- Chapter 63 - Training Mission (4) - The 2nd Division
Training Mission (4) – The 2nd Division
After finishing our bandits’ subjugation mission, we rode our horses to the west. Our destination was a medium-sized fort called Yufe. Lately, the 2nd Division often used it as their base.
“It might rain soon…” Frein, who was riding his horse beside me, muttered.
There was something in my mind that made me want to meet the leader of the 2nd Division.
That was why I told Wickharlt, Diku, Luzel, and Frein that I wanted to take advantage of the vacation period after completing the mission to meet the 2nd Division and they all said they would accompany me.
I told them, “You don’t need to come, you know. You can just stay here and relax. It’s a good place to go sightseeing.”
“Roa-dono, I’m your close aide. It is only natural for me to accompany you. In addition, it will be easier for you to meet and talk with Nidhogg if I’m with you.”
That’s how Wickharldt replied to me back then, so in the end, they all came with me to Yufe Fortress.
By the way, Nidhogg was the name of the Commander of the 2nd Division.
During the bandit subjugation mission, Wickharlt didn’t voice his own opinion. He just quietly listened to the conversation between me, Luzel, and Frein.
Wickharlt himself may be in the process of exploring his own position in the Roa Brigade.
Diku basically never voiced his own opinion in strategical matters. However, if I moved, he would always follow me. That seemed to be the role Rays-sama gave to him.
As for Luzel and Frein, I was pretty sure they just wanted to see the 2nd Division, the sole knight division that was composed of only cavalry.
The vacation we were given was 3 days. We must return to Ohkur by the evening of the third day. Considering the distance from Ohkur to Yufe, I could only stay in Yufe for a few hours at most. If we were unlucky enough and arrived at Yufe Fortress when the 2nd Division was out, there is a good chance that our trip would end in vain.
“If it rains, it might be easier for us to meet them,” Wickharlt commented. Currently, the 2nd Division didn’t have any major missions, so they probably wouldn’t leave the fortress if it was raining.
“But if it ends up raining heavily, it will be difficult for us to continue our journey. Maybe we should hurry up a little. Diku, can you keep up with us?”
“I should be fine,” Diku, riding a little behind me, replied in a leisurely manner. Regardless of his reply, his riding skill was pretty good. As expected as a member of the 10th Division. He was a fast learner.
“Okay. Then let’s pick up the pace,” Luzel said and sped up. Seeing Luzel, Frein also sped up, and seeing Frein, Luzel increased his speed even more…
I sighed as I saw the figure of the two become smaller and smaller.
Wickharlt let out a wry smile. Then, he turned to me.
“I don’t think we need to increase our speed by that much. In any case, shall we also go?”
“Yeah, let’s go.”
I lightly kicked Aro in the stomach and increased my speed.

“Is this Yufe Fortress?”
The rain we were worried about stopped at night, and although the ground was a little slippery, we arrived at our destination safely.
As we approached the fortress, a flag inside of the fortress was waved towards us. It was a signal that warned us to stop. I didn’t have time to contact them in advance, so I figured this would happen.
We stopped our track, and after a while, several cavalrymen approached us from the fortress.
“Wickharlt-sama?”
One of the cavalrymen looked at Wickharlt and asked. It seems that Wickhardt was an acquaintance of his.
“Captain Rezol? It’s been a while.”
“It certainly has been..but why are you here? I’m sure you are…”
He stopped his words there. He was probably being considerate of Wickharlt’s feelings.
“Yeah, as you have probably heard, I have resigned as the Commander. Currently, I have become a member of the 10th Division as Roa-dono’s aide.”
“Roa-dono? Not Grantz-sama or Lapilia-sama? Pardon my rudeness, but that’s a name I don’t hear very often. Are you that Roa-dono?”
“Yes, I am Roa. Rays-sama has entrusted me with the Roa Brigade. These two are my brigade’s captains, Luzel and Frein. And this here is also my aide, Diku.”
“I have heard of Captain Luzel’s name. He is leading the only cavalry unit of the 10th Division.”
As expected of a fellow cavalry unit captain.
“My name is Luzel. I have also heard of your name before, Captain Rezol. It’s an honor to meet you.”
“The honor is mine, Captain Luzel. So, you are currently a member of the Roa Brigade?”
“Yes. It was a brigade formed just a month ago. Our brigade is the third brigade of the 10th Division, after the Grantz Brigade and Lapilia Brigade.”
“I see. So, what brings the members of the Roa Brigade to come to a place like this, and with such a small number of people?”
“Actually, since our brigade has just been formed, we came here to subjugate bandits who had appeared near the Three Goddesses Spring. This area is also the base of the 2nd Division, so we came here to greet you. In addition, we, the 10th Division have also increased our number of cavalry. The Roa Brigade will operate as a cavalry, so we would like to ask the 2nd Division for advice. I apologize for not sending a message beforehand. If the 2nd Division is currently busy, we will immediately head back.”
And I just tell him the excuse I’ve prepared all at once.
“I see. Cavalry….” Captain Rezol’s gaze softens a little.
It seemed like using ‘we, the new cavalry, want to ask the Second Division to teach us,’ as an excuse was effective.
“It would be disrespectful to turn you away after you’ve come all the way here. I’ll ask for permission from our Commander, so could you all please wait here for a while?”
“We will do so. My apologies for bothering you.”
“Please don’t be. Besides, it’s raining in the middle of the night, so many knights are off duty today. We might be able to share plenty of useful things with you all.”
After saying that, Captain Rezol left.
Not long after, we were invited into the fortress.
