My gear was back, but not Jesha’s two-handed axe and the weapon I got from Galbas. I wonder if they stored them away somewhere, or if someone took them from me. Not that I would ever be bothered by anything tangible… but I also found it a little uncomfortable.
“I feel bad for you two, but I can’t let you leave right now. You guys are treated as prisoners of the Demon Army, so I can’t even set you free.”
Camille opened his mouth just as we finished getting dressed and Jessha turned to face him, sitting on the couch where we had eaten, while I stood, not sitting down.
“And Aria would probably get out on her own if left alone, but stop for now. To get back to the town of Cutlass from here would require a month or more of crossing the desert or the ruins of the Reiz Veil, and Izelle would know the way through the perimeter of the ruins, so let the three of us escape toward Cutlass before any harm comes to you.”
“What do you mean?”
Izelle interrupted Camille’s words at the mention of our escape.
“What about Camille-sama and Father? They will stay, then I will stay too!”
“Keep your mouth shut, Izelle, and you will leave here with the two of them. If we stay, it won’t necessarily mean that I or Camille-sama will die. I will find a way to survive by giving up my rights.”
Kadori, who had remained silent until then as his daughter started to make a scene, admonished Izelle. But Izelle, perhaps sensing from his words that they were prepared to die, solicited more remarks.
“Then let’s run away together! We shouldn’t have to go along with what those people are doing! Even if going to Khalfaan Empire doesn’t work, there must be a place to escape to, whether it is Ganzar Union or Justa Empire!”
“Izelle…it’s hard for us Dark Elf to live anywhere else.”
