[Vol. 2] Chapter 15: Rice Eaters, Rice Soul
“Hush, Ifia, calm down, calm down.” Just as Ifia was about to deliver a decisive blow to the other party, a familiar voice sounded in her ears, making Ifia frown in confusion. How could it be her?
Seeing Ifia calm down, the other party quickly let go of her hand. Then, with a teasing tone, she said, “Ifia, I didn’t expect you, being so petite, to have such strength.”
Upon hearing this, Ifia sighed and turned to look at her, questioning, “Austin, what were you just doing?”
Why is everyone wandering around outside instead of sleeping?
In the dim moonlight, Ifia could vaguely see Austin smiling, her emerald green eyes seemingly glowing. She shrugged helplessly at Ifia, indicating that what happened just now was not intentional.
“If I were you, I would go back to the dormitory immediately.”
However, Austin clearly had no intention of confessing, avoiding the topic and causing Ifia to roll her eyes.
Rudeni didn’t want her to approach Saint Tiffany for fear of danger. Now, Austin was also urging her to leave, suggesting that this church was a pitfall. Just approaching it would lead to misfortune.
“Austin, you’re very suspicious.”
“Oh, dear, I am the righteous side~ If you’re really curious, there’s no harm in telling you. It’s not a big deal anyway, someone inside is stealing things.”
“!!!”
“Don’t disclose it to others~” Facing Ifia’s suspicious gaze, Austin chuckled lightly, and then didn’t continue to explain.
Upon hearing her words, Ifia remained skeptical and began shouting at the system.
[System, is someone really stealing things in the back hall?]
[Yes!]
With the system’s confirmation, Ifia became even more unwilling to get involved. So, she waved goodbye with a smile to Austin, turned around, and quickly disappeared from Austin’s sight.
Left behind, Austin raised her eyebrows in surprise. She didn’t expect Ifia to actually believe her. Perhaps even a three-year-old wouldn’t believe such a statement. Could it be that Ifia is a gullible fool?
With these thoughts, Austin’s gaze turned to the back hall. A mocking smile crept onto her lips as she thought about casting a long line to catch big fish, expecting to catch all the mice in the church soon.
[System, I really want to leave now! Didn’t you say the church isn’t a key plot point? Why are there still so many troublesome things!]
Hastily returning to her dormitory and lying on the bed, Ifia immediately complained to the system. She was beginning to regret taking on the internship at the church.
[Host, it’s just your bad luck. But as long as you resist curiosity and stay away from these troubles, the next nine days will surely be safe and sound.]
Listening to the system’s reassurance, Ifia felt like it was raising a flag. Although she wanted to ask who Austin really was, she reminded herself that it was just a short internship.
(-_-)
Better not get involved in the internal affairs of the church.
To avoid trouble.
Amelia is still waiting for her back at Pulis Academy!
Sleep, sleep, continue working tomorrow!
As Ifia was about to fall asleep, determined not to get into trouble, the system, who was waiting for her to continue questioning, found it strange to see her already asleep.
If it were any other time, the host would have succumbed to curiosity and kept asking questions.
Why choose silence this time???
Except for not revealing information about the main characters, other people’s information doesn’t matter.
The system checked the information about Austin and confirmed that she wasn’t a bad person. Otherwise, the arrogant demon Tarokmat would have intervened the moment she extended her hand. Thinking of this, the system glanced at Tarokmat, only to see the arrogant demon floating in mid-air with crossed arms and closed eyes, an expression of arrogance as if looking down on others through his nostrils. It truly made the system feel the urge to give him a beating.
……………………..
A wonderful day begins with the bizarre secrets in the confessional!
Ifia sat in her designated seat, thoroughly enjoying today’s session. However, when the penitent became overly emotional and tightly gripped the priest’s hands, Ifia quickly stood up, wielding a small stick to tap the person’s fingers.
“Father, I’m not at fault. I was forced! Ah, that hurts…”
Once the person let go, Ifia put down the small stick and returned to her seat. As an assistant, that’s about all she did.
However, working in the church for just two days, she already felt stifled. She wondered what those people who were eager to work in the church were thinking. Fortunately, the internship was easy, allowing her to slack off during work and enjoy meals after work, without any other obligations.
Compared to the ease in the confessional room, the interns working in the main hall and the back hall had a tough time these two days. Arlan had mentioned that the clergy intentionally troubled them, increasing their workload.
This noon in the dormitory was particularly frustrating, with complaints about the workload in the back hall being too much to handle. Ifia would now prefer to do the easy reception work in the front hall…
Ifia silently rejoiced, grateful that she drew lots; otherwise, she wouldn’t even be able to think about slacking off now. After thinking and pondering various ways to pass the time until the end of the shift, Ifia instantly resurrected in her original spot.
Rice eaters, rice soul, eating is superior!
After the priest finished tidying up and left first, Ifia walked away with cheerful steps to find her fellow interns. However, after waiting for a while, she only found Lucy.
Where did Jessica go?
Ifia and Lucy looked at each other, and after waiting for a few more minutes, they couldn’t help but ask other clergy if they had seen where Jessica went. Although the clergy’s attitude towards them, the interns, was not good, they were not intentionally hostile. One priest thought for a moment and then said, “Earlier, a panicking intern came looking for someone. I don’t know what she said to Jessica, but it made Jessica angrily leave.”
“It seems like she went to the back hall.”
Having learned Jessica’s whereabouts, Ifia and Lucy thanked the priest and hurriedly ran to the back hall.
“Ifia, what do you think Jessica is doing in the back hall?”
“I guess it’s not something good, Lucy. Get ready for a fight!”
On the way to the back hall, Lucy asked with confusion, causing Ifia to shrug helplessly. Her bad premonition had been relentlessly warning her, and the scenes she witnessed afterward proved Ifia’s premonition right.
“Sister Nornada, the workload in the back hall is too much now. You can’t continue to oppress us, especially using words to bully my friend. It’s unethical!”
As soon as they entered the back hall gate, they immediately heard Jessica’s voice.
Listening to it made Ifia impatient, nearly wanting to stomp her feet.
“Intern, how dare you talk to me like that.”
Ifia looked up and saw Nornada, who had a gloomy face and had previously had a dispute with Archbishop Mirabeau in the chapel. Jessica frowned, pursed her lips, stood with her hands on her hips in front, blocking Arlan, who had a pale face behind her.
The confrontational posture indicated that things were beyond amicable resolution.
However, before Ifia could think about how to handle the situation, the next moment she heard a reminder from the system.
[Host, the person who stole things in the back hall last night is Nornada!]
