Chapter 52: Sky exploration team (trial version)
The entire area where our base is located seems to be the domain of the wind god.
That means that, at least until the wind god is released and the management of the land resumed, while it’s relatively safe due to the influence of the creator god and me, but it is still somewhat unstable.
Therefore, new dungeons will appear from time to time, and if they are not discovered and purified while they are small, they will become a source of miasma.
However, even if we try to search for dungeons frequently, there is an overwhelming lack of manpower. Searching them from the sky on Zephyr’s back, which I am counting on, is still a long way off since the Zephyr is only large enough to carry Fin.
… That’s what I was thinking but-
“… I, if it’s only to search for them, I’d like to try it.”
“Huh?”
Such a proposal was made by Fin, the person in question.
Certainly, if it’s only to search for dungeons, in case that she discovers a one, after I recover enough to explore, I can just go there to purify it, depending on the location and scale, I might need to ask Regulus and Liese to help.
Currently, there is no work that only Fin can do at the base (in the first place, the scale of the base is small enough that I can do it alone, and I’m automating as much as possible to reduce my own work as much as possible so that I can concentrate on making things. Still, I’m sharing the load because I want them to participate in the process of making of things, even if only a little.) so It’s okay if she isn’t always here, and I’m grateful that she can help me search for dungeon… But even though she’s with Zephyr, I feel anxious about letting a child go somewhere I can’t see.
“You should just let her go.”
“Uru?”
“She also has Rion’s return stone, so if she feels that’s dangerous, she can return right away, right?”
Now that she mentioned it, there is a way to return immediately, and here is not a dangerous area to go like the Abandoned Continent, so considering whether it’s a valid option or not, it’s a valid option…?
“Fricka, what do you think about?”
“… It’s a bit worrisome, but…”
Fricka looks at Fin, and she made a confident face.
Fricka stared her face for a while, but… Fin stared back without any sign of giving up, so Fricka seemed to have given up first.
“It seems like her will is strong, so I guess as long as Rion-sama allows it.”
“Hmm…”
There’s no clear reason to say no, so if it’s okay with both Uru and Fricka, I think it’s fine to let her have a try.
“I understand. But please wait until I prepare the equipment.”
“Yay!”
After that I created a lot of things.
First of all, the saddle and reins to attach to the Zephyr are essential. There is a big difference in stability between having them and not having.
I made the equipment Fin will wear of leather since Zephyr doesn’t seem able to withstand the weight of a metal one. However, it is fully enchanted with all enchantments that can be applied at present time.
Also, I made a hooded robe from Zephyr’s scales to protect Fin from the wind. It’s probably windy up there. Just for the record, the scales were collected from the ones that were lying around, is not like I plucked them from Zephyr… I’d like to be able to research Zephyr’s blood someday too… I don’t care if it’s about my own, but it’s not ethical to ask that from someone else.
Afterwards, I gave them as much food and medicine as they could carry. I’m being overprotective? No, no, even this is not enough.
“Also, this is a map. Just write down the terrain or anything you find with this pencil.”
I don’t know how it works, but some parts already been filled out when I created it. Apparently they’re the places I’ve visited in the past.
There are a lot of white areas on the map, and the fact that there are so many places I haven’t been to yet makes me excited to explore… But unfortunately, I don’t have that much time to fill in the map.
“What I want you to write down is the locations of dungeons, the location any village that you can find, and even if it’s not a village, if you find some kind of building mark it in the map… Other than that, anything that caught your attention.”
“Huh… I don’t know how to distinguish what’s a dungeon and what’s not one…”
“That’s right. Basically, any place where there are a lot of monsters even during the day. Also… I don’t think there are many, but places where there is a lot of miasma.”
“Then, finally, this is a magic tool with the Hiding magic granted to it.”
“… To escape if we meet monsters?”
“That’s one case, but in case that someone sees Zephyr, they might think ‘A dragon is attacking us!?’ and start to panicking.”
For now, the only place that’s okay to go is Bartle Village. Ah, maybe I’ll take Zephyr to Grosso Village sometime soon? Maybe because of the stuffed animals, Liese said that there are people who said “I want to meet the real one!”.
As expected, it is not possible to attack unilaterally while hiding. Another drawback is that it cannot be sustained for a long time.
Also, it doesn’t work against opponents like Zephyrus who use wind like a sensory organ, or opponents like Uru who are sensitive to presences. I can’t believe that a such strong being is in this area, but I would like her to flee immediately at the first sign of danger.
The south of this place is the sea, and the east is the forest… I heard that there’s a sea far beyond that, but I haven’t seen it yet. The directions that land continues is to the north and west, but the north and west are separated by a large river, and there seems to be no place where you can cross to the other side on foot. Aside from the south, the rest is quite far away, so no matter how much travel by air is fast, you probably won’t be able to get there until dawn.
Camping or flying through the night are obviously prohibited. Please come back when you are tired, or at the latest in the evening!
And for a while I was saying things to be careful about, but… I wonder if it’s okay, can she remember all?
“… I-It’s okay, I think.”
“Well, Zephyr help her as well.”
“Kyuu.”
Even though it was a single day trip, the trip seemed to have had a big impact on Fin, who knew little about other places besides Alness Village and our base. Being able to look down and see far into the distance from the sky was a great experience, and must have been a great experience. Although there were many days when there was nothing to see (It would be a problem if she discovered anything other than a village), she was excited and talked happily about it. We all listened while relaxing.
I was grateful that I was able to understand the terrain, albeit roughly, and I was very happy that they brought back some rare materials.
Of course, there were some dungeons. We decided to go to the nearby places ourselves or ask Regulus and Liese to destroy them, and to go to the far places at a later date. Fortunately, no miasma was found. Well, just because it doesn’t exist now doesn’t mean it won’t exist in the future, so we need to be careful.
She said that they have found some ruins here and there, so I would like to go there when I have time. During the game, most of them were a miss, but sometimes I could find rare items.
Once, when she helped someone who was being attacked by a monster, she and Zephyr were seen together and she reported to me fearfully, but instead I just praised them and said, “You did a good job.” … I had no idea that the story of a dragon tamer girl would later spread in the village where the person that they helped lived. But well, It wasn’t spreading in a bad way, so it’s okay.
And just like that, Fin’s work ended with great success without any major problems. Or rather, after they did a general survey of the surrounding area, while the frequency has decreased, they have been continuing working steadily.
But I’m jealous… I want to travel in the air too…
Zephyr, can you please grow up quickly?
When I fed him a lot of food with great expectations, Uru complained that he grew horizontally instead of vertically. Hahaha.
