Selection Ceremony 7: After the Battle of Elgrim
Elgrim unleashed his full strength [Fireball], which engulfed the dying and laughing Carla, and the raging flames engulfed and swallowed the fallen warriors of the Magic Clan as well.
“Those who are alive, get back!!!!”
Elgrim shouted in this situation, and the half of the warriors who were able to avoid the flames just in time to be hit by Carla’s [Phantom Pain] were bewildered.
“But, Lord! How could that thing be alive in this situation?”
“There may be warriors still alive in the flames, Elgrim-sama, please allow us to rescue them!”
The four survivors looked at Elgrim with pleading eyes.
Elgrim understood their feelings. They have been under Elgrim’s command for more than a hundred years. They, too, had risked their lives as assassins of the Magic Clan in this selection ceremony, and they were ready to lay down their lives for the clan and to abandon their friends.
However, the warriors who disappeared in the flames were young men, not yet over 50 years old, and they were the younger apprentices of the surviving warriors, like younger brothers or sons who were far apart in age.
Even if they were not, there was a strong bond between them as members of the same clan. And for those who had known those people since they were infants, it was only natural that they would want to help them if they could.
“…back off!!!”
But Elgrim shouted to make his men back down.
The warriors under his command were probably right, there was no way she could survive in this situation. But still, the girl, who looked like a dead woman, survived even in a desperate situation and killed his comrades before she was engulfed by the fireball, a fact that alarmed Elgrim’s sense of danger.
“But-“
As one more of his men was about to object, another warrior stopped him by grabbing him by the shoulder.
“Yes, my lord.”
The oldest man under the Elgrim banner backed down, and the others had no choice but to back down, unable to say anymore.
“–Gah!”
Suddenly, the man vomited blood, and something blazing from behind him pierced his heart.

The warriors, including Elgrim, immediately jumped away from the burning flames, bewildered.
There was no sign of anything. The flames made it impossible to use any kind of appraisal, but even so, they could not feel any kind of life force.

The oldest man was pierced through the heart and attacked behind him while vomiting blood.
His strength was second only to Elgrim in the Magic Clan, and he was Rank 5. With a fighting strength of 1,700, he was once feared on the battlefield as much as the [War Demon], and in his last fatal attack, he stabbed his sword through his stomach and tried to pierce his enemy.
At that moment, however, the “black arm” was pulled out from his chest, and at the same time, his head was grabbed by the other hand and pulled back, and a black shadow surrounded by flames crushed the back of his head with a kick.
