The Legitimate Daughter Doesn’t Care! - Chapter 13
Upon entering the classroom, Xu Xinduo was sure that this was the smaller class because this classroom only had seven students including her. Even with Mu Qianya, who was an exchange student that has yet to return, there were only eight students in the class.
There was a big long table in the middle of the classroom where each of the students sat around.
The teacher pointed to an empty seat and said to Xu Xinduo, “You can sit here, no one is occupying this seat.”
Xu Xinduo nodded and then sat down.
When she sat down, she looked around and saw that Mu Qingyao and Shen Zhuhang were sitting diagonally opposite of her. Both of them were looking at her coldly.
There was a boy sitting across from her. He looked at her and smiled, appearing to be sweet-tempered. The boy’s skin was slightly morbid and fair, appearing to be a bit sickly and weak. His gentle and handsome face seemed to make him seem like a Male God (1).
(T/N: In Chinese schools, there’s terms like ‘Male God’ or ‘Female Goddess’ that describe a male/female student that is idolised and admired by the students, mostly for looks but occasionally personality or just overall vibe)
Xu Xinduo nodded at him in reply.
The teacher took Xu Xinduo’s answer sheet and began to check it. Then, he wrote the marks on it and said, “Not bad, you have passed the test. Your accuracy is pretty good too, but try to answer more questions next time.”
Xu Xinduo nodded, “Okay.”
Hearing the teacher’s comment, Mu Qingyao couldn’t help but laugh.
‘She passed the test’, he said.
What a laugh.
There weren’t many questions on the paper and the scoring system was out of 100 marks in total. Everyone else in the class had also taken the same test as well. Most of them scored more than 90 points but only Shao Qinghe scored full marks. It was ridiculous to learn that Xu Xinduo had just passed the test. Sure enough, even if she was the top student of a rural high school, she wouldn’t be able to compare with the elite academic standards in urban areas.
Shen Zhuhang whispered to Mu Qingyao, “I think it’s pretty good considering she didn’t just hand in a blank sheet of paper.”
“Don’t say that; she was the top girl in her town,” Although she seemed to be talking on behalf of Xu Xinduo, she repeatedly mentioned her rural upbringing.
The two of them talked in hushed volumes, but since the classroom was almost empty considering there was only a small number of people in it, their voices could be clearly heard by everyone.
The teacher immediately said, “Be quiet, let’s start the class.”
The students didn’t say anything and just started to move their chairs.
Xu Xinduo was puzzled but she also moved her chair backwards. These were swivel chairs so they could be easily moved around.
After the students adjusted to their new spots, the teacher pressed on a button, and the originally rectangular-shaped table transformed into a V-shaped table, expanding outwards. The students who originally sat at the forefront were moved to the back after the change.
Xu Xinduo and the boy sitting opposite her were the backbenchers— no wonder these seats were empty.
Xu Xinduo didn’t care much. Actually, it didn’t matter where she sat. She just took out a book and pen from her bag and began to listen carefully.
She noticed that there was a girl beside her that was constantly stealing glances at her.
Once, twice… She has peeped at her five times now!
She looked strangely in her direction and caught the gaze of a sweet-looking girl. But when she saw Xu Xinduo looking back at her, she hurriedly turned away looking flustered and embarrassed.
Xu Xinduo didn’t care, so she just continued to listen to the teacher.
The girl carefully covered her head and then took out her mobile phone to send some messages.
Xu Xinduo noticed the little movements of the girl while taking notes and she whispered, “Are you all right?”
The girl waved repeatedly, “I’m… I’m okay.”
After that, Xu Xinduo no longer brought up the topic again.
