Max also gave Gid a half-glare from behind.

Whether it was because he couldn’t read the air, or because he was cornered into thinking he had no other choice, Gid pushed his daughter forward, who was still slumped over, and still continued to speak.

“She had a fiancée, but I broke it off. I thought my daughter would be happier by the side of someone like you.” (Gid)

Gid’s targeting of Welner may ironically have been due to another aspect of Welner’s reputation: as Grand Duke Seyfart jokingly put it, “With Laura, the second princess, and Lily, the hero’s sister, you already have enough to deal with”.

Although there were no laws in this world for favoring the heroes or their family members, there was no doubt that Gid looked at Welner as if he were someone easy to manipulate. Of course, it was also true that he thought the younger Welner would be easier to work with.

Unfortunately for Gid, he did not know that Welner’s previous life knowledge made him think differently from his age. It was not uncommon in his past life for people to flirt with a victor and be dangled with a bait this way, not only in the Middle Ages, but also in modern times.

And knowledge from his previous life also taught him how to deal with such situations and how to be appreciated by the people. Knowing this, Welner replied without showing his anger.

“Schunzel, for now, call the innkeeper and give this young lady a bath.” (Welner)

“Ok, I will.” (Schunzel)

Gid beamed with delight.

Welner then approached Gid with an ostensibly calm expression.

“Unfortunately, I have some urgent paperwork to take care of. You can rest in the other room.” (Welner)

“Ha.” (Gid)

“Neurath, please treat Mister Gid politely.” (Welner)

He beckoned Max, this time without hiding his sarcastic expression, as the four of them left the room, each with an unspoken instruction to keep Gid and the girl under house arrest.

“I told Schunzel to give her a bath, but I don’t remember saying I will be receiving her.” (Welner)

“I suppose it’s the other party who misunderstood.” (Max)

Max’s voice was as cold as Welner’s. He was probably angry at Gid for underestimating Welner, and he was also annoyed by the fact that Gid was willing to outright sell out his daughter because she was a knight working under him.

“It would be a bit troublesome if his daughter commits suicide, so please be careful with that.” (Welner)

“Yes, sir, but what about Welner-sama?” (Max)

“When Neurath and the others return, I’m going to see Earl Harfolk first, and Max, tell our scouts to get to work on something urgent.” (Welner)

After giving some instructions, Welner stood up as well. He made no attempt to hide his displeasure at the extra work, so the knights who passed him looked at him surprised and then looked away.

Welner gave some instructions to Neurath and Schunzel as they walked along, and then went on to ask at several places, making arrangements to borrow the necessary number of people and otherwise carry out the staged performance after this.

It was almost daylight when numerous knights lined up in front of the Chamber of Commerce, where the entire building was disheartened by the news that the city was occupied by Welner, as well as the breaking of an engagement between eldest son of Chamber of Commerce’s chairman and daughter of deputy in charge of Foan city.

Soon, however, a girl got off the carriage that was following Welner and immediately went to hug the son of the chairman, who was surprised by the event, and was then moved to tears.

“Bert-sama ah!” (Girl)

“Oh, Annika! Why are you here?” (Bert)

“I’m sorry to interrupt your emotional reunion, but you must be Bert Lammerz.” (Welner)
