“This will do it.”
”It’s done?!”
”Our glory is here!”
“Even when rain is pouring down, things will be fine?”
Before Pumpkin and the others, a building was erected out of the trees that had been lying around the crater.
Despite calling it a building, the floor was made of soil, and a ramshackle hut was constructed outside the crater, using wood as pillars, walls, and a roof.
“It’s starting to rain. Come inside for now.”
“It’s raining?!”
“Hurry?!”
“We’re going to rot?!”
After the building was completed, the weather threatened to get worse and rain started to shower down, prompting Pumpkin and about 50 other mysterious creatures born from his seeds to head into the building.
Now, this is where the problem comes in.
“First of all, you guys can understand my words, right?”
“Understand?”
“Everything?”
“God, guud luck.”
In response to his words, voices of affirmation came from all over the place.
Though he was already aware that they understood the words from the interaction they had earlier during the building process.
…Judging from their faintly erratic and erroneous use of words, Pumpkin had a feeling that their intelligence was not that high, but that was probably because they had just been born.
In fact, the level of intelligence exhibited by them in handling a conversation from the very beginning was such that made Pumpkin want to thank Lean for it.
“Yeah. Then let me ask you various questions.”
“Roger?”
“Anderstood.”
“Aye-aye?”
He would therefore find out a great deal about these mysterious creatures, but it was very time-consuming though due to the way they spoke.
So, here was a summary of the answers to his questions.
To start with, neither the species’ names nor the names of the individual creatures were given yet.
That would mean that either the names will be thought of later or the nicknames that came naturally to them during the course of the questioning can be adopted as their names.
When the seeds were dispersed by the [Resonance Spell?Atomic Pumpkin], they may have been affected by the Entdragon’s blood that led to their metamorphosis, which might account for how they came into being.
To confirm this, though, Pumpkin would have to take a normal seed from himself and grow it in a standard way.
Moving on to the physical characteristics.
Their height was about 1 meter at the tallest, and they were about three heads tall. However, it varied somewhat from individual to individual, with the smallest being about 70 cm tall and about 2.5 head tall.
Even their weight differed. This might be due to the thickness of the vine or the firmness of the body.
Whether the thickness of the vines or other factors played a role was not clear, but naturally there were differences in strength (?), dexterity, flexibility of the vine, and leaf shape.
These aspects were sort of like personalities.
As for their magical characteristics?
First of all, their magic’s hue corresponded to the attribute of the earth.
And since they can’t fly like Pumpkin, they all seemed to be of earth attribute.
Furthermore, each of them appeared to be able to visually see magic power, despite certain variances in their degree of vision.
However, for each individual, there was a certain disparity in the amount of magic power they possessed, and even if Pumpkin taught them how to use magic, some could perform the simplest magic like [Gust Blow], whereas others couldn’t. Besides, there was a definite discrepancy between individuals who were proficient in strengthening their bodies and those who were not so well-versed in it.
In short, some individuals excelled in combat and some struggled, while others specialized in attack magic and others in reinforcement magic.
Since the absolute amount of magic power was not enough… it was still unknown whether they could use resonance magic or not.
Continuing on to the mental characteristics.
The mentality of this one was basically infantile, partly due to the fact that they were just born. They do, nevertheless, pay attention when spoken to, and given their recognition of Pumpkin as their ruler and their behaviors throughout the construction of this building, it would be reasonable to assume that they have the capacity to learn and work well with others.
Consequently, depending on their future growth, there may be a spectrum of expectations from them.
As far as can be confirmed, none of them had any recollections of their past lives. However, according to Crave and Kozo, there existed individual variations in the timing of recalling memories of previous lives, and most awaken around the time of the onset of secondary sex characteristics, which suggested that there were none at present that could recollect memories of their former lifetimes.
Lastly, there was the question of dietary life.
Apparently, if it was just a matter of survival, water, sunlight, and some nutrients from the soil would be adequate, just as it was for Pumpkin.
However, there was one major difference between Pumpkin and them.
While Pumpkin can only consume food by sucking it up from his roots, they can do it through one of the holes in their fruit part, which served as their head.
They apparently cannot voluntarily modify the basic shape or assembly of the vines that make up their bodies, but instead have what animals call stomachs and intestines.
This is frustrating… How frustrating…
Oh, they are omnivores by the way. In addition to meat, they also eat fruits and vegetables.
Well, their appetite seems to be weak but they have a high yearning for sunshine, so it is possible that food is not essential for their survival (in a sense, this could also be called appetite).
“Hmm. I suppose that’s about it.”
“Good work?[i]”
“We have no spices[ii].”
“Let’s dance??”
“Stark.”
And it took about three days to wrap it all up.
It was basically like dealing with a toddler, which was incredibly exhausting and stressful since the discourse would veer off very swiftly.
They were excellent listeners, and that was the only thing that helped.
“After this, I have to take the kid with good hearing and tell Mizuki and father… and then either Kozo ojii-san or Crave. If they mistake them for magical beasts, that would be too tragic.”
Pumpkin headed out of the structure.
The rain has already subsided and a rainbow has formed in the sky. Perhaps the end of the rainy season was just around the corner.
A lake had also formed in the crater directly next to the structure before he realize it, presumably as a result of the prolonged rain. It was fortunate that there was no need to worry about the shortage of water, though.
“Come to think of it, I haven’t named my race yet.”
[[[?]]]
A thought struck Pumpkin at this point, and he looked over the information he’d written and contemplated briefly.
They were born from the blood of a dragon on my seeds. And I forgot the details, but I believe there is a myth that claims that in a past existence, humans with superior fighting ability were born from a part of a dragon’s body.
So I shall name them the “Spalpkin” to ensure they will have a long life.
“‘Spalpkin’. That is our name.”
——————
A/N:
A new race Spalpkin has appeared.
Incidentally, in terms of status, agility, dexterity, and spirit are high, while strength and HP are low.
In TRPG terms, they are like a thief who can use magic mainly for auxiliary purposes.
T/N:
The baby pumpkins cannot speak very well so their words are a jumble, I translated it into more comprehensible words but the original words are basically just a few words. And the word glory, anderstood, guud luck, stark are nutrient, understood, good luck, and start respectively
[i] ?????, it means thanks for your hard work, a relevant part to ii
[ii] This one heard wrong, ??? means curry, that’s why they said we don’t have any spice. Actually, both of them said and heard wrong but forget about it, I am not going to explain further since it’s inconsequential and going to be quite lengthy for a simple thing
