Drifting Ship Disturbance (14) – Letters and Parting

“You have no idea how much I’ve fantasized about severing you in two with my sword!”

General Gafor laughed when he told Rays-sama this. We were now being welcomed warmly by the Imperial Knights after successfully transporting Luluria and her people to the Empire.

The drunk General Gafor was constantly drinking with Rays-sama. It seemed like this was how the General usually spoke, and his poor aide was frantically trying to explain to Rays-sama that the General was drunk, he was just joking, and so on.

It was the first time the Rudek soldiers had ever escorted the Empire’s people to the Empire, thus there was some tension, but it seemed to have dissipated due to the alcohol. Not just General Gafor, but soldiers from the two supposedly antagonistic countries were drinking together.

Of course, the Empire could now annihilate the relaxed 10th Division, but if the Empire did that to us who came with good intentions, they would immediately lose the trust of all nations.

As a result, the usually dangerous imperial land has become a quite safe place just for this moment.

I stayed at the banquet for a while and then left when I believed the moment was appropriate. I told Wickharlt, who was about to follow me, that I was exhausted and needed to rest to stop him from following me.

After that, I walked to where Prince Tsetsedra and Luluria were sitting and exchanged a quick greeting before asking Luluria about the letter she promised.

“I’ll prepare the letter before you leave,” Luluria responded, after explaining about tar to Prince Tsetsedra, who had asked her.

Tar couldn’t be used in war, so I doubt Prince Tsetsedra would object to Luluria assisting the Rudek Kingdom in obtaining tar. Furthermore, I asked Luluria about the letter in front of the prince so that the prince would be aware of the content of the letter that his wife would later send me.

After all, he might not be pleased to learn that his wife was sending a letter to a person from an enemy country, so I thought it best to inform the prince about my and Luluria’s correspondence ahead of time.

“Thank you so much. By tomorrow, I’ll also have a letter with instructions on how to cook pogee and other dishes ready for you,” I said.

This was my main objective. I wanted to create a circumstance in which it wouldn’t be strange for me to write a letter to Luluria.

My statement piqued Prince Tsetsedra’s interest.

“Luluria, you can cook?”

“I can. When I was at Rudek Kingdom, I spent my time cooking with this Roa-sama, Wickharlt-sama, who was sitting over there, and a female named Rufa, who is not present here. I hope you can enjoy my cooking, Tsetsedra-sama.”

“I’m looking forward to it,” Prince Tsetsedra said affectionally.

Even if we came here with good intentions, it was impossible for the Empire to welcome a group of enemy soldiers into the fortress, therefore the Empire had several tents prepared for us in the surrounding area.

I entered the tent to which I had been allocated, took out a piece of paper and a pen, and began writing while using a random box as a desk.

“Thank you for taking care of us, everyone. I wish you a safe journey home.”

The following morning. Today was the day we’d go back to Rudek. Luluria spoke one or two words with each of the 10th Division knights in front of the row of imperial knights.

She came to me last.

“Here is the letter I promised,” She said as she handed me two letters.

Prince Tsetsedra, who had heard about our promise the day before, was merely standing there calmly watching us.

“Why did you give me two letters?”

“One letter is for tar trade, and the other is for Rufa. Can you give it to her?”

“Of course. Rufa will be happy.”

“I hope she will. Thank you.”

“Well, then, these are from me.”

“Why did you give me two letters?”

Luluria had the same reaction as I did.

“The first is the recipe. The other is, well, you should read it when you’re alone with Prince Tsetsedra.”

“When we’re alone? You mean it’s okay for Tsetsedra-sama to read it as well?”

“Of course. That letter is a small good luck charm from me. You can throw it away if you don’t think you need it after reading it.”

“A good luck charm…?” Luluria accepted the two letters with skepticism.

This was all I could do.

The second letter was about the scheme of the Second Prince and the ministers.

I heard a disturbing rumor from merchants in Gedland that the Second Prince and the ministers were secretly gathering weapons, so maybe something horrible was about to happen. Although what I heard was only a rumor, the source was reliable. I’ll let you two decide what to do with this information.

That was the content of the letter.

The Gedland Port was under the control of the 3rd Division, thus such information could not have reached me. In addition, the last time I was there was the first time in a long while.

But Luluria didn’t know that. All she knew was the fact I was from a village near Gedland so she’d probably trust me if I said I knew something about what was going on around the port.

I wasn’t sure what Prince Tsetsedra would do after reading the letter.

What would happen in the future would depend on their decision.

But, at the very least, I hoped they had a bright future ahead of them.

That was what I secretly thought as I left the Empire and glanced up at the sky.
