- Chapter 108 - Institute City Kruika (1)

“So that is why?…”
A blackboard was set up on one wall of a room with proper desk placements, and an elderly Elf with a full beard periodically scribbled something on it with white chalk, while the kids at the regularly arranged desks jotted down the elderly person’s words or what was written on the blackboard in their notebooks.
Here was the Madosa Institute in Kruika, the capital of Madosa, Senko Country. Located about a day south of Senkonoto (by ordinary human foot), the Institute welcomed almost all those willing to pursue education, regardless of rank, and was the foremost institution in all fields of study in Senko, including history, literature, medicine, politics, agriculture, science, and even magic, which generally tended to be kept secret. Over 70-year-old Elf Marquis Genia=Kelp Madosa, the present ruler of Madosa, served as the institute’s director, and the academy’s graduates—from which he also taught—were well regarded across Senko.
“You know, that teacher?”
“Right…”
While moving through the academy’s hallway, a number of pupils were chit-chatting with one another.
Even though Kruika was surrounded by mountains on all sides, the existence of such a major institute allowed for the establishment of a substantial city, and several smaller institutes were constructed alongside the Madosa Institute.
Over time, Kruika gained the reputation of being the “Institute City,” and people from other neighboring countries, including Senko, began to flock there to pursue their studies.
“I’m curious… Oh, I’m curious… I’m curious I’m curious I’m curious I’m curious I’m curious I’m curious I’m curious I’m curious I’m curious I’m curious I’m curious I’m curious I’m curious.”
“Seriously… don’t you know that our plan first and foremost? Do you understand?”
“Oh, I know. I know, but the things that interest me do interest me… Oh, that’s…”
In a dark room with no sunlight, two men were discussing with each other.
But the more intense the light, the darker the shadows that arise.
An unfathomable darkness was in the reign of a city the size of Kruika, making those who were lurking underground all the more menacing.
Even so, until that day, light and darkness were in harmony, and despite some minor disputes below the surface, tranquility was preserved on the surface.
“At any rate… there don’t seem to be many beasts around, so I suppose I better hide my ears.”
Atop the clock tower, the symbol of the territorial Madosa Institute, a girl in traveling clothes with wolf ears was standing there without being questioned by anyone for some reason.
The wolf ears disappeared from her head as her finger snapped, and the location where she was standing shifted from the clock tower alleyway to a narrow alleyway between buildings.
“The time is a little off from the schedule, but… I guess that’s not a problem, huh? Well then, I guess I better get started on my search.”
She then vanished into the streets of Kruika, and with her in the mix, the day-to-day life of Kruika began to deviate slightly.
?????
“That’s what I mean.” (Pumpkin)
“I see. I’ll accompany you on the journey if that’s the case.” (Majik)
Pumpkin was talking with Tangosack in Maunpir Village three years after the coup d’état by the Fourth Prince Ray.
“Please take good care of her. Even though the Count is giving an escort, there can be no one better than you to protect her.” (Tangosack)
“I get it. Well, I am not too worried because Majik is also coming along with me.” (Pumpkin)
The story was to escort a certain person to their destination.
“Well then, see you later, my pumpkin son.”
“Oh, yeah. See you later, Dad.”
And so, Pumpkin left Tangosack and went to the person he was supposed to be escorting.
“Please take care of me.”
“Yes. I will make sure you reach your destination.”
“Onee-chan, good luck with your magic?”
“Take care?”
“Whenever you feel overwhelmed, come back to us?”
“Yeah. Good luck?”
“I’ll do my best.”
The escort partners… Uriko and Majik bid adieu to Kimiko, Touga, and everyone in Maunpir Village and climbed into the carriage, followed by several knights sent by Count Kunuki.
None of the figures seemed to be revealing their feelings, but they all looked subtly lonely or uneasy. But more than that, they appeared to be filled with anticipation, intrigue, and joy.
“Well then, Pumpkin-dono.”
“I know what to do. I’ll basically stay up there and monitor the area.”
“Please do so. Let’s depart!”
After saying a few words to the head knight who was escorting the carriage, Pumpkin jumped up onto the carriage, and the carriage began to move forward slowly as soon as he did.
The carriage was now headed for Madosa’s capital, Kruika.
The reason why they were heading to Kruika? It was simple.
Over the past three years, Uriko’s talents had been well-known throughout the Kunuki territory, leading to Count Kunuki’s recommendation that Uriko and Majik (as her escort) be enrolled in a school called Madosa Institute.
In all honesty, Pumpkin was reluctant to set out for Kruika, partly in light of the information that Lowizc had provided to him three years earlier. After all, it was unknown specifically what was going to take place there.
Even so, he respected Uriko’s wish and allowed her to go, and instructed Majik to be on the lookout for her over there.
Now, if only everything ended peacefully and uneventfully if at all possible…
?????
“I thought for sure his fate would be different in the absence of his sister. But I suppose I should say, ‘This is inevitable’… I know what’s going to unfold and I can’t change his fate with my power… my power alone will only serve as a repetition.”
In a world where heaven and earth have been inverted, the woman known as Lean traced a string of letters that glowed red like blood.
“Once this happens, it will be up to you and her to change his fate. And if I am discovered and he is saved, I am sure she will not treat the one who has succeeded in doing so with disdain.”
Her fingertips slowly traced the contents of a piece of paper in her hand with a picture of a girl with wolf ears on it.
“If I look at it that way… perhaps I should at least be prepared to drop some hints through that child.”
She then started reciting some sort of chant while copying the forms of four persons in her eyes.

T/N:
The conversation in the latter part is a bit confusing regarding who is the speaker so I am adding the character’s name to it. And this is information about Outer World Story, “Mother,” you can press on the doc to view it. It included all information about each Licorice including spoilers up to date.
