Chapter 28 – Detachment
When Kureha Shun was a child, he met an angel.
He was six years old by then.
“Nice to meet you, Shun-kun.”
He still remembered how the smile of a girl named Uta Miyako grabbed his heart.
Even though he was a six-year-old boy who did not have a matured sense of beauty and did not understand romantic feelings properly, he fell in love with Miyako’s face, her innocent personality, and everything about her.
Miyako also treated him favorably, and he thought they would be good partners.
-Despite that
“Haru-kun, let’s play together!”
The presence of Haruka made Shun’s expression cloud over.
Miyako was always close to Haruka.
She always put Haruka first in everything she does, she always wanted to be by Haruka’s side.
Shun felt a pain in his heart that that was inappropriate for his age.
It was strong sense of inferiority and a blackened feeling of jealousy that no child should have.
Haruka and Miyako often played with each other. From a little distance from them was Shun glaring at Haruka. He glared at him as if he killed his parents.
Shun’s obsession was so strong that he never left Miyako’s side no matter how much he was hurt.
That was because Miyako always had an angelic smile on her face, accepted him, and allowed him to be with her.
Perhaps because of this kind childhood, Shun’s spirit matured earlier than others.
From the time he was ten years old, he dabbled in various fields and made his mark with his talents.
All in order to win Miyako’s heart.
It was obvious from the world that adults value status more than anything else, and it is something one learned in school.
[Make use of your talent, leave something good, and those who have nothing are equally inferior.]
Believing that if he improved his status, Miyako would be interested in him, Shun devoted himself to his studies.
When he reached the age of eleven and matured mentally, people around him noticed his good looks and were attracted to his exceptional talent.
Although he was now getting on in age, his devotion to Miyako remained unchanged.
Miyako grew up to be a beautiful girl and was very popular. She was already working as a model.
Haruka, who had nothing to offer, gradually fell out of everyone’s circle. Shun scoffed at him, thinking that it was a good thing.
By the age of thirteen, Miyako finally showed interest in Shun.
She often gave priority to Shun over Haruka.
A tremendous sense of accomplishment and relief filled his heart.
Finally, Miyako had chosen him.
He felt the pain in his heart slowly fade away.
Men and women of their age are sensitive about their love affairs. Beautiful men and women, talented people, people whisper that Shun and Miyako are the perfect couple for each other.
Haruka clings to the past and desperately denies it, which ended up with him being shunned.
In order to attract Miyako’s attention, Haruka tried to make his appearance more flashy, such as getting a tattoo on his cheek, getting pierced, and changing his hair color brighter, but all of it ended in vain.
It only made the people around him feel uncomfortable and made him more isolated.
It was ridiculous.
No matter how much he tried, Miyako’s attention was completely focused on Shun.
Convinced that Miyako was completely his, he played around with other women.
Even though he played with girls, Miyako was still affectionate to him. He fully understood that he was special to her.
After entering high school, Shun met a number of beautiful and eye-catching girls.
Naturally, he wanted to have them, too, but they were all girls who did not sell themselves short, as they were enrolled in the most prestigious A-10 school.
Polygamy is a dream relationship for men, but not for women.
Women who are part of a polygamous relationship are ridiculed and scoffed at as pathetic women who abandon their pride to flatter men.
Especially, Shinku, Yunika, and Hibiki are very proud and seem to be difficult to defeat.
However, secondary school education lasts for six years.
During these six years, Shun was going to make them fall in love with him so much that they would accept polygamy.
Just then, an incident occurred.
It seems that the girl that Shun was after, Claudia, had went on a date with Haruka.
He knew that they had been in contact with each other since playing the Apocalypse horror game, but he had no idea that they had gotten along so well that they were going on dates.
His heart ache, an old wound.
If he doesn’t do something, it will start hurting again.
He won’t let anyone else go to Haruka.
Not Miyako, not Shinku, not any of the other beautiful girls.
Controlling his troubled heart and keeping his composure, Shun turned to Shinku and said to her.
“Well then, Shinku, how about going on a date with me this time?”
Shinku gladly accepted Shun’s invitation.
His worries were unfounded, by the look on Shinku’s face, she really only cared about Haruka as a social study.
Shinku was a status-conscious girl, and there was no way that she would like Haruka in the first place.
Shun pats his chest in relief.
He was worried about Miyako who suddenly starts to take a day off from school, either for work or for playing games, but he still thinks about his date with Shinku.
?
Claudia Shinku succeeded in getting Shun’s attention as she had planned.
If only she could have a capable man like Shun for a husband, she would be able to proudly face her six sisters who are always mounting each other about their husbands and their own status, her parents, who consider status important, and two or three other people that she knew who were also very proud.
What she has to be careful of is that Shun will most likely choose polygamy for himself and press for it.
If she allows polygamy, her sisters will mount her and ridicule her. Her parents would also look at her with disappointment.
She must somehow convey her attractiveness to him and keep his attention to herself.
However, it was a little difficult for her because she was not adept at romance, so she has to be basically passive.
(I wonder if Obi-san is familiar with such things.)
Shinku pictured the face of a man who she had a fake date with the other day in order to bring Shun down.
Tattooed from his left cheek to his lower jaw in the shape of a flame and always wearing multiple piercings, he is a man of a race that she never thought she would have anything to do with in her life.
He was, however, a rather normal man on the inside, he just has a flamboyant appearance.
After some research on how to attract a guy’s attention on the Internet, she went on her date with Shun.
Unlike the time of the date with Haruka, they met up with each other at around 10:00 A.M.
The purpose of the date was to spend more time together and to convey her charm to him as much as possible.
Together with Shun, they went to an amusement park.
It is a huge amusement park called [Mobiusland] covering an area of 30 square kilometers.
They shared a good time at the attractions that were like a trip to another world, with an atmosphere different from that of the virtual world.
As she have already known from their past meetings, Shun is a good talker. Their conversation never stops.
He was a good listener, and when there is a break in the conversation, he offers a new topic to expand on.
With a soft smile on Shinku’s face, she enjoyed her date with Shun.
However, the situation gradually becomes more and more suspicious.
From time to time, Shun’s behavior becomes strange.
The reason was pretty obvious. In short, Shun was replying to messages or chats via Talisman.
If Shun were as popular as Shinku thinks he was, he must have been receiving love calls from many women constantly.
He seemed to be replying to them in a polite manner.
A small bruise hit on Shinku’s self-esteem.
Shun probably thought that he was able to hide it well, since message windows are not visible to others.
It was easy to type responses with just a thought even while having a conversation in real life.
However, Shinku had a keen intuition. She had noticed every time Shun had devoted his attention to replying to the messages.
Even though it was an important date for the sake of her future, she couldn’t help but feel cold.
She let out a small sigh.
(This is no better than the date with Obi-san, isn’t it?)
She remembers the man who was smiling at her, looking at Shinku’s face so much that it was depressing.
Haruka had been thinking seriously about her clothes, and he had been conscious of her all the time.
She couldn’t help but compare them, since she just had a date with Haruka just last week.
In her mind, she blamed Shun, if he was at all interested in her, he should at least focus on her on their date.
(Maybe I’m just not attractive enough for you…)
Shinku knew it was not possible, but she felt uneasy.
The date goes on with her unhappy thoughts. After going around the standard course, they broke up around 6:00 P.M and headed back home.
Shinku was determined to make Shun so obsessed with her that he wouldn’t even think about replying to his messages one day, but her heart was so cold.
It was natural that she was not enthusiastic, since she was only looking for a partner for status, for family, and for the world’s approval.
She has yet to experience true love, the kind of love that makes everything else irrelevant.
