the fate of their town.

I…we were going to get out of this desert.

It was the only way to rescue Elena’s life and her wish at the same time in this situation.

But first, I must do what I can.

The town of Cutlass, like most towns, was surrounded by a wall, but parts of it had collapsed, leading to a dangerous area where orphans and poor people like Chaco and the others lived, and where monsters appeared.

I climbed over the crumbling wall and made my way to one of the watchtowers near the area.

There was more than one watchtower built around this town. I was told that half of them were still in use, and that they would alert the town in the event of something happening at the ruins.

The fact that there was no word from that still remaining watchtower was either because we had not yet reached a position where they could see the stampede or because Jesha and the others were keeping it well under control… or…

“You, if you get any closer–“

“Get out of my way.”

A projectile knife pierced between the eyebrows of a Dark Elf who was about to fire a bow at me.

A Dark Elf in black armor…I knew it, the Demon Army had taken over the tower. I retrieved the knife from the dead Dark Elf and slashed one of the Rizan Group who heard the noise and came running out of the tower with a Slash Type Pendulum to the eye, while I closed the gap and plunged the blade into the heart of the man following him.

“Te, enemy attack!

A desperate cry echoed through the tower, and as I leapt into the tower, several Cruzians descended from the upper floors.

If our abilities match in melee combat, it would be advantageous to be in a higher position to take advantage of weight. However, this would be a different story if their enemy had “magic”.

“–[Phantom Pain] –“

“Gyah!”

The last man to come down – who was in last place because he was carrying a heavy weapon and wearing heavy armor – was confused by [Phantom Pain] and tumbled down the stairs as if to involve his companions.

Several men were crushed by the tumbling big man. I ran up the wall of the spiral staircase and then kicked and crushed the big man’s neck as if I was using it as a foothold.

I finished off the enemy, who was still breathing, and ran up the stairs at full speed.
