Otome Game no Heroine de Saikyou Survival [WN] - Chapter 175.4
As a result, the interior of the dungeon became more and more complex, and now it was said that no one even knew how many entrances there were. …No wonder there were no windows. If the fortress above had been repeatedly added to and remodeled like the dungeon, there would be no point in having windows.
There were several entrances to the dungeon inside the fort. However, the location of the dungeon from which you enter was not the same. Sometimes the entrance was in the first floor, and sometimes it was in the deepest floor.
That did not necessarily mean that the deepest layer was the closest to the innermost. Because of the complexity of the dungeon, the deepest floor might not be the lowest, and since the time of the first Demon Lord, the selection ceremony had become a [killing] contest because no one could ever reach the deepest level.
Nevertheless, if repeated enough times, they would come to know the points where it would be advantageous to raid the enemy. But such places were held by powerful clans, and other clans did not even know where they were.
In this case, Camille, without such information, could only enter through the first entrance down to the lowest floor, and would be a target of the hostile clans.
As the selection ceremony was about to begin, the clans’ early killing spree had died down.
I guessed that they would have killed each other outside the dungeon when I announced my participation, but they were wary of my first kill, or maybe they thought they could kill me at any time since we could only enter from the first floor, and they only turned on one more warrior who seemed to be Doehill’s subordinate.
But I could not let my guard down. Just as it was possible to kill each other even if the selection ceremony had not yet begun, it was not against the rules for the warriors, who were set at around ten, to kill each other as long as they were not found. It was also possible that the clan could send a large number of their own men to kill them on their own.
“Perhaps we will be targeted by all our enemies. We are few in number. So we all have to stick together.”
There were only five Camille warriors, including him: myself, Jesha, Kadori and Izelle. We didn’t have the numbers to split into rangers and attackers like other clans, so if we were dealing with rangers, the idea wasn’t wrong. But–
“I’m going to move separately.”
“Aria!”
Camille shouts at me as he denied my plan.
“What are you thinking? Don’t underestimate them!”
The warriors of each clan were at least Rank 4; Aishe, Charlemagne, and Doehill would certainly be Rank 5, and that old man…Elgrim…would be in the top 5 or even Rank 6.
“That’s why… That’s why. Camille knows what would happen if we went head-to-head with those guys, right?”
“…”
Kadori and Izelle were only Rank 3 or below among the warriors participating in this selection ceremony.
Kadori was originally Camille’s mother’s attendant, and he was married to a Dark Elf woman who was her attendant in the Demon Nation and gave birth to Izelle.
They were an irreplaceable part of Camille’s family, and they would never stop participating to protect him. They would never stop participating to protect Camille, no matter what we said to them.
And if a mass battle were to break out, their lives would be the first to be lost.
In order to prevent this, Camille and the others would have to direcly conquer the dungeon, which the other clans thought was impossible, and “someone” would have to draw the attention of the other clans.
Even Camille knew this. Even Jessha, whose mindset was more like a fighting maniac, was aware of this. That was why Jesha nodded at my words and smiled ferociously at Camille and the others, who were still not able to sort out their emotions.
“You know who is the right person for the job, don’t you? We’re going to smash the demons in the dungeon and get the proof before Aria dies.”
“…”
Camille clenched his fists tightly at Jesha’s words.
Camille was naive; he had no idea what he was doing. His kindness was a virtue, but it was an illusion that he could protect everything. If you were to become a king, you would have to gain the strength to decide for yourself what you would protect.
But know this. The responsibility may lie with the King, but they also shouldn’t have to bear it all on their own.
“Okay, Aria I believe in you.”
“Leave it to me.”
I believe in you. Camille said that to me, and I would return the trust.
I make Camille a King. To save his and my life. To return to Elena’s side.
I would never die.
“Come on, let’s go.”
Everyone nodded silently at my words and stood up with their weapons.
I, too, wrapped the shawl of demon thread that my master had knitted for me around my neck instead of a cloak, and quietly walked away.
Now, let the killing begin.
