“Damn…how many of them are there?”
Jesha, who waved her two-handed axe of demon steel and sent the blood paste flying, muttered as she spat while looking down abhorrently at the Rank 3 monster she had just smashed, the Thunder Tiger.
“Don’t say that, Jesha; Aria is drawing the enemy’s attention away from us. In the meantime, we’ve decided to move on as far as we can, remember?”
Camille, who was also wiping the blood off the dagger, the magic sword, said this as if to admonish her, and Kadori and Izelle nodded in affirmation, and Jesha let out a sigh.
“…At least if these guys are good, I’ll be motivated.”
“No doubt.”
More than a week had already passed since the selection ceremony began.
Camille and his group were in a position to be targeted by all the participants, but until now they had only fought against the attackers of the magic clan, and had not yet even met warriors of other clans.
They had no scouts to gather information on the enemy and no supply convoys. Some of the clansmen could have provided supplies to Camille being a prince, but due to the difference in power relations, no one could help him directly.
It would be difficult for Camille and his friends to defeat the other clans in a head-to-head battle, as they would have to rely on the monsters in the dungeon for food, worrying about damage to their weapons and armor.
That was why they aimed to win the selection ceremony by using the original method of [Obtaining proof from the deepest part of the dungeon], rather than the method of previous selection ceremonies, which had all been settled by [defeating the enemy clan’s warriors].
But it was not a smooth journey. The reason why the warriors were killing each other in the first place was because no one could reach the innermost part of the dungeon except the first Demon King.
The dungeon under the fortress had become a more complex labyrinth than any other dungeon, and while it was certainly possible to avoid battles with other clans if one went onward, this meant that there were constant monster attacks.
Fortunately, the higher the rank of the monsters, the fewer they appeared, so even Camille and Jesha managed to fight them off, but their faces showed that they were more mentally exhausted than physically after more than a week of dungeon hunting.
The meat of monsters was nutritious, but it was very tough. Even Jesha, who was used to camping out, complained about having to spend more than a week using it as the main ingredient, even if it was only in small quantities.
Still, it was not as bad what Aria was facing, as she was single-handedly stalling and outnumbering the Rank 4 and Rank 5 warriors… Camille and Jesha were both adventurers, used to fighting monsters, but fighting people is not their day job…
“…Something’s coming.”
Jesha steps forward with her weapon at the ready, sensing something urgent in the voice of Izelle, who was scouting in the lead.
“As expected, we can’t avoid everything…”
People were different from monsters, as well. To be precise, monsters did not attack people out of hatred. Only people attack people to commit murder.
With Kadori and Izelle back, Camille steps forward and holds her weapon next to Jesha as several figures emerge from the darkness at the end of the passage.
“Prince Camille…is that you? Where is that woman?”
